Please join members of the parish in a Holy Hour from 3:00-4:00pm every Friday, for the Chaplet of Divine Mercy and the Mercy Stations of the Cross during Eucharistic Adoration. The Chaplet of Divine Mercy is also prayed every morning after the 8:30 am Mass, Monday through Thursday during the school year and additionally after the 8:30 am Mass on Friday mornings during the summer months. If you cannot be present to pray with us at the parish at these times, simply join in prayer with us spiritually by briefly thinking of our Lord s Passion & Death every day at 3:00pm and especially on Friday s at 3:00pm by simply praying the words, Jesus I Trust in You. 4 St. John the Evangelist Weekly Bulletin Dear Folks, Twenty-Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time Let us please remember a prayer for the many suffering in the current weather pattern of hurricanes. Two weeks ago the parish took up a collection for those caught in the devastation of Hurricane Harvey. Over $19,000 was collected. Last week our full attention was on the devastation of hurricane Irma that damaged so much of the Caribbean Islands and Florida. A collection for those devastated with the storms will be taken up next weekend. And now, as of this writing Hurricane Maria is about to trounce on Puerto Rico, home to a number of our parishioners. God bless them all. Rain, rain, everywhere. And it may join us for Oktoberfest. Nothing new on that. Does anyone remember the storms we have enduring these past two years when gathering for Oktoberfest. Let us not lose heart. After all, let us think of the many pies and cakes and multiple pastries that will fill the Hall of St. John s School. Last year over seventy five of the famed Maybach pies were gone the first night. Oh man!! And let us join together with the German band with multiple polkas. Oh yes. Come one come all, rain or shine. It should be a great time. Please spread the word of the Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington on October 14 th. We will get a bus for the parish if enough folks sign up for the pilgrimage. I am looking forward to going for the day. Stay close and we will give you a great tour of the shrine honoring the Blessed Mother. We should leave at 7:15am and return to the parish by 5:00pm. Miss CeCi Galvin, parish youth director, popped in yesterday to speak of the upcoming Diocesan Rally for youth that will take place at O Connell High School on October 22 nd. Bishop Burbidge is calling all the teens of the diocese/parish to join him. Please contact the parish offices if you would like to join us. If enough sign up we will order a bus. We will leave at 11:00am and return by 9:00pm. God bless the young ones. Let us all pray for one another. Collegian answer: Myles Keogh was the former Vatican Guard who died with George Custer at the Little Big Horn. His horse, Comanche, was the lone survivor of the battle and would live on until Keogh s was the only body not mutilated by the Sioux Indians. As many of the Indians of Sitting Bull were actually Catholics they may have recognized the two Church medals Keogh wore upon his uniform. 5 St. John the Evangelist Weekly Bulletin 24 September 2017 Greetings, I hope all of our school families enjoyed Back to School Night and our PTO Sponsored Back to School Picnic, it is now safe to say that we have officially launched the school year! Several students have completed the first online testing week in Math, Reading, and Language Arts and we will hopefully finish our Scantron testing by the end of next week. The Fall Book Fair will also be held during the week of September 18-22nd. We set a record last year in terms of sales and we hope to continue that success again this year. We continue to look for a parent to facilitate the Little Flowers Program this year. Ms. Smith was instrumental in getting this program off the ground many years ago and we continue to look for someone who will "take the baton" moving forward. Oktoberfest Schedule: Classes will NOT be held on Sunday, 10/1, and Monday, 10/2. Classes resume the following week. Parents are expected to read the bulletin each week and to check the parish website to stay informed of upcoming events. All students in grades 1-12 who are not attending a Catholic school should be enrolled in RE classes. We offer Kindergarten classes during all 3 sessions. Please check the website for updates on class availability. Many classes are now full. Please check with the Parish Office for class availability and to register. We will be going to the Basilica. All permission forms for this trip must be turned in to the RE Office before Sept. 25th. + Don t forget to turn in your Confirmation Robe Order form which needs to be completed and returned with any outstanding payment to the RE Office by October 1st. Confirmation date: Monday, November 27 th at 7 pm Our Confirmation practice will be held the previous evening: Sunday, 11/26/17, after the evening mass ~ 6:30pm with Sponsor or Parent in attendance as well as the Candidate.
