1 JANUARY 11, 2018 THE WESLEY CONNECTOR keeping you linked in The Yost Post You must use your hands while praying if an answer you would get; for prayer worn knees and a rusty hoe never raise a big crop - Popular Proverb Prayer is a critical part of our discipleship growth. There are many prayer practices one may use or try. Reading a prayer written centuries ago can express deep human issues shared over many generations. Prayers at the bedside of a sick friend or loved one can help address an immediate need. Prayers of gratitude for a new day or a day well lived give perspective. At stoplights I often take a moment to bless people around me waiting may we all have patience. Prayer is a tangible and real action. I want to take a moment to remember that prayer may not be the only action we are called to take. Prayer is normally the first act of taking action. What if God wants to deploy you as part of the answer to prayer? The struggle I hear most often, how do I know what to do? 1) I recommend you pray regularly if you learn Jesus voice you are more likely to hear when he calls. Rarely is it like a voice per se, but the divine nudge is very noticeable. 2) When you are praying, ask: Lord, if there is a way I may be of service to help whoever here I am, send me. 3) Consider the gifts and graces of people around you, perhaps one of them needs to be introduced to a person in need- perhaps your role is to get the right people in the same room. 4) From the moment you start praying for someone or a situation, be on the lookout for opportunities to act in a Christ-like manner to serve. 5) Be patient, no need to force a situation, but be willing to act. Finally don t forget the apostle Paul s call to pray without ceasing. No matter what you are doing, do it with an open heart toward God s moving among you. Some of the best witnesses I have heard describe how in the most unlikely of places (Lowes store, a Casino roof, a warship) God has used someone to make a powerful impact in the life of a person who had just prayed, God, if you are up there, I could use some help. And guess what, a disciple was there to be the answer to prayer. Blessings to you all, and may you be a blessing to others,

5 Youth Connections #itsamysteryatwesley Wesley Youth Mystery Trip. Where are we going? What are we doing? Whats next? An adventure filled with mystery fun, forever friends and solid faith. We had such a great time. This year, we stayed local and explored the Dallas area. Stops included the Bush Library, Ripleys Believe It or Not, and many other places. Our nights were spent at C2K. So grateful to the wonderful people there. We closed out 2017 and rang in 2018 at Reunion Tower and watched the fireworks. I really enjoy the Wesley Mystery Trip. The trip itself is focused on fun but with the unknown agenda/ destination, the kids tend to stick together and grow closer to each other and strengthen their faith. Its great watching the bible verse I planned the trip around come to life. It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed. (Deuteronomy 31:8) Thank you to the George & Cheri Kroncke and Leslie Cullen for extra supervision and helping with everything. I can t wait until the next mystery trip! Up next for us is the Polar Bear Camp Out. Friday, January 12th. If you re up for a mid-winter night outside, join us. Bring a blanket, the forecast looks a bit cooooold. Following our camp out is FEED THE DREAM. We will feed all participants of the Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. parade in downtown Greenville on Saturday morning. Parade starts at 10am. Come on out! 2018 is going to be a great year! I love our Wesley family and honored to be on our faith journey together. Youth Conne c tions! y Yumm Dallas Zoo Happy New Year!
