SECOND READING: PHILIPPIANS 4:12-14, In simple, direct words, Paul thanks the Philippians for alleviating his hardships. He stresses, though, that he is as accustomed to poverty as to abundance and finds all his strength in Christ. GOSPEL: MATTHEW 22:1-14 Once more speaking to the chief priests and the elders, Jesus relates the parable of the wedding banquet. A King, preparing a wedding banquet for his son, summons all the invited guests. When, after several invitations, no guests arrive, the King commands his servants to go out into the byroads and invite anyone you come upon. Again, Jesus warns the elders, the invited are many, the elect are few. CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS B A P T I S M : The sacrament joyfully celebrates the entrance of members into our Catholic community. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. CONFIRMATION: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. MATRIMONY: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. RITE OF CHRISTIAN IN ITIATION FOR A DULTS: For those who are interested in finding out more information about the Catholic faith and/or interested in becoming Catholic. Please call the parish office. A NOINTING OF THE SICK: Our parish continues Christ s ministry of making whole the members of our community who suffer physical or emotional ills with Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office if you would like to receive this sacrament.

3 3 October 15, 2017 TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME THE POPE S PRAYER INTENTIONS The Holy Father asks for our prayers for a specific intention each month. You are invited to answer the Holy Father's request and to join with many people worldwide in praying for these intentions. OCTOBER INTENTION Workers and the Unemployed That all workers may receive respect and protection of their rights, and that the unemployed may receive the opportunity to contribute to the common good. HAM AND TURKEY DINNER St. Mary s Church in Barnesville cordially invites all to join in their 88th annual Ham and Turkey Dinner on Saturday, October 28th from noon to 6:30pm. Fullcourse dinners served inside are $16 for adults, children 10 and under are free. Carryout is $16 for all ages. There will be a craft table, baked goods, cake wheel, Christmas shop, hay rides, pumpkins, cider, and more. For more information call Credit Cards accepted. FALL CLOTHING DRIVE The Annual Annunciation Church/Holy Trinity Parish One-Day Clothing Drive will occur on Saturday, October 21st from 8am to 4pm at the Annunciation Gym in the Church's parking lot. This drive provides clean clothing and other gently used or new household items to charitable organizations serving those in need in the DC area. Your efforts to pre-sort clothes by type (i.e., men, women, children or infants) before drop off would be appreciated, if possible. Items Not Accepted: Broken items, stained clothes and linens, and vases, pictures/posters, and decorative items (which are items that are generally not requested by organizations). 5 5 October 15, 2017 TWENTY EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME POPE S CORNER OUR REAL JOURNEY Even if we are sometimes unfaithful to him, he remains faithful. In his mercy, he never tires of stretching out his hand to lift us up, to encourage us to continue our journey, to come back and tell him of our weakness, so that he can grant us his strength. This is the real journey: to walk with the Lord always, even at moments of weakness, even in our sins. Never to prefer a makeshift path of our own. That kills us. Homily, October 13, 2013 Reflection: What journey is the Lord leading you on? Where have you left the path? In his mercy, Jesus stretches his hand toward you. Ask God for the courage and strength to reach out to him. ROTH CONCERT FOR HURRICANE RELIEF Our next Roth concert will be presented in the church on Sunday, October 22nd, at 5:00pm featuring a bevy of performers. All donations will be forwarded to Catholic Relief Services to benefit victims of the recent hurricanes. A reception will follow the concert. If you would like to donate an arrangement, the suggested donation is $50 per arrangement (maximum of four arrangements.) The deadline for dedicating flowers is the Sunday before the desired weekend. Children of all ages are welcome to join. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Our Children's Religious Education Program is in need of team teachers for the First and Fourth grade levels. We operate in teams of three so the commitment is once every three weeks or as your schedule permits. We meet on Wednesday evenings 7pm to 8:15pm. Lesson plans and mentoring is provided.
