2 Thursday Evensong Ascension Day 25 May :15 pm Welcome to Grace Cadral. Choral Evensong marks end working day and prepares for approaching night. The roots this service come out ancient monastic traditions Christian prayer. In this form, it was created by Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop Canterbury in 16 th century, as part simplification services within newly-reformed Church England. The Episcopal Church, as part worldwide Anglican Communion, has inherited this pattern evening prayer. In this service we are invited to reflect on business past day, to pray for world and for ourselves, and to commend all into God s hands as words Holy Scripture are said and sung. The beauty music is fered to help us set our lives in light eternity; same light which dwelt among us in Jesus, and which now illuminates us by Spirit. May this service be a blessing to you. Voluntary Opening Sentence Preces Officiant The people stand as procession enters. The Invitatory and Psalter O Lord, open thou our lips. And our mouth shall shew forth thy praise. O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. Paul Halley Glory be to Far, and to Son, and to Holy Ghost; As it was in beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. A men. 3 Daniel 7: 9 14 The Lessons The Magnificat The people stand. Charles Villiers Stanford Magnificat and Nunc dimittis in G Maor My soul doth magnify Lord, and my spirit hath reoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded lowliness his handmaiden. For behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed. For he that is mighty hath magnified me, and holy is his Name. And his mercy is on m that fear him throughout all generations. He hath showed strength with his arm; he hath scattered proud in imagination ir hearts. He hath put down mighty from ir seat, and hath exalted humble and meek. He hath filled hungry with good things, and rich he hath sent empty away. He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel, as he promised to our forefars, Abraham and his seed for ever. Glory be to Far, and to Son, and to Holy Ghost: as it was in beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Luke 1:45 55 Matw 28: The people sit. The Nunc Dimittis The people stand. Stanford Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word; For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before face all people, To be a light to lighten Gentiles, and to be glory thy people Israel. Glory be to Far, and to Son, and to Holy Ghost: as it was in beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Homily The Apostles Creed Sung on a monotone. All I believe in God, Far almighty, maker heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by Holy Ghost, born Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from dead. Luke 2:29 32 He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on right hand God Far almighty. From nce he shall come to udge quick and dead. I believe in Holy Ghost, holy catholic Church, communion saints, forgiveness sins, resurrection body, and life everlasting. Amen. 2

6 The Readings Daniel 7: 9 14 As I watched, thrones were set in place, and an Ancient One took his throne, his clothing was white as snow, and hair his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels were burning fire. A stream fire issued and flowed out from his presence. A thousand thousands served him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood attending him. The court sat in udgment, and books were opened. I watched n because noise arrogant words that horn was speaking. And as I watched, beast was put to death, and its body destroyed and given over to be burned with fire. As for rest beasts, ir dominion was taken away, but ir lives were prolonged for a season and a time. As I watched in night visions, I saw one like a human being coming with clouds heaven. And he came to Ancient One and was presented before him. To him was given dominion and glory and kingship, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that shall not pass away, and his kingship is one that shall never be destroyed. Matw 28: Now eleven disciples went to Galilee, to mountain to which Jesus had directed m. When y saw him, y worshiped him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and said to m, All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go refore and make disciples all nations, baptizing m in name Far and Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching m to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to end age.
