1 Hancock Covenant of Welcome We welcome all who seek to know God. We believe that, although we are many members, we are one body in Christ. We have been called as well as challenged by God to respect and reconcile our differences. We recognize and love each individual as a child of God. We welcome, respect, support, and lovingly encourage people of every race, ethnicity, creed, class, gender, sexual orientation, age, and physical and mental ability to join us on our journey of faith. This faith journey indeed calls Hancock Members not to be silent in the face of prejudice, injustice, and exclusion, but to express our faith, in word and deed, for justice and inclusiveness for all humanity. As Paul wrote to the Galatians, In Christ there is no longer Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for all are one. 2 Gathering Together To Praise God MOMENT OF REFLECTION As we gather to worship God today, we are all mindful that this is the last day that Dana Allen Walsh will serve as a Minister among us. All three dimensions of me are powerfully present: the past as memories flood our minds; the present as we are aware of the rich emo ons that fill our hearts; and the future as we are filled with hope for Dana in her new calling and for us as we move into God s new tomorrow. With thanks for seeds of ministry and service planted yesterday, for the abundance of today s growth, and for the rich harvest sure to come, we praise God together. The ones who do the plan ng or watering aren't important, but God is important because he is the one who makes the seed grow. 5 Restructuring for Mission listening session today! The Restructuring for Mission team has proposed a number of recommenda ons for improving how we organize ourselves here at Hancock, including the opera on of commi ees, the launch of new ini a ves, and the engagement of our members in mission. Pick up a copy of the report in church (look on the table outside Paul s office), or click on the link in the weekly e mail. Please tell us what you think! Listening sessions are scheduled in the Pearson Room at 7 pm this evening and next Sunday, June 8, at 11:30 am. Or call or e mail any member of the team. Is Your Pledge Up to Date? Deuteronomy 30:15-20 Nancy Rottman See, I have set before you today life and prosperity, death and adversity. If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today, by loving the Lord your God, walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees, and ordinances, then you shall live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. But if your heart turns away and you do not hear, but are led astray to bow down to other gods and serve them, I declare to you today that you shall perish; you shall not live long in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess. I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and holding fast to him; for that means life to you and length of days, so that you may live in the land that the Lord swore to give to your ancestors, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
