4 St. John the Evangelist Weekly Bulletin Sunday of Divine Mercy Dear Folks, Today is Divine Mercy Sunday. Let us continue our great devotions to our Lord and His many mercies in our times of need. Trust me, there are plenty of needs. God bless our country in a time of upheaval throughout the Mideast. Protect our Holy Father, Pope Francis, in his upcoming visit to Egypt. Protect our kids in the military and many war zones across the planet. Bless our many parishioners with physical sufferings with healing and understanding. Bless those who take care of them. God bless the many folks who made the closing of Lent such a wonderful experience. Most notably the choir. They are the best. The parish, like a jewel has many facets. Most notably: academic, social, and spiritual. To know the Lord, to love the Lord and serve the Lord in His Church is a call to the young and old alike. God bless those who opened our minds and hearts in the Forty Hours Devotion, the Daily Masses, and gathering for the Stations of the Cross. The RCIA program and Adult Education programs pointed us in greater directions in our understanding the Faith. God bless the Knights of Columbus with their Shrove Tuesday pancake dinner and Friday Fish Fry. Hmmmm! Great. And let us not forget the annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Knights. By the looks of it I think the parents and grandparents were having as much fun as the Munchkins. And let us not forget what the season of Lent is all about reclaiming our identities in innocence. That is, God bless the many that joined us for Confessions especially, the Big Fish. There are many, as above, who set the mood for Lent/Easter such as the choirs, sacristans, readers, Special ministers of Holy Communion, and the servers. In the chaos of the great day for the Resurrection it was the beloved ushers who stood the line. In a day focused on Heaven they were treated to a taste of another H with many frustrated souls caught us in the parking lot debacle and cattle car conditions in the church. In some ways they are like the presidential guard holding us all together with heroic patience. Well done to the one and all in making Easter such a happy, healthy and holy time for all of us. I want to offer my heartfelt thanks for all who have been giving to the Bishop s Lenten Appeal. I have not seen any recent reports from the diocese on our parish results but I do know a good many of you were heroic in your response to the much needed collection: for those you will never see, whose voices you may never hear in this world, may we all look forward to meeting each other at the Gates. Let us pray for one another. I also want to extend the gratitude of the priests of the rectory for the many delicacies offered at Easter Time Cakes, Breads, and Hungarian Goulash made by a Korean Chef. It doesn t get any better. And yes little Virginia, even a bag of Cadbury Easter Eggs. Hmmm. It doesn t get any better. Let us remember a prayer for those who damaged our town cemetery. Some eighty to a hundred graves were affected by the malicious destruction wrought on a place deserving of respect and reverence. The town police chief has asked all the churches to help by offering donations to the restoration of the cemetery. That we will do. If anyone should have any knowledge on the destruction caused please give me a call or catch me in the Box. After all, some of those graves belong to our former parishioners. May the angels watch over our homes. Again, God bless one and all in this season of Easter. Collegiate Question: The early Church had an interest in the men Jesus met on the road to Emmaus. Only one is named, Cleopas. Who was the assumed brother of Cleopas that had a great influence on the Lord? This is one of my favorite. Good hunting. Fr. Gould 4

5 St. John the Evangelist Weekly Bulletin 23 April 2017 Greetings, Last week, our Church celebrated the greatest mystery of our faith: the Passion, Death and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. As a school community, we prayerfully prepared for our journey into the three holiest days of the year, the Triduum. Our Kindergarten students were given the opportunity to strengthen their faith by reenacting the Last Supper. I was told it was quite a sight to see and there were no shortage of young boys wanting to play the active roles. Many thanks to Mrs. Galvin, our teachers, and school families for supporting the Patron Saint of the Poor Program lead by the Saint Vincent de Paul Society. We collected coins in each classroom over several weeks and I am pleased to announce that over $ in coins was collected in total. Mrs. Neil wrote a beautiful card and urged our students to keep their coin pouches and collect on a monthly basis. I will pray that many of our families will accept this challenge. May we continue to grow in God's grace and wisdom. Principal Macdonald St. John the Evangelist Preschool/Pre-Kindergarten: Thank you to all of the families who have registered for the Preschool year. May I be united with your saints in offering you my humble tribute of thanksgiving and praise. I implore you to grant me, through your mercy, the blessing of living and dying in a state of grace. I also ask this same blessing for all those throughout the world who suffer persecution because of their faith in you.
