With the theme "Come, Drink of the Holy Spirit," the St. John Bosco Conference for Catechists and Religious Educators (July 18-22) will help provide those answers and equip educators with the tools to help bring the Holy Spirit into others' lives. For more information or to register, call (800) or visit franciscanconferences.com. Our Life of Faith within the Church Readings for Week of Apr 29, 2007 Sunday: Acts 13:14, 43-52/Rv 7:9, 14b-17/Jn 10:27-30 Monday: Acts 11:1-18/Jn 10:1-10 Tuesday: Acts 11:19-26/Jn 10:22-30 Wednesday: Acts 12:24-13:5a/Jn 12:44-50 Thursday: 1 Cor 15:1-8/Jn 14:6-14 Friday: Acts 13:26-33/Jn 14:1-6 Saturday: Acts 13:44-52/Jn 14:7-14 Next Sunday: Acts 14:21-27/Rv 21:1-5a/Jn 13:31-33a, "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish. No one can take them out of my hand. My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all, and no one can take them out of the Father's hand." - Jn 10:28-29 Gospel of Life Some contend that the pro-life issue is less important than the war issue. Fr. Frank V. Pavone, director of Priests for Life, comments: How many innocent lives, and how many children, have been deliberately targeted for destruction in the current war? By comparison, every abortion deliberately targets and destroys a child, otherwise it wouldn t be an abortion Catholic teaching allows more than one position on war, but it does not allow more than one position on abortion. Apostleship of Prayer Please join with the Holy Father in praying for his intentions for the month of May General: That, like the Virgin Mary, all Christians may be guided by the Word of God and remain attentive to the signs of the Lord in their own lives; Mission: That in mission territories there may be good and enlightened teachers in the major seminaries and institutes of consecrated life. Parish Nurse Ministry SNORING zzzz and Sleep Apnea! A few bulletins ago we talked about sleep, and now would like to finalize on this topic with snoring and how it relates to health. Definition: snoring is the sound produced by obstructed breathing during sleep. People who snore have and increased risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. More study is needed to 2

3 determine whether those snorers at risk for more serious problems are people who have actual pauses in breathing while snoring, called sleep apnea. Causes: Snoring results when air cannot move freely through the air passages at the back of the mouth and nose. This causes vibration of the roof of the mouth and uvula (part of the soft palate), which creates the snoring sound. The smaller the airway, the more obstruction, and the louder the snoring. This airway obstruction can be caused by: 1. Decreased muscle tone in the tongue and throat; 2. Enlarged tonsils, adenoids, or other obstructions (tumors or cysts); 3. Excessive tissue around the throat due to obesity; 4. Congested nasal passages from a cold, flu, sinus infection, or allergies. Risk factors: A risk factor is something that increases your chance of getting a disease or condition. In the case of snoring, they are: Gender-male: 1. obesity; 2. age over 50; 3. family history; 4. use of central nervous system drugs or alcohol that acts as a respiratory depressants; 5. lying on back while sleeping; 6. nasal obstructions or injury that has displaced the nasal cartilage or bones. Symptoms: the main symptom of snoring is noisy breathing during sleep. The following symptoms may indicate that Obstructive Sleep Apnea is causing the snoring while sleeping: 1. gasping; 2. sudden awakening; 3. choking; 4. long pauses in breathing. While Awake: 1. sleepiness and fatigue during the day; 2. slowness in mental functioning; 3. morning headache and irritability. Diagnosis: A sleep study in a laboratory to determine how the snoring disrupts sleep. Treatment: In cases of snoring without sleep apnea, lifestyle changes may alleviate symptoms. More severe cases with Sleep Apnea may require surgery or the use of home breathing devices that distribute positive pressures to the airway via a face mask. These symptoms can be reduced through the use of these devices on approval of your physician. As always you may contact our parish nurses by telephone to discuss any health problems and referrals. We are here for you. TOTC Building Committee Update The Building Committee is approaching the end of its work. We have now completed the design of the structure, its exterior, landscaping plan and nearly completed the interior design elements. Much of the information about our new parish church and cathedral building was discussed thoroughly at the parish receptions, and space will not allow me to write a great deal. However, you can visit our parish website to look at some of the plans at triumphofthecross.org. Bishop Conlon hopes to have a groundbreaking ceremony in mid-june with construction beginning as soon after that as possible. Please Pray for Our Priests Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday Msgr. Joseph Nealon Rev. Frank Cronin Rev. Kenneth Cienick SA Rev. Timothy Kozak Rev. Joseph Lehman TOR Rev. Gary Zalenski Bishop R. Daniel Conlon Holy Rosary Parish Prayer Line Please keep the following in your prayers: Frank Harda, Ron Beever, Lib Sweeney, Tim McCoy, Cindy Fatadley, Rita West and Linda Chizers. Personnel Changes: Fr. Wayne Morris As he announced before the Masses last weekend, Fr. Wayne has been assigned as administrator of St. Frances Cabrini Parish in Colerain. His appointment is effective June 1st. He will not be replaced at Holy Rosary. Fr. McGuire s traveling should cease by that date, and he will be able to resume a normal parish schedule. In the Fall many more assignment changes will be made. At that time arrangements for the hospital and high school will be announced. We wish Fr. Wayne well and know he will be a great pastor. Personnel Changes: Attilio Boni Beginning next weekend, Attilio Boni, longtime organist at the 11:30 and 6:00 Masses will come to Holy Rosary full-time. This has been made possible by a generous donation from a parishioner who wishes to remain anonymous. He gave the gift of one year s salary because of his desire to enhance our parish s celebration of the Eucharist. Thank you!!! 3

We decided not to print them anymore as part of our budget-cutting last fall. It was nice to hear that some people actually were reading them. The calendar is, and has been, available at our website: Click on Event Calendar.
