No cross the person is alive. Reflection God is always asking that we be not afraid, and that just might be because God knows we will be and are usually quite frightened. We don t like the dark, the unfamiliar, the complexities and that is how we find following Jesus, just like the disciples in Mark s Gospel. Seeds of the Kingdom grow into fruits of faith very slowly, and God, Who sees in secret does the cultivating through our experiences of life s invitations to trust in the little things. I d say, don t get out of your boats too quickly for the water dance, toes first. There is one thing I ask of the Lord, only this do I seek- to live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life. 4 Commemorating Kaelee Morrell The school community gathered together by the grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary in a simple celebration of Kaelee s life and blessing of the tree planted in her memory. Fr. Frank Nelson, C.Ss.R. presided the prayer service after the school Mass on Friday, May 18th. Led by school principal Mrs. Shelley Niswonger, the prayer service was followed by the symbolic pouring of soil by Kaelee s family and Sacred Heart teachers, students, and parents. As the tree grows, it would be a beautiful reminder of the life Kaelee lived. JUNE AM 3PM Register online-

6 Lou Bartos - Ordination Saturday June 9th was a joyous day in the life of Sacred Heart, St. Gerard and the Bartos family. We celebrated Lou s ordination to the order of Deacons at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary Queen of the Universe. Parishioners enjoyed fellowship and dinner with Lou and Kathy that evening in celebration of his ordination. Bishop Noonan ordained eight devoted men to the Order of Deacon at the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe. Deacon Lou is looking forward to serving Sacred Heart & St. Gerard in his new role as an ordained minister of the Church. Blessing to all who participated and work so diligently in making this day for Deacon Lou Bartos a successful & grace-filled celebration. Heavenly Father, Since the time of the Apostles you have inspired the Church to commission certain members to assist in a special way in the pastoral mission of Christ. Bless Deacon Lou Bartos and all others ordained and that they may be humble and faith-inspired in their service. We ask this through Christ, our Lord, Amen

7 Ministry News Parish Nurse News Diane Barr & Betty Kaiser June 2018 Exercise for Health There are 4 types of exercise: Endurance, strength, balance and flexibility. Each type is different and rather than focus on just one type, doing them all is more beneficial, cutting the risk of injury. Endurance exercises -are aerobic activities and increase your heart rate and breathing. Building endurance makes it easier to do brisk walking, household chores such as yard work, raking etc. Also fun activities as dancing. Strength exercise -makes your muscles stronger. They help you stay independent and do many everyday activities as carrying groceries and climbing stairs. These are exercises using weights, resistance bands and your body weight for strength training. Balance exercise - help prevent falls! Lower body strength exercises such as standing on one foot, heel-to-toes walking and tai chi are good examples. Flexibility exercises -strengthen muscles and help you stay limber. You will have more freedom of movement and other exercise becomes easier. Yoga, stretching of upper arms, shoulder and calf are some examples. Happy Moving!! 10 ALUMINUM POP TAB COLLECTION The POP TAB collection period for is in full swing, and I reach out again to all of you who savor that special libation, that sports an aluminum POP TAB, to please save it for the Ronald McDonald houses in Orlando. They depend greatly on these yearly collections, donated by the schools participating in their program. These collections help offset the cost to shelter, comfort and care for the families as they wait for their child to be cared for. Our collection of POP TABS, combined with the POP TABS collected by the families and friends of Chisholm Elementary School in NSB, weighed-in at 122 lbs this past collection period. That s a lot of POP TABS. There s a picture of the POP TAB collection on the bulletin board in the vestibule at St. Gerard, check it out. Thank you again and God Bless. WE NEED YOUR HELP... VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MINISTRIES AT ST. GERARD S There are different gifts but the same Spirit, there are different ministries but the same Lord... To each person the manifestation of the spirit is given for the common good. Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents. It takes the help of many people serving in a variety of different liturgical ministries to help the liturgy flow smoothly and enable the participation of the assembly. At the present time, there is a serious need for volunteers in all ministries at St. Gerard s. We invite you to prayerfully reflect on the gifts God has given you and consider volunteering your talents for one of our ministries. Training: Training is provided to help you get started in all the listed ministries. Scheduling: Liturgical ministers are scheduled at the Mass time of their preference as often as fits their schedule and are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled Mass begins.
