Pray for those who feel frustrated with the journey or feel stagnant or who are afraid of the risk of stepping into the unknown. Simply open ourselves up to trust and follow, to a deeper relationship with Jesus. Lent is an opportunity to see Jesus more clearly, to hear his call to servanthood. It can be an awakening of our soul. A renewed purpose and meaning for our life. The journey is not easy, but the rewards are great.

4 Religious Education Updates Religious Education Catechists used the Church for instruction of the faith. Mrs. Bilodeau spent time with the Grade 2 students who learned about the Sacrament of Eucharist. Mrs. Sylvia McCormick prayed the Stations of the Cross with her Grade 3 students. Mrs. Carol Stawicki took her 4th and 5th graders for a "sacrament" treasure hunt. It was a great learning experience for the students to be made aware of the Church and the richness of the Catholic faith. Sacred Heart School Faculty Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion Sacred Heart Parish welcomes four new EMHC from Sacred Heart School. The school has now 11 EMHC who serve at school masses and on the first Sunday of each month. Thank you for your ministry in our Church. SHS 2018 Varsity Basketball Team and their families shared a joyful moment with Coach Roger Bilodeau and Asst. Coach Craig Lawhorne in a get-together at the Casey Residence. 7 Traveling Mother of Divine Mercy Home Visitation The Pilgrim Virgin has been taken to two more homes during the last two weeks in January. The statue of Our Lady of Fatima was taken to the Regan family in Ormond Beach and Our Lady of Miraculous Medal was taken to the Swanson Family in New Smyrna Beach. Both families had the image of the Divine Mercy blessed and enthroned as King of their Home and Family by the Ministry s Spiritual Director, Fr. Aldrin Nunes, C.Ss.R. We would like to extend our gratitude to our parishioners who donated two of the statues making it possible for families visited to have the Pilgrim Virgin stay with them longer. The Eucharistic Ministers to the sick honored Loretta Wells at a luncheon held on February 23rd at Blackbeards. Loretta was presented with a plaque by Fr Tom in appreciation for her 30 years of service to the Lord in this ministry. The EMHC presented Loretta with a vase of carnations, lily, Larkspur and Hyacinth. Their symbolism speaks of her virtues: Pure Love, faithfulness, humility, devotion, an open heart and constancy. Loretta will still be serving the sick by taking the Eucharist to people in the hospital when needed. Thank you Loretta and God Bless you! With the statue of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel still at the home of the Dichoso Family in Deland, we currently have three Pilgrim Virgin statues out in three different homes in Volusia. If you want to schedule a Pilgrim Virgin home visitation and a Divine Mercy enthronement at your home, please call Words of Jesus from the Diary of Saint Faustina I desire to grant unimaginable graces to those souls who trust in My mercy. The Legion of Mary Free Library Thanks to all that stopped by our free book library. 10 ALUMINUM POP TAB COLLECTION The POP TAB collection period for has ended, and a hearty thanks to all of you who have saved and donated your POP TAB s. We had another banner year, filling two tubs and one pillow case. Watch for a new picture to be posted on the bulletin board in the vestibule at St. Gerard. The collection period for has begun, so I ask you to please start saving again. The Ronald McDonald Houses in Orlando depends greatly on these yearly collections, donated by the schools participating in this program. These collections help offset the cost to shelter, comfort and care for the families as they wait for their child to become healthy again. Our collection is funneled through Chisholm Elementary School in NSB. WE NEED YOUR HELP... To keep the Sacred Heart & St. Gerard roster up to date- In order to better serve our parish we strive to maintain a church roster that is as accurate as possible. We ask that our registered parishioners call the parish office at to inform us when changes to your information occur including name, address, telephone number, a move out of the parish, the death of a family member who is a registered parishioner, etc. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR MINISTRIES AT ST. GERARD S There are different gifts but the same Spirit, there are different ministries but the same Lord... To each person the manifestation of the spirit is given for the common good. Every person is called to contribute to the liturgy in a manner suited to his or her unique talents. It takes the help of many people serving in a variety of different liturgical ministries to help the liturgy flow smoothly and enable the participation of the assembly. At the present time, there is a serious need for volunteers in all ministries at St. Gerard s. We invite you to prayerfully reflect on the gifts God has given you and consider volunteering your talents for one of our ministries. Training: Training is provided to help you get started in all the listed ministries. Scheduling: Liturgical ministers are scheduled at the Mass time of their preference as often as fits their schedule and are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their scheduled Mass begins. Contact: Please see the list of ministries below. Call the leader of the ministry you are interested in to volunteer or for further information. Many hands make light work!
