4 St. John the Evangelist Weekly Bulletin Dear Folks, Second Sunday of Lent I am writing to you during the second great snow storm of the season, Son of Snowmageddon. The new wrinkle in the weather is that of rain. And raining it is. The worst of world crises has come to Warrenton. There is a complete loss of the cable system. Both children and adults are left to talk to each other and if that wears thin there is always the dog or cat with their unconditional love. But, perhaps a book, or Bible. Now there is a novel idea. I marvel at the long lines to the confessionals. Many of the munchkins are recent recipients of First Penance. One started with, Bless me father for I have sinned it has been six hours since my last Confession. Others do it by the numbers, This is my seventy-second Confession. But the best is the teen who would only confess in Spanish. I asked him how long he had lived in the United States. He responded, all his life. I asked him if he hadn t learned how to sin in English in all that time Lent isn t always about the Big fish but about all the fish, young and old. God bless the kids and the many parents who are revitalized in the Faith by their example. God bless them one and all. I enclose a prayer from the Liturgy Hours in the First Week of Lent. Lord God, you love mercy and tenderness; you give life and overcome death. Look upon the many wounds of your Church; restore it to health by you risen Son, so That it may sing a new song in your praise. Let us pray for one another. Collegiate Answer: TWO Marian Apparitions in the Islamic World Our Lady of Zeitoun Our Lady of Zeitoun was a mass Marian apparition that occurred in the Zeitoun district of Cairo, Egypt, over a period of 2 3 years beginning on April 2, 1968, in the period after the six day war. It was reportedly witnessed by many thousands of people, including Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser, and captured by newspaper photographers and Egyptian television. According to witnesses, the Virgin Mary appeared in different forms over the Coptic Orthodox Church of Saint Mary at Zeitoun for a period of 2 3 years. The apparitions lasted from a few minutes up to several hours and were sometimes accompanied by dove-shaped luminous bodies. The sick and blind have been cured, and many people converted to Christianity as a result. In a statement dated May 4, 1968, the Patriarchate of Cairo and Kyrillos VI stated that they considered the events at Zeitoun as valid, and that they had received many reports of immediate healings during the reported apparitions. [78][79][80] Our Lady of Assiut The apparitions of Our Lady of Assiut were also mass apparitions in Assiut, Egypt during 2000 and 2001 and many thousands of witnesses produced photographs of them, which were reprinted in several newspapers. [81][82] The reports state that during mass, pictures hung on the wall inside the altar, which show St Mary with a dove above her started to illuminate first, then the light from the dove in the pictures started to flow down. Our emergency financial aid can provide temporary help by contributing to the rent, utility bill or other pressing need. In many cases, however, those we serve would greatly benefit from guidance o how to set a budget, manage income and spending, or eliminate debt. We are seeking a volunteer(s) willing to provide this kind of personal financial counseling on an occasional, case-by-case, basis.
