A reflection on the gift of the Sacrament of Baptism is provided monthly for parents, in the Parish Office. Call the Religious Education Office to register. INITIATION INTO THE CHURCH (RCIA & CIC): RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) and CIC (Christian Initiation of Children) are processes by which un-baptized persons and baptized persons from other faith traditions or with no formal religious education, are brought into the Church. Please contact the Religious Education Office. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION: All children of the parish are expected to receive Religious Education in the parish school or the CCD program. Preparation for First Holy Communion and Confirmation take place in this context. SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE: Arrangements must be made at least six (6) months in advance of the anticipated date by contacting the priest. A date will not be set until a couple has met with the priest. RELIGIOUS VOCATIONS: For information on the priesthood or religious life contact the priest or the Vocation Office of the Diocese of Pittsburgh at SACRAMENT OF ANOINTING OF THE SICK: Every Sunday after the 10:30 am Mass this Sacrament is offered for anyone who is facing an operation or going into the hospital. If you are homebound and need this sacrament, contact the Parish Office. NOCTURNAL ADORATION: There is exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the First Friday of the month (except Jan. & July) from 10 PM until 7AM. HOSPITALIZED PARISHIONERS AND SHUT-INS: Please call the Parish Office if someone in your family is hospitalized or a shutin. If a parishioner is not able to attend Mass, the priest and/or Eucharistic Ministers can take Communion to the home on Sundays. Let this be the pattern for all men when they practice mercy: show mercy to others in the same way, with the same generosity, with the same promptness, as you want others to show mercy to you. St Peter Chrysologus In the coming weeks of Lent Fr Alek and I will be visiting parishioners who are presently on Communion sick call list in each of the parishes. We will carry the Eucharist with us and offer as well the sacraments of anointing of the sick and penance. A negative aspect of the shortage of priests is the affected availability of the anointing of the sick. Please be sure to see one of us after Mass before any planned surgery that you would like to have preceded by the anointing. Otherwise, be sure to contact the Catholic Priests assigned to the local hospitals/nursing homes for the sacrament upon your arrival for care. For those seriously ill in the home, if you have contacted hospice care, contact us also. In some cases, the sacrament of penance will be necessary before the anointing. Please do not wait until the last moments of life when a priest may not be as readily available. Note also the last sacrament is actually the Eucharist given as VIATICUM (food for the journey). If the sick person has lost the ability to swallow or even consciousness, the opportunity for this Sacrament will be lost. Like Moses, the Lord wants us to do more than look at Him or at His Church. The Lord wants us to be engaged with Him. Faith is not a passive endeavor. Faith is an active engagement with God in the community of the Church. It is easy to look at the Church and say, I like this or, I do not like that and then do nothing about it. It takes effort to get involved to be an instrument of Jesus life in the Church. As we continue our Lenten journey may we be renewed not only to see God better, but to embrace most fully his will.
