Matthew 24:42 People who have had health issues or near-death experiences generally have a greater appreciation for each day being a gift from God. The rest of us usually take for granted that we will be around tomorrow. But when you start to look at each day as a gift, you realize all the little miracles that happen daily and grow in gratitude for all that we have been given. Please pray for the repose of the soul of: Harold McDonald, father of Kammye Gillette May his soul rest in our Lord s eternal embrace. RCIA This Week and Next This Week s Topic 12/01: Mary and Joseph Next Week s Topic 12/08: The Mass Meetings held at 7:00PM in the Duchesne room of the Parish Center unless otherwise noted. Please plan on attending if you are interested in learning more about these topics. All, not just those in RCIA are welcome! There is an Advent spirit in the heart of every human person. It is one of longing, of yearning for a fulfillment that somehow lies beyond ourselves; for we long for the coming of the Lord. When you make your gift to the St. Vincent de Paul, your heart will discover the true meaning of Christmas as you help those who are suffering and poor to long for the coming of the Lord.

5 DYNAMIC CATHOLIC, ALIVE! THE END OF THE WORLD Be prepared for the coming of Jesus! Think about it Jesus Himself was not sent to reveal the day or the hour known by the Father. Despite the human tendency to pretend to know or even predict the end of the world, nothing could be more certain than that we don t really know and we re not supposed to really know. We are called to live as though the hour is already here, and we re ready. So, be prepared! (CCC 1036, 1040, ) For more, go to THE QUOTE FROM KILLING KENNEDY: If you were here at St. Cletus for Mass on the weekend of November 13, you would remember that I read a quote from Bill O Reilly s and Martin Dugard s Killing Kennedy. I thought the selection from it that I read was so profound I am printing it here for you to clip out and save somewhere for your own ongoing reflection. Just watch out for your own white tour bus when crossing the street: Most people live their lives as if the end were always years away. They measure their days in love, laughter, accomplishment, and loss. There are moments of sunshine and storm. There are schedules, phone calls, careers, anxieties, joys, exotic trips, favorite foods, romance, shame, and hunger. A person can be defined by clothing, the smell of his breath, the way she combs her hair, the shape of his torso, or even the company she keeps. All over the world, children love their parents and yearn for love in return. They revel in the touch of parental hands on their faces. And even on the worst of days, each person has dreams about the future dreams that sometimes come true. Such is life. Yet life can end in less time than it takes to draw one breath. If you missed my homily last weekend, please remember that all of our (Deacons Mark and Frank as well as yours truly) Sunday homilies over the past several years can found on our website: MORE WISDOM FROM THE COMICS IN THE ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH: Please note the comic attached here. How easy it is for any of us to get caught up in the things that really don t matter. Ditto, the young boy in this particular one, says, Nobody ever said on their deathbed, I wish I d had more time for work. Archbishop John L. May, our leader from 1980 to 1992, often used a quote of a very similar tone when he would say to us priests, Cemeteries are filled with priests who thought that they were indispensable. Maybe it would be a good idea for us workaholic types to clip comic out and place in a place of prominence. CONCLUSION OF THE JULIBEE YEAR OF MERCY : Gone but, I hope, not to be forgotten While in France a few weeks ago, one of the things I noticed was the prevalence of this same image which has adorned our Sunday bulletins for this past year. It was in every Church we visited: Notre Dame in Paris, the Basilica at Lourdes, the Basilica of the Little Flower in Lisieux, the Cathedral of Chartres, everywhere. What a powerful reminder that Pope Francis has given us by holding this Year of Mercy. Last weekend we prayed the Prayer for Mercy authored by Pope Francis on a card that contained this image. Please place that card where you will see it daily so you will continue to pray it regularly. The need for mercy in our world is never ending. Again please find below the explanation of this logo and its three eyes: The logo has been designed in such a way so as to express the profound way in which the Good Shepherd touches the flesh of humanity and does so with a love with the power to change one s life. One particular feature worthy of note is that while the Good Shepherd, in his great mercy, takes humanity upon himself, his eyes are merged with those of man. Christ sees with the eyes of Adam, and Adam with the eyes of Christ. Every person discovers in Christ, the new Adam, one s own humanity and the future that lies ahead, contemplating, in his gaze, the love of the Father. The scene is captured within the so called mandorla (the shape of an almond), a figure quite important in early and medieval iconography, for it calls to mind the two natures of Christ, divine and human. The three concentric ovals, with colors progressively lighter as we move outward, suggest the movement of Christ who carries humanity out of the night of sin and death. Conversely, the depth of the darker color suggests the impenetrability of the love of the Father who forgives all.

6 The Legion of Mary is sponsoring a Rosary every Sunday in the Chapel. It will begin at 7:00am and should be concluded in plenty of time for attendance at the 7:30 mass. OUR PARISH S ADVENT PENANCE SERVICE TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13 Please be sure to mark your calendars for our parish s Advent Communal Penance Service which will be here at St. Cletus on Tuesday, December 13, beginning at 7:00 PM. As is our custom, several priests will be available, and, after forty-five minutes of time for the reception of the Sacrament, we will conclude with words and song of gratitude for our having experienced the great gift of God s loving and healing forgiveness. (So please plan to stay!) Young Catholic Musicians Looking for a Flute Player (age junior high or high school) for Christmas Concert Father Bruce Forman is the Director of the Young Catholic Musicians. The YCM Christmas Concert will be held on the evenings of December 28 & 29 at Seven Holy Founders. The music is orchestrated for two flutes. One of our flutes must go out of town with her family the week of the concert. So I am searching for someone to play the second flute part. The music is of medium difficulty. And if your parish has any students or you know of someone (junior high to high school age) who excels on the flute and would be interested, I can them a sample of the music to give them an idea of the difficulty. There will be a s pend of $300 paid. They can contact me by at revycm@charter.net or phone at Thank you for your assistance as I search for a flute player for our concert. WE WILL SHOW THIS MOVIE ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 16, AT 7:00 PM IN OUR PARISH HALL. NO CHARGE! ALL ARE WELCOME!!
