1 THE October 2015 MESSENGER "All good gifts come from above..." James 1:17 There is so much good that we take for granted. A rainfall that greens the earth, the warm sun that follows, and the glorious abundance of beauty and food to eat that emerges from that weather, are often wonders that bless without our appreciation. It can be so easy to see what is wrong, before we rejoice over all that is right. Modern news casting often prefers to report events in the world with a dreadful eye toward what "might" happen, or poll results grounded in the slip and slide of people's opinions rather than the facts or possibilities of a challenge. Our faith in the God who reveals God's self in Jesus Christ roots us in an entirely different confidence and perspective. Good, the good that brings life even in hardship, is sourced in God's love for us, and is unperturbed by the changes in weather, undaunted by the storm. This year's stewardship emphasis asks us to remember, with the Epistle of James, that all Good, the good we enjoy and the good we long for, is safely anchored in God's steadfast love for us. We are invited to lift our eyes and our hearts to that hope, and not to be overly impressed or anxious about other interpretations of our lives. All good gifts come from God. Let us release our worry and practice gratitude. Let us live as people confident and courageous in a world and a time that has forgotten. When we get the chance, let's dance. Much joy, Suzan Plan to be here: Commitment Sunday November 15th 10AM Worship Brunch Reception to Follow Bring your gifts of Time, Talent & Treasure to dedicate to Courageous Giving 2016

2 Page 2, THE MESSENGER, October 2015 MANY AND SPECIAL THANKS Every month there are folks who lend their resource and strength to Christ s mission here at FPCD. This month we give thanks for: Jack Miller who gifted the church with a framed page of secred music, circa 1520 AD. You can admire it outside Pastor Suzan s Office. Michael and Lisa Cummings, who made and hung new banner hangers for the church s worship banners. You can admire them outside the Undercroft kitchen. Ben White, who designed and had installed an enclosure for the unsightly utility box near our West entry. Bill Crowle, who contributed a teak bench in honor of his father. You can sit on it in the John Calvin Hall entry.

We cleaned out our closets and donated good quality, used items to Re-Do, a resale shop with proceeds going to support homeless young people in the Lakeview community. During the month of October, check out your closet again..it s a great time to reassess your wardrobe as we go into the fall season! Please donate your good quality clothing, shoes, and accessories such as jewelry, belts and purses. They also are in need of plastic hangers. Please place your donations for Re-Do in the west hall PW mission closet. Thank you so much for your support. Barb Enns and Lyn Ashley Circle Study Start Ups! Choral Mentor Program For nearly two years our chancel choir has led with the benefit of auditioned, paid, young people who want the opportunity to sing in our church choir. This program, started as as support, has become a developing mentor opportunity. Funds for this program have been afforded first by the Joan Daniels and Marj White bequests and then by gifts of individual members. The music committee and Worship Council are at work to finalize this program as a music ministry and Session has granted permission for the raising of funds to underwrite its continuation. Please keep the project in prayer and watch for opportunity to give.
