At that time, each of us will be asked to support the work of the Church by contributing to the Archdiocesan Annual Appeal. Please be generous. FULL-TIME EVENT CENTER CUSTODIAN Full-time Event Center position, with possible full time position open for the right person. Event Center Custodians interact with clients renting halls for special events. Job duties will vary and include: event set up and take down, interacting with clients to meet needs during events, cleaning and janitorial tasks. Work load and hours may vary according to scheduled events. (Working hours will be between 6:30 am and 1 am normally). We have 6 halls with capacities from 30 to 1000 people. Join a professional, friendly, family styled staff with service as their goal. Be part of a service oriented team meeting the needs of a great variety of groups and ages. Special Second Collection This Weekend: January 21st and 22nd St. Patrick s Seminary and University Since 1898, St. Patrick s Seminary has been dedicated to the ministry of forming seminarians to be priests for the Archdiocese of San Francisco. Most of the priests you know who have baptized, married and buried your loved ones and who celebrate the Sunday Masses you attend received their education here. We need your help to insure that what began over a century ago continue into the future. We rely on your generosity and that of all the faithful to support the seminarians of the Archdiocese who will one day serve as your priests and shepherds. Your donation will assist seminarians to develop humanly, spiritually and intellectually. It will enable them to become effective pastors who lead parishes, counsel parishioners and proclaim the Gospel in many languages both in the pulpit and in the midst of the many communities in our culturally rich Church. Thank you for your very generous support and prayers. FREE GRIEF SUPPORT SESSION A free Grief Support Session is held at St. Mary s Cathedral on the third Wednesday of each month. The next Session is scheduled for February 15, from 10:30 12:00 in the Msgr. Bowe Room on the west side of the parking lot level of the Cathedral. 9 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time - January 22, 2017 Chinese New Year Mass and Dinner Wedding Anniversary Celebration The Archdiocese of San Francisco will honor wedding anniversaries for those celebrating sacramental marriages reaching a 5-year milestone of 5, 10, or over 40 years in Principal Celebrant: Most Reverend Carlos Sevilla, Bishop Emeritus of Yakima, Washington, and formerly a Bishop of San Francisco Saturday, February 4th, :00a.m. Mass in the Cathedral followed by reception $20 suggested donation per family Saturday, February 4, 2:30 pm Mass; 4:45 pm Dinner St. Mary s Cathedral, 1111 Gough St., San Francisco The Chinese community in the Archdiocese of San Francisco will celebrate Chinese New Year 2017, the Year of the Rooster. All are welcome to take part. The event will include both a New Year Eucharistic celebration and New Year Banquet. Auxiliary Bishop Emeritus Ignatius Wang will preside at Mass at 2:30 pm, with Bishop William J. Justice, Bishop Emeritus of Santa Rosa Daniel F. Walsh, and many priests concelebrating. Mass will be followed at 4:45 pm by a no-host reception and banquet in Patrons Hall, catered by Hong Kong Flower Lounge. Tickets are required for the reception/banquet and are $50 per person. The evening includes dinner, face painting, family photos, and door prizes, and will be held in the Cathedral Event Center, with free parking. Liberación y Reforma Aunque quizá tengas que usar un atlas para determinar que Isaías está hablando de Galilea, la primera lectura de hoy (parte de la cual se leyó en Navidad) profetiza el futuro ministerio de Jesús en esa provincia. La luz que trae la salvación y regocijo es, fundamentalmente, Cristo. El tema es la liberación: liberación de la ignorancia ( tinieblas ) y también del pecado (el yugo ). Mientras Isaías identifica un lugar, así Pablo describe una actitud: la actitud que crece, incluso entre gente buena, de equiparar su propia voluntad con el bien común. Esto siempre origina desacuerdo, y así ha ocurrido en Corinto. Pablo no permitirá esto; todos somos miembros del partido de Cristo. El Evangelio no es para dividirnos. Mateo cita a Isaías en el Evangelio de hoy, y presenta a Jesús como el cumplimiento de las profecías de Isaías. El tema es Conviértanse, porque ya está cerca el Reino de los Cielos (Mateo 4:17). Registration required by January 27th or call (415) World Day of the Sick Saturday, February 11, 11:00 am Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone is principal celebrant at a special Mass at which the Anointing of the Sick will take place. All are invited. The event is sponsored by the Order of Malta, which will arrange rides for people if they need them. The Knights of Malta say: Bring a friend who is sick and experience a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one s suffering for the good of the Church and of reminding everyone to see in his sick brother or sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying, and rising, achieved the salvation of mankind (from Pope John Paul II s 1992 Letter Instituting the World Day of the Sick). This yearʹs theme as declared by Pope Francis in his 2017 letter is Amazement at What God Has Accomplished. For information or assistance, please contact Kenneth Ryan, KM, at , kenmryan@aol.com Liberation and Reform While you might have to reach for an atlas to determine that Isaiah is speaking about Galilee, today s first reading (part of which was read at Christmas) is prophetic of Jesus future ministry in that province. The light that brings salvation and rejoicing is, ultimately, Christ. Liberation is the theme: liberation from both ignorance ( darkness ) and sin (the yoke ). As Isaiah identifies a place, so Paul describes an attitude: the attitude that develops, even among good people, of equating their own will with the common good. This always brings dissension, and so it has done in Corinth. Paul will not allow this; we are all members of Christ s party. The gospel is not to divide us. Matthew quotes from Isaiah in today s Gospel, presenting Jesus as the fulfillment of Isaiah s prophecies. The theme is Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand (Matthew 4:17).
