Luke 4:4 (ESV) All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:- (ESV) The Word of God is a precious treasure that strengthens our faith and gives to us wisdom and understanding. Our congregation has several opportunities to join together in the study of God s Word. It is truly a joy to be fed and molded by the words of the Lord. Starting in May we will begin a new Bible Study topic on Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings. Our Bible study will be the History of the Christian Church. We will take a look at all the major periods in church history from Biblical times to the modern church. We will be studying the major events in church history and examine them based upon what God s Word says to us. We will also apply what we learn to the life of the church right now. Here are some of the things that we will be looking at. What is the Apocrypha and why isn t it a part of the Bible? Who wrote the Nicene Creed? Why did the Crusades happen? Why are there so many denominations? I encourage you to join us for this Bible Study. In our Wednesday morning Bible class we will be continuing our study of 1 Samuel. It has been a fascinating study of the period in Israel s history known as the united monarchy. During the month of May we will be looking at the life of King David. Please join us if you are able. God s Word is indeed a precious treasure. I encourage you to join a Bible study this fall as we grow together as a congregation by God s grace through Jesus Christ. God s blessings. 4 April Church Council Minutes St Paul s Lutheran Church Monday, April 13, 1 Meeting was called to order: Chairman Kraig Krause at 7:00 p.m. Opening Prayer: Pastor Wendorf Members present: Chairman: Kraig Krause, Vice-chairman: Mike Emme, Treasurer: Bill Knake, Board of Elders Chairman: Mick Roos, and Finance Committee Chairman: Steve Morgan, Trustees: Todd Mendenhall, Richard Fliege, Foundation: Worth Smith, Pastor Wendorf, Secretary: Jim Brown Secretary s Report: March 1 minutes will be brought to the May meeting for approval. Treasurer s Report (Bill Knake): He reviewed the list of investments, balance sheet, and profit and loss budget performance for the month of March. Income: 26,626, Expenses : 21,1.61, and Net Ordinary Income: 034.6, Annual Budget: (372.00). He also reviewed the general checking transaction details for March. Motion: Mike E. moved to accept the treasurer s report, seconded by Mick R., motion was carried. Board and Committee Reports Finance Committee Report (Steve Morgan): He reported that deposits for March totaled 77,697.32, compared to 71, for. This is an increase of 9.2%. Board of Trustees Report (Richard Fliege): Elevator: Switch has been repaired. Pending inspection and state approval. Heat Pump: Recommendation was made to accept the bid of for immediate replacement of the upstairs heat pump. Motion accepted-mike Emme/Mick Roos. Sign: In committee Annex Garage Siding: Recommendation was made to accept the plan for replacement of the siding on the annex garage. The church will provide materials and Rick Trimpe will be paid labor expenses. Motion accepted-mike Emme/Steve Morgan. Doors: Basement and handicap doors need to be replaced for fall 1. Trustees are exploring options of purchasing the doors from Alexander Lumber, Lincoln and installation vs contractor purchase and installation. Recommendations to follow. Parsonage Door: replaced Parsonage Irrigation System: A leak in the irrigation system will need to be repaired. Trustees will plan for this repair. Roos Treasurer s Report was presented by Bill Knake. First quarter income /Expenses /Net Income Year to date budget: Motion: Approved-W. Smith/M. Emme. Board and Committee Reports Finance Committee Report was given by Bill Knake. Deposit total for the quarter is , compared to in, for the same period. Variance of Board of Trustees Report was presented by Chairman Richard Fliege. We are waiting for state inspection of the elevator. The sign committee needs to be called together to begin development of a plan and design. The parsonage irrigation system will need to be repaired. Plans are being made for this activity. Bell Tower: no update The church roof needs to be inspected by Kreiling Roofing as the shingles are getting loose. Annex Garage: plans have been made to place siding on the garage. Parsonage needs a water softener. Stain glass windows need repair and some outside doors need replaced. A/C: The heat pump in the upstairs area will be replaced. 7 Show Your Love of Christ With Gifts from the Heart 3 members of our congregation on will be going to the National Lutheran Women s Missionary League Convention in Des Moines, Iowa June 2 to 28 th. There will be an ingathering of Gifts from the Heart. The Ladies Aid has decided to collect items for Hygiene Kits for Orphan Grain Train. Orphan Grain Train is a Christian volunteer network that shares personal and material resources with needy people in America and around the world. Grain Train volunteers gather donations of clothing, medical supplies, food, Christian literature and other aid to meet real needs. The Orphan Grain Train movement is a loving response to Jesus Christ s example as a servant and His love for us. Hygiene Kits are given to the needy and orphans in foreign countries and victims of disasters such as the flooding in North Dakota and Nebraska, hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, and the typhoons in India and the Philippians. We are encouraging the members of the congregation to bring the following new unused items on the following weekends: April 2 & 26: 1 dark colored wash cloth May 2 & 3: 1 bath-size bar of soap May 9 & 10: 1 adult-size toothbrush May & : 1 study comb May 23 & 24: 6 Band-Aids (1/2 or ¾ ) secured together May & : 1 dark colored bath towel June 6 & 7: 1 stick deodorant either men s or women s There will be boxes in fellowship hall to put the items in. 8 The meeting of the St. Paul's Ladie's Aid was called to order at 9a.m.Saturday, April 11, 1 by president Deloris Blessman.. 11 members nd Pastor Wendorf were present. The Common Table Prayer was given before the delicious breakfast of fruit, sweet rolls, bagels, coffee and water, Opening devotion based on I John 1:7, was given by Pastor Wendorf. The educational given by Donna Stelter and was about the Mite Box Story. The LWML Pledge was given followed by all singing 'Lutheran Women One and All' accompanied by Marilyn on the piano, A Mite Box collection was done.. Donna gave a report on information from Alice Meeker on LWML Lincoln Zone.. The Mite goal has been increased to $8,000 'The Fall Rally will be held at Christ Lutheran in Delavan on Sept. The delegates will be Glenda Specketer and Shirley DeMotte. We are to meet here at the church at 6: am.
