Perhaps you are staying at a nice hotel with people you love, enjoying your favorite activities, and savoring some muchneeded rest. Now, notice something: while you are resting, others are working. They are cleaning rooms, making beds, preparing your food, serving your drinks. Someone else s work enables you to rest. So it is with God. Today your gracious Father invites you to enter into His rest, His Sabbath, through the saving work of Jesus. He has already done the work savor it! Rest in His presence as He serves you with His living and active Word and as He prepares His Table of grace for you to enjoy. People: When the righteous cry for help, the LORD hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. LIFE IS SHORT Many things affect the quality of our life. For some people, depression can make living very painful. Why feel awful when there is help available? Check out the local resources from Havana Medical associates October 28 at 6:00pm. Connie Strand, retired counselor, will give the program on Depression/Suicide Preventions. She will also introduce Robert T. Chaplin and Joanne Marshall who are local resources for mental health. Jan Hackman CARD AND BAKE SALE Saturday evening October 27th and Sunday October 28th the Ladies Aid will be selling Thanksgiving and Christmas cards and napkins. We will also have a bake sale. The Ladies Aid will not be having their soup supper this year, but we want to give the congregation the opportunity to purchase your Thanksgiving and Christmas cards and napkins. Chili Oyster Soup Supper: St. Paul s Lutheran Church, NCR3300E, Manito, IL, will hold their annual Chili/Oyster Soup Supper, Wednesday, November 14 th from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Menu will include: Chili, Oyster Stew, Hot Dogs, Chicken Salad Sandwiches, Cakes and Pies, and drinks. There will also be a bazaar and bake sale. The proceeds from the soup supper will be donated to Good Shepherd Lutheran School, Pekin. Zion Lutheran Church, Chestnut would like to invite you to join in food and fellowship as we celebrate Germanfest on November 11, 2018 from 12:00pm- 1:30pm. The meal is $5.00 (children 5 and under free) and consists of your choice of bratwurst or hotdog, German potato salad or chips, Sprecher Rootbeer, and a homemade dessert. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door, or at the Bank of Chestnut. PARENTS: we have KIDS Packs in the Parish Hall to help assist the children with setting thru service.

5 CILCA Run 5K October 27, 10:00am $30 per runner/walker. Children under 12 run for free! Race day registration will be available / camp@cilca.org / 4124 Camp Cilca Rd, Cantrall, IL Friends, Join counselors, campers, parents, alumni, volunteers, and supporters at the 3 rd annual Homecoming. **Trails, creek beds, mud, steep hills, sand, stairs, and scenic views. You will get wet! An alternate route will be available for anyone who does not wish to climb through the creek bed. (Each race participant will receive a Camp CILCA backpack. Wooden medallions will be given to the top three finishers in each age category, and to the top male and female finishers will receive a CILCA hoodie.) LYF Fall Cookout is on Sunday, Oct. 21 from 3-5pm at Mike & Raeann Emme s house. For more information, check the LYF Facebook page or call Raeann Emme. Trinity, Manito will host its Chili/Oyster Supper Wed. Nov. 7th from 4:30-6:30pm. Everyone is invited to attend. The Adult Choir The adult choir is rehearsing again on Wednesday s, at 7:15P.M. The choir is open to anyone who likes to sing. You don t have to be a soloist to join. A choir is a blend of many different types of voices. We have lots of fun! 6 FIRST READING Ecclesiastes 5: He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves wealth with his income; this also is vanity. 11When goods increase, they increase who eat them, and what advantage has their owner but to see them with his eyes? 12Sweet is the sleep of a laborer, whether he eats little or much, but the full stomach of the rich will not let him sleep. 13There is a grievous evil that I have seen under the sun: riches were kept by their owner to his hurt, 14and those riches were lost in a bad venture. And he is father of a son, but he has nothing in his hand. 15As he came from his mother s womb he shall go again, naked as he came, and shall take nothing for his toil that he may carry away in his hand. 16This also is a grievous evil: just as he came, so shall he go, and what gain is there to him who toils for the wind? 17Moreover, all his days he eats in darkness in much vexation and sickness and anger. 18Behold, what I have seen to be good and fitting is to eat and drink and find enjoyment in all the toil with which one toils under the sun the few days of his life that God has given him, for this is his lot. 19Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil this is the gift of God. 20For he will not much remember the days of his life because God keeps him occupied with joy in his heart.
