Upon hearing them, the entire community immediately agreed they would do as God had told them. Moses then sacrificed young bulls and sprinkled the people with their blood, calling it the blood of the covenant they had made. Christ instead brought a new covenant, which, if kept, would lead to eternal life. GOSPEL: MARK 14:12-16, Jesus sent two of his disciples to prepare the Passover supper. During the meal he blessed bread and offered it to them saying, This is my body. He then offered them wine and called it his blood, the blood of the covenant, to be poured out on behalf of many. CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS B A P T I S M : The sacrament joyfully celebrates the entrance of members into our Catholic community. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. CONFIRMATION: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. MATRIMONY: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. RITE OF CHRISTIAN IN ITIATION FOR A DULTS: For those who are interested in finding out more information about the Catholic faith and/or interested in becoming Catholic. Please call the parish office. A NOINTING OF THE SICK: Our parish continues Christ s ministry of making whole the members of our community who suffer physical or emotional ills with Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office if you would like to receive this sacrament.

YOUNG ADULT MINISTRY FILM If you are interested in creating a more equitable and just society in the U.S., please join our Young Adult Ministry in watching and discussing Cracking the Codes: The System of Racial Inequity, on Monday, June 4th at 7pm in the Parish Office Conference Room. The film uses story, theater and music to illuminate the larger frame of structural and systemic racial inequity. It provides a foundation for understanding the existing system of race in the U.S. and for addressing the barriers to creating communities with equitable and sustainable access to resources for all. Also educated and ordained in Ireland, he spent 15 years preaching and founding monasteries, including Derry, Durrow and Kells. But his clashes with King Diarmaid over a psalter copy and the rights of sanctuary resulted in a clan feud and battle in which 3,000 men died. Choosing exile as his penance, Columba left for Scotland with 12 kinsmen about 561 to found the island monastery of Iona. He evangelized the Picts and converted their king. Iona monks went on mission all over Europe and its monastic rule was the standard until the Rule of St. Benedict. Columba, also called Colmcille (for Columba and cell), had enormous influence over Western monasticism. 5 5 June 3, 2018 THE MOST HOLY BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST POPE S CORNER IN THE BATTLE AGAINST EVIL The main character [in one Gospel story] is a widow whose insistent pleading with a dishonest judge succeeds in obtaining justice from him This image of prayer is striking, but let us ask ourselves: Why does God want this? Doesn t he already know what we need? What does it mean to insist with God? This is a good question that makes us examine an important aspect of the Faith: God invites us to pray insistently not because he is unaware of our needs or because he is not listening to us. On the contrary, he is always listening, and he knows everything about us lovingly. On our daily journey, especially in times of difficulty, in that battle against the evil that is outside and within us, the Lord is not far away, he is by our side. - Angelus, October 20, 2013 Reflection: Are there situations or people that you pray for insistently? Have you been at is so long that you think God will never answer? Reflect on the widow in this story and recollect that God is present to you. Be assured that he hears your prayer and is waitng to respond with mercy. S E C O N D C O L L E C T I O N June 10 Church Utilities P OOR BOX Donations for the month of June will benefit the Northwest Center which seeks to promote the dignity of women and a respect for all human life. This week s bulletin is made possible by our sponsor Children s Faith Formation Want to learn more about your faith? Try teaching! Our children s education and liturgy programs are in need of adults who want to make a difference in our children s faith life. Each grade level has 3 to 4 adults so that the commitment is once a month or so and based on your availability! The Faith Formation program meets on Wednesday evenings 7pm to 8:15pm, September through the beginning of May. All lesson plans are done for you! (and we like to have fun!) Children s Liturgy of the Word Leader Meets on Sundays during the Liturgy of the Word portion of Mass at the 9am Mass. Proclaim the weekly readings to children. We have three groups by age: Ages 5 & under, ages 6 to 8 and ages 9 to 11. All materials and activities provided guaranteed to make you a scripture scholar! Children s Faith Fun Program Leader Meets on Sundays at 9:30am to 10 am. This is a scripture-based learning experience for children ages 5 and under. All materials and activities are supplied. Adult & teen help is provided. Adult Faith Formation Meets on Wednesday nights 7pm to 8pm. We will be running Bishop Robert Barron s series on Catholicism. Discussion Leaders are needed. Materials and preparation are provided. Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers & Altar Servers Serve at the Mass of your choice and availability. Training and preparation provided. Refreshments Coffee and Doughnuts are served Sundays after the 9am and 10:30am Mass. Our Set-up crew arrives around 8:30am and prepares the coffee, beverages and puts doughnuts on trays, etc. and then refreshes after the 9am crowd has left.
