3 JHS THE THIRD PERSON IN GOD, THE HOLY SPIRIT The Holy Spirit is God, as the Father and the Son are God. He is the Third Person of the Blessed Trinity and He is the Love between the Father and the Son. A perfect love in all the extension of the word. The Church attributes to the Father in Heaven the work of Creation, to the Son, the work of Redemption of the human race and to the Holy Spirit, the work of the sanctification of the souls. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Jesus, being the most pure soul of Jesus the Throne of the Divine Spirit. With what symbols do we refer to the divine Spirit? With the water, with the dove, with the luminous cloud, the tongues of fire, but these are only symbols which, in some way manifest to us the blessings we receive from this divine Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a Spirit Fr. Alberto Cusco Mir, S.J. talked to us about the main devotions in our Institute: to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, to the Holy Spirit and to the Blessed Virgin Mary Our Father Founder, Fr. Alberto Cusco Mir, S.J. taught our first Sisters, to call frequently the divine Spirit, invoking Him and talking to Him during the day and asking Him to help them to live under His inspirations. Father Cusco also remarked the Sisters to pass on to the Sisters who would come afterwards about this important devotion. Being this Holy Spirit the inspiration to do good and the sanctifier of our souls. This is an opportunity for couples who want to marry in the church to do so. The parish will help you with paperwork and preparation needed for the marriage. We will also help prepare the celebration. The mass fees will be taken care of as well as the music and flowers for the wedding mass. A reception will be offered for you and your immediate family in the hall. We will provide a wedding cake for each couple, decorations for the hall, the wedding reception meal and DJ music for the wedding dance. Please call the parish office at if you are interested. 6 OUR LENTEN JOURNEY We are at about the midpoint of our Lenten journey. We hope you find that your hearts are changing, growing and maturing in your faith and love for our Lord. If not, let us keep trying. Let us rededicate ourselves to keeping away from all the negativity in our lives. Let us commit ourselves to attending an extra mass or special Lenten devotion during the week. Let us take the time to be kind, forgiving and loving to our neighbors, friends and relatives. This lent season let us make the effort to change our hearts! PENANCE SERVICES Part of our Lenten journey should include a good confession. There will be a penance service coming up this week at St. Gertrude on Wednesday, March 22 at 7pm. Several priests will be on hand to hear you confession. Our Lady of Good Counsel will have their Penance Service on April 5 at 7pm and St. Martin will make confession available at 5:30pm before the Healing Mass on April 6, If you can t make any of those dates please remember there are confessions every Saturday at 4pm at St. Martin and if needed you may call the parish office at for an appointment with Fr. Naul. A BRIEF EXAMINATION OF CONSCIENCE An examination of conscience is the act of looking prayerfully into our hearts to ask how we have hurt our relationships with God and other people through our thoughts, words, and actions. We reflect on the The Ten Commandments and the teachings of the Church. The questions below help us in our examination of conscience. My Relationship With God What steps am I taking to help me grow closer to God and to others? Do I turn to God often during the day, especially when I am tempted? Do I participate at Mass with attention and devotion on Sundays and holy days? Do I pray often and read the Bible? Do I use God s name and the names of Jesus, Mary, and the saints with love and reverence? My Relationships With Family, Friends, and Neighbors Have I set a bad example through my words or actions? Do I treat others fairly? Do I spread stories that hurt other people? Am I loving of those in my family? Am I respectful of my neighbors, my friends, and those in authority? Do I show respect for my body and for the bodies of others? Do I keep away from forms of entertainment that are not respectful? Have I taken or damaged anything that did not belong to me? Have I cheated, copied homework, or lied? Do I quarrel with others just so I can get my own way? Do I insult others to try to make them think they are less than I am? Do I hold grudges and try to hurt people who I think have hurt me?
