1 The Wesley Connector A casual midsummer musing for you this week. Enjoy. I came across two quotes while on vacation the past 2 weeks. AUGUST 2, 2018 I can see how it might be possible for a man to look down upon the earth and be an atheist, but I cannot conceive how a man could look up into the heavens and say there is no God. - Abraham Lincoln The quote above was new to me. It came from a book about astronomy. On its face, I think for Lincoln s part, I can see what he Sharing the sunrise with Melissa. means. How many people live uninspired lives in lands all too familiar to them- they miss the glory of it all until they look up to the heavens. Okay, I get it. Then I went to the Grand Canyon and saw this quote on a building overlooking the South Rim: O Lord, How manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: the Earth is full of thy riches. - Psalm 104:24 Considering the two quotes together, I naturally tended to ascribe more to the Psalmist, God s glory is on display on the earth as well as in the heavens all God s works- earth and heaven- are full of Thy riches. I pondered how Lincoln could even entertain space for atheism in the grandeur of creation, then I chuckled and said out loud to myself, Well, but Abe Lincoln never visited the Grand Canyon. I am sure, had he seen the Grand Canyon, even one starring down at the earth would not be excused for missing God s presence. Blessings! 3 JOY Group Around the World Eats Our Around the World Eats dining series started out with a full bus of 25 to Jeng Chi for a delicious lunch. From Juicy Dumplings and handmade Egg Rolls to Mongolian Beef and the Taiwanese Snow Ice, every bite and flavor was out of this world. As we continue on our journey around the world, you are invited to come and experience the taste of Africa. Our chosen destination is the Queen of Sheba Restaurant in Addison. Tuesday, August 28th. 7 Children s Ministry Ten children and I attended a week of jam packed fun at Bridgeport Camp. We swam, played games, sang praise songs, made many treks up the hill and down the hill, enjoyed archery, fishing and making crafts. Luau night was a big hit and laughs were abundant as we were entertained by the campers on talent night. The giant water slides were welcomed with big smiles.remember it was HOT!! and the shaving cream blessing is always well received. The highlight of each day was worshipping at the cross as the sun was setting with 260 children. We were overcome with the presence of the Lord!

8 What has? 102 energetic children, 61 volunteers modeling God s love, and 455 pounds of food collected for the FISH pantry? A week of Rolling River Rampage VBS!! From high energy games, to bible story themed snacks, from hand- made crafts to move with the groove music, our week at Rolling River was about creating an atmosphere of love and respect for the children who came to have fun with us and sharing with them the stories of faith. Thank you to everyone who joined our Rolling River Rampage adventure and made it a wonderful ride!
