2 Collect Bountiful God, giver of all gifts, who poured your Spirit upon your servant Barnabas and gave him grace to encourage others: help us, by his example, to be generous in our judgements and unselfish in our service; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen Reading 1 Isaiah 40:12-17, 27-end A reading from the book of Isaiah Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand and marked off the heavens with a span, enclosed the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance? Who has directed the spirit of the Lord, or as his counsellor has instructed him? Whom did he consult for his enlightenment, and who taught him the path of justice? Who taught him knowledge, and showed him the way of understanding? Even the nations are like a drop from a bucket, and are accounted as dust on the scales; see, he takes up the isles like fine dust. Lebanon would not provide fuel enough, nor are its animals enough for a burnt-offering. All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing and emptiness. 2

3 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hidden from the Lord, and my right is disregarded by my God? Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and strengthens the powerless. Even youths will faint and be weary, and the young will fall exhausted; but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. 4 Gospel John 15:12-17 Hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to John. Glory to you, O Lord This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one s life for one s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you. I do not call you servants any longer, because the servant does not know what the master is doing; but I have called you friends, because I have made known to you everything that I have heard from my Father. You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another. This is the Gospel of the Lord Praise to you O Christ Post-Communion Prayer Holy God, faithful and unchanging: enlarge our minds with the knowledge of your truth, and draw us more deeply into the mystery of your love, that we may truly worship you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. 5 The Commissioning of the Parochial Church Council Members of the PCC come forward.. Vicar: The Parochial Church Council comprises elected members of the congregation who serve the community of this parish. Together with the churchwardens they are responsible for the management of many of the parochial affairs and work in close co-operation with the Vicar in respect of the mission and outreach of the Church. PCC members are required to attend meetings of the Council, as well as being expected to take a leading role in the life of St Barnabas and, by their example, be a source of encouragement to others. And so I ask those who, this year, have been newly elected to serve and all those who are continuing in this ministry: Do you commit yourselves to this work and responsibility? We will Will you take time to reflect and pray for the mission and work of this parish and for me as its Vicar? 6 Notices Next week s readings The readings for 8am and 10am are Genesis 18:1-15, Romans 5:1-8 and Matthew 9:35-10:8 Beer & Hymns is back! Saturday July 1st. The Beeston bunch are heading down this way again to help lead us in a great evening. Tickets are now on sale from Claire adults, 5 children. Churchyard working party dates are: Saturdays 15th July, 2nd September and 14th October all from 9am in the Churchyard. Please bring your own garden tools and gloves; a list of jobs to be done and refreshments will be provided! Come and join us to keep our Churchyard looking tidy and welcoming. Jill Phipps Claire's anniversary of ordination We hope that lots of people will be able to join us for a BBQ lunch after church on Sunday July 2 nd. Please sign the list at the back of church to give us an idea of numbers and also indicate if you are able to bring a main course accompaniment or a pudding. Thank you! Jill Phipps Gwen Wood s Funeral will be held in St Barnabas at 11.30am on Tuesday 20th June, followed by light refreshments in the Paterson Centre. All are welcome. Café Church on 18th June If anyone is able to help with the catering/setting up, please see Jill or Claire ASAP. Pause to Pray! Remember to Pause to Pray every Tuesday between 10am and 11am. It is not another prayer meeting but instead is an invitation to you to pray at some point in that hour wherever you are. 6

7 Meon Valley Food Bank thank you for all your kind donations. The items needed for the coming week are tinned meat meals, part baked bread, packet noodle/pasta meals and toilet rolls. With love from the Meon Valley Food Bank Team. Marian and Martin Read thank all their friends at St Barnabas for their prayers and concern for our grandson Balint since his diagnosis with leukaemia. He is doing very well and hasn't had to spend a night in hospital since early April. Treatment continues until Spring 2020, but he is full of energy and looking forward to starting school in September. He doesn't know just how many people have been thinking of him and praying for him, but we do, and are profoundly grateful. Coffee Morning and Bring And Buy on Saturday 17th June in the Paterson Centre to raise funds for Southampton and Winchester Visitors Group - the charity supporting asylum seekers and refugees in Southampton. Donations for the Bring and Buy table, cakes and plants would be warmly welcomed. If you can donate a raffle prize please contact me in advance. There will be a display of information about asylum and the work of the charity. I do hope lots of people will come along and enjoy the morning. Linda Huggett
