GOSPEL: MATTHEW 20:1-16A Jesus tells the parable of the owner of an estate who hires workmen for his vineyard. When, at the end of the day, he pays a full day s wage to those who worked only one hour, those who worked all day complained bitterly. But the owner says, I am free to do as I please, am I not? CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS B A P T I S M : The sacrament joyfully celebrates the entrance of members into our Catholic community. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. CONFIRMATION: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. MATRIMONY: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. RITE OF CHRISTIAN IN ITIATION FOR A DULTS: For those who are interested in finding out more information about the Catholic faith and/or interested in becoming Catholic. Please call the parish office. A NOINTING OF THE SICK: Our parish continues Christ s ministry of making whole the members of our community who suffer physical or emotional ills with Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office if you would like to receive this sacrament.

You are invited to answer the Holy Father's request and to join with many people worldwide in praying for these intentions. Michael is viewed as a guide to heaven, protector of God's chosen people, foe of Satan and guardian of the church. Gabriel, revealer of the Incarnation, announced the births of John the Baptist and Christ. Tradition honors Raphael, an angel of healing, as head of guardian angels, those who hear prayers and bring them to God. 5 5 September 24, 2017 TWENTY FIFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME POPE S CORNER CRAFTERS OF PEACE The world has much need of us as messengers of peace, witnesses of peace! The world needs this. The world asks us to bring peace and to be a sign of peace! Peace is not something which can be bought or sold; peace is a gift to be sought patiently and to be crafted through the actions, great and small, of our everyday lives. The way of peace is strengthened if we realize that we are all of the same stock and members of the one human family; if we never forget that we have the same Father in heaven and that we are all his children, made in his image and likeness. Homily, Pilgrimage to the Holy Land, May 24, 2014 Reflection: How can you be a crafter of peace and mercy? Who are you having differences with right now? PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL The Prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel was composed by Pope Leo XIII in Tradition holds that Pope Leo XIII had an explicit vision of Satan and his minions. After this horrifying apparition, the Pope immediately composed a longer version of the prayer, a spirited plea for the intercession of the archangel whose very name rebukes Satan s grasp at divinity, Who is like God? St. Michael the Archangel. St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Consider making a donation to the 2017 Christmas Bazaar! Drop your items off at the parish office, Tuesday-Friday from 10am-2pm. Many thanks! In addition to our 9:00am Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) program, we now have CLOW at the 10:30am Mass. There will only be one children's liturgy at the 10:30am Mass and primarily geared for children six and under. We could use some volunteers for the entire program training and materials are provided. RCIA (RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION) Know anybody who hasn't completed their sacraments of communion and or confirmation? Do you know anyone interested in learning about our faith or would just like to refresh their knowledge of Catholic teaching? If so then RCIA is the program for them. Our inquiry sessions began September 12 and will meet twice per month primarily on Tuesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:30pm. The schedule is listed on our website under the faith formation tab. If you have a child entering first grade through eighth grade and they do not attend a Catholic school, they should be enrolled in our Religious Education program. We meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00pm to 8:15pm in the school. You may register online through our website's faith formation tab until September 27. Sacramental preparation, which includes the children making first reconciliation, first communion in second grade as well as confirmation in eighth grade requires two years of continuous faith formation. Are you looking for an opportunity to grow in your own faith and extend that gift to others through your personal witness and service to the Church? You are invited to become a Docent (Tour Guide) or Tour Desk Receptionist at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception. Hours and days are flexible and training will be provided. Community service hours are offered to high school juniors and seniors who participate in this program.
