RCIA/Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults: Those interested in learning about becoming a member of the Catholic Faith contact Parish Office, Sponsors for Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation are required to provide a certificate of eligibility if they are not a member of our Partner Parish. To be a sponsor, you must be Baptized and Confirmed. Any parishioner needing a certificate of eligibility to be a sponsor for another parish is required to personally visit the Pastoral Center to obtain a certificate at our office during business hours. 2 FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT April 23, nd Sunday of Easter ~ Divine Mercy Page 2 Partner Parish of St. John the Baptist and St. Joseph MISSION STATEMENT T he Living Faith Community of Saint John the Baptist, Scottdale, PA and Saint Joseph, Everson, PA are bridged by our common Baptism, while maintaining our respective ethnic heritages. We are called by Jesus Christ to be a nurturing community through worship and service. W e are committed to preserve our Catholic beliefs centered on the Eucharist as we become better disciples while continuing to develop strong lay leadership. G uided by the Holy Spirit, we share a vision for the future. We will become a vibrant Partner Parish where all feel loved and welcomed. Today s Readings First Reading : Throughout Easter Time, our First Reading is taken from the Acts of the Apostles, leading us to reflect upon the story of the first Christians and the community of believers. The brief passage from the Acts of the Apostles which we hear today provides a glimpse into the life of the early Christ8ian community, a vision statement of the ideal community in which God is praised and the people are in communion with one another. Responsorial Psalm 118: Through the proclamation of Psalm 118, we are called together to sing the praise of God whose mercy endures forever. The psalmist acknowledges that we may falter and fall at times, yet the Lord is our strength. Particularly in Easter Time, our song of praise is appropriate. The rejected stone has become the cornerstone. This is the day the Lord has made: let us be glad and rejoice in it. Second Reading: The second reading, from 1 Peter, begins with a great proclamation of praise, summarizing the reason for our rejoicing, namely the Resurrection of jesus Christ which opens the doors to salvation for those who are safe-guarded through faith by the power of God. While we may have to suffer through various trials, we are encouraged to remain steadfast in faith, insuring that we will attain the goal of our faith, salvation in Jesus Christ. Gospel: Our reflection on this passage from the Gospel according to John often focuses on Thomas, whom we aoten label doubting. So much so,k we may miss the other aspects of the story: Jesus proclamation of peace, the disciples being sent, the gift of the Holy Spirit, the life that is offered through belief in Christ. The familiar story of the disciples encounter with the Risen Christ encourages our focaus on faith, even when we experience doubt, and the impact of this faith in our lives: peace, mission, and new life. Next Week: Third Sunday of Easter: Acts of the Apostles 2:14, 22-33: Psalm 16: 1-2,5,7-11; 1 Peter 1: ; Luke 24: 13-35

This has been changed from the usual Second Sunday of the month because of Mother s Day. Our topic will be The Sacrament of Holy Orders. Our Guest speaker will be Father Tyler Bandura. He serves as associate director for the Office for Clergy Vocations. This will be our last session for the year. Even if you haven t registered, please come and join us. Everyone is invited to attend! Do You Know???? What is the Sacrament of Holy Orders? What is a priest? Who were the first priests? Where does the authority of priesthood come from? What is necessary to become a priest? How long does it take to become a priest? Why do priest not get married? Why is the priest called Father? How many of these could you answer correctly? 5 WORDS FROM OUR PASTOR. Jesus I Trust in You! O n this second Sunday of Easter, we are observing Mercy Sunday. It is also called White or Alba Sunday, because the Neophytes went to Church wearing their white baptismal garments, so that people could easily recognize them. Today, we will finish our Mercy of God novena, by joining Bishop Malesic at 3:00 P.M. in the afternoon at the St. Clair Park in Greensburg for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and recitation of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The parishes from the entire Diocese of Greensburg will be there to take part in this special observance of the Year of Mercy. I hope to see many of you representing our Partner Parish. Certainly, many of you can car pool and travel together. I would like to this opportunity to welcome to our Partner Parish Hailey and Alayna Cross, who made their profession of faith, Confirmation and First Holy Communion this past Holy Saturday Night Easter Vigil. I also wish to thank all those who worked during this past Lenten Season to make our Fish Frys such a successful event. Shortly we will have a wrap-up meeting; and to those who made this Easter such a special celebration: janitorial staff, ladies who cleaned St. John s, members of the environment committee, music director, cantors and musicians, altar servers and those who trained them, lectors, Eucharistic Ministers of the Holy Communion, foot washers, those who carried the Holy Oils, as well as, the Paschal Candle and Holy Water carriers to St. John. May God bless you abundantly! Once again my mother and I wish to thank all those who shared their Easter Baskets with us, greetings, cards, chocolates and other culinary delectai to bring forth the Easter Joy! Bóg Zapłać!
