Reflective Moment Music for Reflection Mark Anderson Lent is a quiet time of reflection, prayer and penitence. As we observe this important time in the Liturgical calendar and prepare for Chri Cross, the Music for Departing will be contemplative in nature. 6 Benediction Mark McKim Music For Departing Mark Anderson CHANGES FOR LENT Lent is intended as a time for serious reflection and spiritual self-examination. In order to encourage and provide opportunities, you will notices some changes this morning. 10:30 a.m. Time for Fellowship 10:45 a.m. Prayer One of the pastors or deacons will come to the pulpit and lead in prayer, that God may be honoured by our worship, that we may truly enter into worship being focused on God, and that we may worship in Spirit and in truth. There will also be prayer for those giving leadership in the worship service. This prayer will be the signal for all of us to begin to settle and enter into quietness. Please note that the doors to the sanctuary will be closed at this time. 10:50-11:00 a.m. Music for and Private Preparation Please us this time to prepare for worship. We will, together be entering the presence of the God in whose presence Moses removed his sandals, before whom Isaiah trembled. It is no small thing to do this! Please be silent, or if you speak, use a very soft, gentle voice. We need this time to pray privately, to read the Scripture lesson listed in the order of service, and to reflect. Over and over again in the Bible we find that God chooses to speak not in the whirlwind of activity and noise, but as a still small voice. We live in a noisy, busy culture, and it s important that we deliberately provide times and spaces for God to speak to us in the stillness. At about 10:55 a.m. reflective, quiet music will begin, to assist in your preparation. The latter part of our worship service will change somewhat as well, in order to provide time and opportunity for quiet reflection and prayer. The organ postlude will be played just before the benediction. Please use this opportunity to reflect on the words of the postlude. 5

8 MISSION COMMISSION AND BORDERLAND OUTREACH Carmichael Outreach needs the following items for babies: Formula, baby food (all varieties), baby bottles and disposable bottle liners, diapers sizes newborn to size 6, baby powder, baby oil and shampoo, sleepers and receiving blankets, baby cereal and pablum. These items may be taken to Carmichael Outreach 1925 Osler Street use back door drop off between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. or you may leave the items in the foyer church and they will be delivered. Any donation you can offer is a blessing to these babies and toddlers. 9 GIVING GOD S WORD IN REGINA The Deacons have approved our partnering with the Gideons to purchase and distribute 200 copies of the New Testament in the period just before Easter. Each testament, in a contemporary English translation, will be accompanied by a bookmark which asks Is There Any Point to My Life? provides contact information about our church and a list of Holy Week events. Teams composed of both Gideon s and First Baptist Church volunteers will be going door to door in our immediate neighbourhood and also in the Crescents on Saturday, March 17 th (or in the event of inclement weather or the need for a second distribution, March 24). This is an approximately 4 hour commitment. Training and a light breakfast will be provided. Here is a schedule: 9:00 a.m. 10:00 a.m. Breakfast (coffee, juice, muffins), and training 10:00 a.m. 12:30 p.m. Teams go out to distribute testaments 12:30 p.m. 1:00 p.m. Return to the church to report! This is definitely a borderlands event to where people live! going outside our four walls We need 6-10 individuals who will commit to this opportunity as distributors. We would also like to have a group of fold who will meet at the church for prayer while the distribution is going on. 10 OVERTURE by Joseph Martin In recent years there has been passionate dialogue concerning the role of music in worship. Music and the arts have always played a crucial position in sacred gatherings and a constructive discussion about their evolving contribution to the life of the church seems essential for thoughtful musicians. It is an exciting and challenging time to be called to minister to the traditional/transitional congregation. Some congregations are keepers and some are seekers. Most thoughtful churches have elements of both. It is clear that both types need each other in order to saturate this world of diversity with the unity of praise. Ironically, it is when different notes come together bonded by the miracle of acoustics that glorious harmony is created. When joined in fellowship by the sincere goal of sharing our faith and exalting in worshipping Jesus, the Giver of song, we can find a new harmony in our diverse ministries. We have many voices, but one Song! Therefore, keepers and seekers, let us covenant to base our creative efforts in integrity and sincerity. Let artistic arrogance cease and allow open minds to lead us in new areas of growth and service. Let the young look back and be grateful. Let the aged look forward with thanksgiving. Let the church look up and listen for God s call to authentic worship. Then let us all look out beyond the walls of our sanctuaries of sound to reach those who have no song and teach them the music of grace. Tune your hearts! Lift your voices! Live alleluia! 9
