3 Catholic Funeral Rites " At the death of a Christian, whose life of faith was begun in the waters of Baptism and strengthened at the Eucharistic table, the Church intercedes on behalf of the deceased because of its confident belief that death is not the end, nor does it break the bonds forged in life. The Church also ministers to the sorrowing and consoles them in the funeral rites with the comforting Word of God and the Sacrament of the Eucharist. The Ministry of Consolation at Mission San Jose is available to answer any questions you may have, call La Familia Guadalupana is sponsoring a Living Rosary to culminate the month of Mary. Please join us on Wednesday, May 30 at 7:00 pm at the garden of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the parish grounds. Everyone is welcome to attend. 4 Page 4 Heavenly Father, as our nation pauses to remember those in the military who have given their lives for freedoms we enjoy, we pray you would have us all look to you for strength, comfort and guidance. Be with all who serve in our Armed Forces. Bless them and their families. Grant your loving protection. Let peace prevail among all the nations, O God. Especially let your mercy rest upon our land, even as we acknowledge with thanksgiving your past goodness on this country. Preserve the lives of the men and women in uniform as they defend our citizenry. Most of all, we pray that you would turn the hearts of all military and civilian to your holy Word where we will find the true peace. Move us to know, take hold and treasure your saving grace. In the name of Jesus, our Savior and Your beloved Son, who alone gives this peace and hope for eternity, we pray. Amen. GETTING TO KNOW OUR ALTAR SERVERS Our servers at the Spanish mass are brother and sister who serve together. Fatima is about to graduate middle school. She loves to draw, paint and build things. When she grows up she wants to be a veterinarian but for now her puppy Shadow and her kitten Keisha keep her very busy. Enrique is in the 6th grade. He loves math, science and playing video games. He's very curious and loves to learn. What he wants to be when he grows up depends on the day it ranges from archeologist to lawyer. He loves to talk to people, especially about space and history. Their parents are very proud of Enrique and Fatima for their commitment to being altar servers. Since they serve exclusively at the 7:30am spanish mass it means very early morning but they never complain they enjoy their service and always try to be better than the Sunday before. This is their second year as servers San Joselito pray for us! Coffee With The Saints All women of our Parish Community are invited to our next Coffee with the Saints monthly gathering on Sat., June 2nd, from 8:30 10:00 a.m. in the Parish Hall. 5 Page 5 Tabernacle This parish's Tabernacle is located behind the altar in the Retablo, so upon entering the church do we genuflect or bow? One is supposed to genuflect whenever one passes before the Blessed Sacrament reposed within a tabernacle (General Instruction of the Roman Missal 233). One is also supposed to give a bow of the body whenever one passes in front of the altar. If the Blessed Sacrament is in a Tabernacle on or near the altar, one genuflects and does not bow. Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own. Archbishop Appeal 2018 Our goal is $12, we have collected $9, Loving God, As missionary disciples, we are sent to bring the Good News of Jesus to everyone in the Archdiocese of San Antonio. Strengthen our faith, deepen our hope, and help us to respond in love for others through the Archbishop s Appeal ministry. We are very grateful for the many gifts and blessings we have received. May your Holy Spirit inspire us to share a portion of these gifts and blessings with those who need our help through the 2018 Archbishop s Appeal. Fill our hearts with your truth and enduring love so that, united as a community of faith, we may show through our actions that we truly are disciples In the Spirit of Love. Transubstantiation We will celebratethe Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Our Lord next weekend This is a word that our Altar Servers learn in their first year as servers.
