Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. C O N F I R M A T I O N: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. M A T R I M O N Y: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. Peter replied he would rather obey God than men, considering God's power even over death. They are again warned to stop speaking of Jesus, and then freed. SECOND READING: REVELATION 5:11-14 John had a vision of many angels and all the living creatures of the world gathered around a throne. The angels cried out that the slain Lamb was worthy of receiving power, glory and praise. Then every creature on earth called out praise to God and the Lamb, and the elders fell down and worshipped. GOSPEL: JOHN 21:1-19 Jesus appeared to the disciples for the third time since his resurrection while they were fishing. They hadn't caught anything, and then Jesus advised them to cast their net from the other side of the boat. When they did this, they caught a great number of fish. Jesus then asked Peter three times, "Do you love me?" When Peter said he did, Jesus asked him to tend and feed his sheep. STANISLAU S AD Feast April 11th Born in Szczepanow near Kraków on July 26, 1030, he was ordained a priest after being educated in the cathedral schools of Gniezno, then capital of Poland, and at Paris. He was appointed preacher and archdeacon to the bishop of Kraków, where his eloquence and example brought about real conversion in many of his penitents, both clergy and laity. He became bishop of Kraków in During an expedition against the Grand Duchy of Kiev, Stanislaus became involved in the political situation of Poland. Known for his outspokenness, he aimed his attacks at the evils of the peasantry and the king, especially the unjust wars and immoral acts of King Boleslaus II. The king first excused himself, then made a show of penance, then relapsed into his old ways. Stanislaus continued his open opposition in spite of charges of treason and threats of death, finally excommunicating the king. The latter, enraged, ordered soldiers to kill the bishop. When they refused, the king killed him with his own hands. 5 5 April 10, 2016 THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER ANOINTING OF THE SICK On Saturday, April 16th, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick will be celebrated during the 5:30pm liturgy. We will have four priests attending and assisting with the sacrament. Anointing of the Sick is the sacrament that is received by those who are ill or suffering. By the sacred anointing and the prayer of the priest, the whole Church commends those who are sick to Christ. The sick person receives the Holy Spirit s gifts of strength, faith, peace, and courage, and his or her suffering is united with the suffering of Christ for the building up of the Church (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], nos ). Through the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, the Church carries out Jesus mission of compassion and healing for the sick. The one who is ill can also be a minister to others. By uniting their suffering to Christ, those who are sick can be signs of faith and witnesses of Christ s Resurrection to the entire community (Pope John Paul II, Christifideles Laici [The Vocation and the Mission of the Lay Faithful in the Church and in the World], no. 54). The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is both a liturgical and a communal celebration. In the family home, hospital, or church, members of the Body of Christ gather for the sacramental rite led by a priest. The Penitential Rite followed by the Liturgy of the Word and sacramental anointing of the sick can inspire and comfort both those who are ill and their family and friends who are gathered (CCC, nos ). These sacramental celebrations are a source of strength amid pain and weakness, hope amid despair and a joyful encounter for the entire community (Christifideles Laici, no. 54). Easter Sunday was full of activity...thanks to Joe Fiorello and Stanley Lynam for setting up our refreshment hour. It was so wonderful to see how many children participated in our Easter Egg hunt thanks to Hugh and Ruey Dempsey, Art Lohsen, Jane Ferrell, Anita Seigfriedt, Laura Bernardini, Robert Simmons, Mario Yuri and Ron Silvestri. Monsignor Charles Antonicelli St. Augustine, one of the great writers on God s mercy, said: God does not extend his mercy to people, because they know him, but that they may know him, nor because they are upright of heart but so they might become so. Augustine talks about our hearts so we can understand who we are, where we come from, where we re going to, where we meet our God. Human beings are looking for the light to penetrate the darkness of our own mystery, and when we do that, we discover that God is the key to the secret of the human heart and that God has made his dwelling in our hearts.
