By being true - true to God, His word, and the grace and help He gives us so we can turn away from evil and wrong doing. Those who are true to God know that their strength lies not in themselves but in God who supplies everything we need to live as his disciples. The Lord strengthens us with the fruits and gifts of the Holy Spirit - with faith, hope and love, justice, prudence, fortitude and temperance. And we grow in godly character through exercising the gifts and strength which God supplies. Do you want to bear good fruit in your daily life? Allow the Holy Spirit to train you in godliness and the wisdom to distinguish good fruit from bad fruit. (1 Timothy 4:7-8, Hebrews 5:14).

4 A NIGHT TO REMEMBER Nearly 150 guests from Sacred Heart and Saint Gerard attended the Valentine Dinner/Dance organized by the Knights of Columbus. Dave Montgomery, Grand Knight, announced that proceeds from this gathering will be donated to Sacred Heart Church to be used for the ongoing church improvements. Attendees, including Fr. Tom Burke and Fr. Aldrin Nunes, enjoyed a pot roast dinner, cake, and lots of dancing with music provided by Michael Sundae. It was truly a night to remember! The Knights of Columbus would like to thank all those who attended this event.

5 Ministry News Change for a Change Because it is the season of Lent and a time of reflection and sacrifice, it is a good time to think of our less fortunate brothers and sisters in our area. Vanaka (thank you) Kids from Holy Cross School in Wairiki They are holding Flat Stanley, a member of the 2nd grade class at Summerville Catholic School in South Carolina, a traveling cut-out that teaches about geography. Bula from Fij (Hello) The congregation at Naselesele Church waving hello to all of you. They enjoyed the photos of you waving hello to them. They asked us for a new roof, as you can see the walls have separated from the foundation. They needed an entire new church. Mass continues to be held in the old church until the new Church is completed. We have asked the Arch Bishop Peter Loy Chong to tell the faithful not to use the old church. They are not willing to suspend mass. With your help we will finish the church by the summer.

6 Ministry News Mass Schedule March 6, 2019 St. Gerard 9:00am Sacred Heart 7am & 11am 7:00pm Monica s Moms (and Dads and Sisters and Brothers and ) A support group for people hurt by the estrangement of family members You are not alone. Many people are hurting because a child or sibling or parent has rejected them. There are resources and support and most of all, people to share with, to lend you a shoulder. Our next meeting will be on MARCH 12, in the Knight s Hall, at 7 pm. Each month on the second Tuesday of every month. All are welcome, whether you are a hurting parent or sibling or child or cousin or grandparent or any other relation. Sharing can help with the pain. Be still and know that I Am God. Ps.46:10 A place where all our parishioners can come and sit and enjoy some good coffee, donuts, and wonderful fellowship located in the Social Hall. You will find freshly brewed coffee and a huge variety of donuts to satisfy your sweet tooth. A great time to come and meet one another. JOIN US every Friday during Lent FOR OUR EXPANDED LENTEN JOURNEY at Sacred Heart The program begins each Friday in Lent with a Benediction service at 6:45 PM in the Chapel, which will close the normal Friday Adoration period. The Benediction service will be followed by a brief presentation on a Lenten topic. This, in turn, will conclude with a period of guided meditation. The whole program will last one half hour and will be followed by Stations of the Cross in the main Church. The entire evening will last about an hour. We cordially invite everyone to spend some time in reflection, meditation and prayer during this Lenten Season by attending this program. We hope to see you there for all or part of the program. 9 St. Gerard Ministry News Musical to benefit Society of St. Vincent de Paul The Scribe, a dramatic one-man musical depicting the life of Christ as told from a scribe s point of view will be performed by Dr. Paul Pitts, accompanied on the piano by his wife Annette, Sunday, April 7, at 4:00 pm at St. Gerard Church. Since Dr. Pitts last performed The Scribe at St. Gerard s he has added five new scenes depicting miracles performed by Jesus to his original repertoire. Tickets cost $10 per person and can be purchased in advance after all masses at Sacred Heart and St. Gerard s each Saturday and Sunday in March and on Saturday, April 6. Tickets may also be purchased at the Sacred Heart Parish office during office hours Monday through Friday from March 4 through April 5. They will be available at the door on the day of the event as well. Proceeds will benefit our neighbors in need in the S.E. Volusia area through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Next Meeting-Join Us! You're invited to be part of our gathering Tuesday March 12, 2019 at 6:30 pm at Sacred Heart Social Hall behind the church. Hope to see you there! For further information please call Roberta Lambert at Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are lay ministers who have been commissioned by the Bishop of Orlando to assist the priest in distributing Holy Communion at Mass. They serve at all Masses at Saint Gerard's Church Saturdays at 4:30 pm, Sundays at 10:00 am, Wednesdays and First Friday at 9:00 am, Holy Days, Funeral Masses and, with special training, visits to the homebound. Catholics in good standing must be recommended by the Pastor to the Diocese of Orlando. They are initially trained by the Diocese in a three hour class. These classes are held in various locations throughout the year. Once trained, the mandates are good for 5 years. After the initial training, Extraordinary Ministers receive instruction on the procedures at Saint Gerard's Church. Schedules are posted monthly. Ministers can indicate at what Mass they prefer to serve, and are asked to find a substitute if they are unable to serve on their scheduled day. They may be asked to arrive thirty minutes to an hour before Mass to help prepare for the Eucharistic celebration. Baptized and confirmed Catholics are qualified to be Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion. Anyone interested in serving in this ministry can speak to any Eucharistic Minister, or contact Jan Ford at All parishioners are invited to get together in the Gathering Place this Sunday, MARCH 3rd after the 10:00 am Mass to welcome newly registered parishioners. GERARD S Heavenly Father, we could never thank our military men & women Policeman, fireman and 1st Responders enough for their courageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people. Show us ways in our communities, churches, and families to thank and love them better. Keep and protect these heroes and their families, in the powerful name of Jesus we pray. Amen. St. Gerard A temporary change in the Liturgical Ministries: Altar Servers Joe Favaloro is retiring Temporary, Altar Servers will be: Lorraine Cassidy We are in need of someone to come forward and volunteer to be Leader of the Altar Servers. Your help to fill this ministry would be a good way to share your ideas with St. Gerard. Lord,may I honor you today by serving others. ALUMINUM POP TAB COLLECTION God the Father has blessed us with another New Year reminding us of the many families with critically ill children needing our help. Hopefully you've saved all those POP TABS from the holiday celebrations just ended to add to then collection that will be recycled into cash on Earth Day. The cash will help off-set the cost for temporary housing provided by Ronald McDonalds houses in Orlando for those families with critically ill children, receiving medical care at the children's hospitals in Orlando. So, bring those bags full of POP TABS to church and fill the collection basket in the vestibule. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS There are different gifts but the same Spirit, there are different ministries but the same Lord... To each person the manifestation of the spirit is given for the common good. Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents. It takes the help of many people serving in a variety of different liturgical ministries to help the liturgy flow smoothly and enable the participation of the assembly. At the present time, there is a serious need for volunteers in all ministries at St. Gerard s. We invite you to prayerfully reflect on the gifts God has given you and consider volunteering your talents for one of our ministries. Training: Training is provided to help you get started in all the listed ministries. Scheduling: Liturgical ministers are scheduled at the Mass time of their preference as often as fits their schedule and are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled Mass begins.
