But God tells Nathan the Prophet that instead he will give David rest from his enemies, and ensure that both his house and community will be protected forever. SECOND READING: ROMANS 16:25-27 In this letter of Paul to the Romans, he explains that the gospel reveals the mystery that had been hidden for many ages. Now it has been made known to all, so that they may believe, obey, and give glory through Jesus Christ forever. GOSPEL: LUKE 1:26-38 The Virgin Mary is approached by the angel Gabriel, who tells her that she has been chosen to bear the Son of God. Mary is first afraid, yet shows her unquestioning faith when she simply says, Let it be done to me as you say. CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENTS B A P T I S M : The sacrament joyfully celebrates the entrance of members into our Catholic community. Baptisms are celebrated on Saturday mornings at 9:45am or by appointment, following preparation of the parents. Baptisms for adults take place through the RCIA process. CONFIRMATION: Through the sacrament of confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Confirmation is offered to adults through the RCIA process, and annually for our eighth-grade students. As with the other sacraments of initiation, preparation is involved. MATRIMONY: Couples should contact the parish office as soon as possible or at least six months in advance of the desired wedding date to make arrangements for preparation. RITE OF CHRISTIAN IN ITIATION FOR A DULTS: For those who are interested in finding out more information about the Catholic faith and/or interested in becoming Catholic. Please call the parish office. A NOINTING OF THE SICK: Our parish continues Christ s ministry of making whole the members of our community who suffer physical or emotional ills with Anointing of the Sick. Please call the parish office if you would like to receive this sacrament.

This slaughter is related in the second chapter of Matthew s Gospel, but is not mentioned by other sources, including the Jewish historian Josephus. Estimates of the number killed range from 10 or 12, based on the likely population of Bethlehem at the time of Christ s birth, to 64,000, a fantastic figure cited in the Syrian liturgy. This feast has been celebrated in the West since the fifth century; the Holy Innocents are the patrons of foundlings. 5 5 December 24, 2017 THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT POPE S CORNER JESUS IS GOD-WITH-US The presence of God among men did not take place in a perfect, idyllic world but rather in this real world, which is marked by so many things both good and bad, by division, wickedness, poverty, arrogance, and war. He chose to live in our history as it is, with all the weight of its limitations and of its tragedies. In doing so, he has demonstrated in an unequaled manner his merciful and truly loving disposition toward the human creature. He is God-with-us. Jesus is God-with-us. Do you believe this? General Audience, December 18, 2013 Reflection: Mother Teresa was reportedly inspired by a poem that states, in part: People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered. Forgive them anyway. Christmas is a reminder of God s plan to enter into our brokenness and to be merciful anyway. What part of your brokenness does God need to enter into? He is with you. Don t hide your brokenness from him. ADVENT WREATH A PRAYER FOR LIGHTING ADVENT WREATH CANDLES FO URTH WEEK Father, all-powerful God, your eternal Word took flesh on our earth when the Virgin Mary placed her life at the service of your plan. Lift our minds in watchful hope to hear the voice which announces his glory and open our minds to receive the Spirit who prepares us for his coming. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Knestout, the bishop-designate of the Diocese of Richmond will celebrate a farewell Mass at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 5:15 p.m. There will also be a reception immediately following the Mass. Due to limited seating at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Richmond, Virginia, it is recommended that those that want to wish Bishop Knestout well, attend this farewell Mass, as the installation Mass in Richmond is by invitation only.
