2 FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH Welcome in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Bibles (blue cover) and hymnbooks (brown cover) are provided for your use. A nursery is available in the lower hall for infants and toddlers. Washrooms are also located in the lower hall. If you wish to have a cushion or hard of hearing headset, please speak to one of the ushers who will be happy to obtain these items for you. We invite you to complete one of the blue Visitor Cards in the pew rack and place it in the offering plate toward the end of the worship service. This will help us get to know you better! Please silence cell phones and other electronics. Speak softly, move slowly and allow each one present to listen for God s voice. Many people have allergies to fragrances and perfumes, so we try to keep our church a scent-free zone in consideration of the health and wellbeing of others! Thank you! Should you wish to have someone pray with or for you, today s Deaconon-Duty will be pleased to meet with you following the worship service. Please come to the front, west side pew. Perhaps this prayer may help you begin your preparation today: Lord God, whose we are and whom we serve, help us to glorify You this day, in all the thoughts of our hearts, in all the words of our lips, and in all the works of our hands, as becomes those who are Your servants, through Jesus Christ our Lord. 12 LEARNING FOR LIFE FAITH PRACTICES IN THE HOME As we grow, we all develop routine habits, like washing our hands. As families, we also develop traditions like Christmas or a weekly family activity night. Christian families also seek to develop faith traditions that grab our imaginations and hearts as Christmas does for some. In this session, we will listen to one another, discuss different ideas and encourage one another around prayer, bible reading, and discipleship. May 10 th, 9:30-10:30. Work and activities provided for children, though they will also be involved in the discussions. Please let Joel know if you can make it. THE SOUND COMMITTEE IS REQUESTING YOUR HELP! The Sound Committee is testing new speakers in the sanctuary. We would like everyone to help us assess whether they are improving the sound quality of our services. Would you please take a few minutes to give us your evaluation of the sound this week? We will use your information to make adjustments to the placement and output of the speakers to see if we can produce a sound that pleases most people. If we have a better sound, we will proceed to buy and mount speakers that are aesthetically pleasing. 1) Where did you sit? (main floor/balcony - front/middle/back east/west) 2) When did you assess the sound? 3) What was the sound volume? (too loud, too quiet) 4) How was the sound quality? (clear/muddy/muffled/ cold, etc) 5) When was there ringing or feedback? 6) Other Comments - 7) Name and Contact information please 11

14 On April 20 th, Fran Purvis met with members of First Baptist Church to report on the current work of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship on the U of R Campus. She reported that the Saskatchewan staff team are committed to seeing the Kingdom come to our province s universitites, to our country and to the world. Staff members spend many of their days on campus, where they befriend students and invite them to encounter with Jesus through fellowship, Bible studies, and prayer. The Fellowship is also committed to teaching/mentoring Christian students to become Extraordinary Kingdom Leaders. They are encouraged to study scripture, to pray, and to witness for Christ, to live sacrificially and to persevere in Christian witness. As a result of all this, the IVCF community continues to grow: they anticipate 15 student leaders and a community of 75 students for the coming school year. Those of us in attendance were inspired by Fran s ongoing commitment to serving Christ in the student world. Let s continue to support her and her staff partner Kyle MacLean, by our prayers and giving. 13
