When we are in these circumstances, we have the option to "go it alone" or to invite God into the journey, asking for wisdom and guidance as we make our way through these difficult times in our lives. Can we be open to having these struggles/trials be resolved in God's time? In God's plan? Be kind to me, Lord, and I shall live. How do we, and will we recognize the kindness of God in our lives?

4 Sacred Heart Middle School students attended the second homeless lock out on Friday, February 2nd to Saturday, February 3rd organized to raise funds for the poor. About 30 students slept in boxes at Sacred Heart School s assembly area. The funds raised will be used to pack food through Rise Up against Hunger and all jackets and blankets collected will go to the Soup Kitchen on Douglas St., NSB. Three guest speakers came and talked about the status of homelessness in our country and in our state and their mission in the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. It was definitely an unforgettable experience! The students look forward to doing another service project to meet their goal and bring in food packing this coming Lent.

CENTERING PRAYER Sacred Heart Centering Prayer Group began 3 years ago thanks to the faith and determination of Irene Babineau. Irene held an Introduction to Centering Prayer Morning in the Social Hall which was well attended by people from several parishes of the Eastern Deanery. Sacred Heart Centering Prayer Group began soon after and has grown to a small but faithful group which meets weekly on Thursdays at 6pm in the Church Chapel. All are welcome. Irene will soon be moving back to her home state of Massachusetts and we are sad to say goodbye to our dear friend. We thank her for the faithful leadership she has shown in Centering Prayer and her friendship. May God continue to bless Irene on her new venture; she will remain close in our hearts and prayers. 8 Volunteer Spotlight St. Gerard World Marriage Day honors husband and wife as the foundation of the family, the basic unit of society. It salutes the beauty of their faithfulness, sacrifice and joy in daily married life. HISTORY - The idea of celebrating marriage began in Baton Rouge, La., in 1981, when couples encouraged the Mayor, the Governor and the Bishop to proclaim St. Valentines Day as "We Believe in Marriage Day". The event was so successful, the idea was presented to and was adopted by Worldwide Marriage Encounter's National Leadership. By 1982, 43 Governors officially proclaimed the day and celebrations spread to U.S. military bases in several foreign countries. In 1983, the name was changed to "World Marriage Day", designated to be celebrated each year on the second Sunday in February. In 1993, his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, imparted his Apostolic Blessings on World Marriage Day. WMD celebrations continue to grow and spread to more countries and faith expressions every year. Krystyna Tyborowski is the volunteer responsible for taking care of the beautiful plants that adorn St. Gerard s as well as tending flower beds on the church property. A licensed gardener, her beautification efforts include watering, and repotting plants inside the church as well as planting flowers, watering, pruning and weeding flower beds. Krystyna has been a parishioner of St. Gerard s since it s inception in December of 1999 and has been a member of our choir since She was born in Poland and immigrated to the United States in Her daughter, Nelly, and two grandsons, David & Matthew live in Poland. She loves the warm climate here in Florida, and enjoys nature, music, singing and dancing. Thank you, Krystyna, for your hard work and dedication tending the flowers and plants. The Scribe A Lenten Musical Drama This poignant tale consists of 45 minutes of gripping narrative and 45 minutes of captivating song. It s the story of Roman centurion Andronicus whose Roman senator father pulls him away from the battlefront and assigns him as a scribe to assess the upheaval caused by Jesus. Andronicus interacts with Shepard's, John the Baptist, St. Peter and others whose lives are influenced by Jesus. World renown tenor Paul Pitts who depicts Andronicus, says the audience will experience a unique, incredible impression of the meaning for us of Jesus s resurrection. On March 23 you will experience Mary s Way of the Cross, the Passion as seen through the eyes of Jesus mother. Why pray the Stations of the Cross? It is a powerful way to contemplate, and enter into, the mystery of Jesus' gift of himself to us. One of our common religious struggles is to realize that we are not alone. The Good News is that Jesus entered into our life's experience completely - even suffering and death - and that he fell into the hands of a Loving God, who raised him from death to life. We can have hope that suffering and death have no complete hold on us. We will all share eternal life with Him, if we can fall into the hands of the same loving God. And, along the way, we are not alone. Jesus knows our suffering, and the death we face. That can be deeply consoling. So try the Stations, and experience the consolation they offer. 10 ALUMINUM POP TAB COLLECTION Thanks to all of you who have saved and donated your POP TAB s for the collection period, which ends February 28th. We are heading for another banner year. We re in somewhat of a dull season right now, the holidays are over and the picnic season and outdoor activities are still down the road, but there s more sports on TV than we can shake a stick at. That means there ll be plenty of great foods to enjoy, that will need a tasty libation to wash them down. So, if the libation of your choice has a POP TAB, please save it for the Ronald McDonald Houses. Thank you. See picture of last year s bounty in the vestibule of St. Gerard. We did good! St. Gerard's Memorial Brick Program We are excited to offer the opportunity for you to have an engraved brick embedded in front of our Holy Family statue on the path to St. Gerard's. Many use the engraved bricks to memorialize a loved one. This program is being run by the St. Vincent de Paul Conference. Grace Albanese is the program coordinator (386) Profits will help our neighbors in need. Engraved bricks cost $50; bricks with a logo cost $10 more. Forms are available on the bulletin board in the vestibule of St. Gerard's. LONG-SLEEVE RELIEF DRIVE FOR FARM WORKERS During February 14 thru March 29, please donate clean, new or used men's and women's COTTON long-sleeve shirts to be worn by farmworkers in the fields to protect against sun and pesticides. Deliver to St Gerard's 10 am-2 pm Monday through Friday. Heavenly Father, We could never thank our military men and women enough for their courageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people. Show us ways in our communities, churches, and families to thank and love them better. Keep and protect these heroes and their families, in the powerful name of Jesus we pray. Amen. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MINISTRIES AT ST. GERARD S There are different gifts but the same Spirit, there are different ministries but the same Lord... To each person the manifestation of the spirit is given for the common good. Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents. It takes the help of many people serving in a variety of different liturgical ministries to help the liturgy flow smoothly and enable the participation of the assembly. At the present time, there is a serious need for volunteers in all ministries at St. Gerard s. We invite you to prayerfully reflect on the gifts God has given you and consider volunteering your talents for one of our ministries. Training: Training is provided to help you get started in all the listed ministries. Scheduling: Liturgical ministers are scheduled at the Mass time of their preference as often as fits their schedule and are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled Mass begins.
