2 From the Desk of.jeff Altig Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time November 18, 2018 I always love this time of year; the seasons are changing dramatically. We dip into darkness and cold weather. It appears all is dying. But, this is simply a prelude to rebirth. It is the rebirth I am anticipating; first Advent, a rebirth of our liturgical calendar, and then Christmas, a celebration of the birth of our Lord. We must go through Winter before we can begin again with the rebirth of Spring. We see this anticipation of rebirth in our readings this week. Yes, our readings speak of the End Times. But we must encounter the End Times before we encounter the second coming. From the Book of Daniel, "Many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake; some shall live forever, others shall be an everlasting horror and disgrace." Rebirth from our slumber. From Hebrews, " But this one offered one sacrifice for sins, and took his seat forever at the right hand of God; now he waits until his enemies are made his footstool. "Rebirth of the Church. From Mark's gospel," And then they will see 'the Son of Man coming in the clouds' with great power and glory, and then he will send out the angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the end of the earth to the end of the sky." Rebirth of the faithful. This is summed up nicely in the Catechism. "When he comes at the end of time to judge the living and the dead, the glorious Christ will reveal the secret disposition of hearts and will render to each man according to his works, and according to his acceptance or refusal of grace." So, as the seasons move toward the dark, I rejoice. All Souls Book of Remembrance November 2018 In Honor of Our Faithful departed, during the Month of November, a Memorial List will be placed in the Church, Chapel, and Our Mission Churches to remember and pray for our departed loved ones. Cards are available a the entrance of the Church or at the Church Office for your convenience. Please fill out the card and bring it to the office during office hours or place it in the collection basket on Sunday! If you have filled out a card in the past, those names will already be listed. You need not fill out another card, however, if you have lost a loved one during the past year, please fill out a card. Thank You! If you have a family member, friend or neighbor who is ill and would like the sacrament of anointing for the sick please call the church. If you have a family member or know of someone who is ill and unable to come to church that wishes to receive Communion, to please call the church office to have them placed on a list. Please remember that modesty, respect and good judgment in your choice of dressing is very important when attending mass or other church services. Dresses, skirts and shorts should be near the knee. Off the shoulder or low cut dresses or blouses, tank tops, muscle shirts and tight fitting clothes are a sign of disrespect to the church.
