1 Evensong Feast of St. Bartholome 24 August :15 pm Welcome to Grace Cathedral. Choral Evensong marks the end of the orking day and prepares for the approaching night. The roots of this service come out of ancient monastic traditions of Christian prayer. Thomas Cranmer, Archbishop of Canterbury in the 16th century, created this form as part of the simplification of services ithin the nelyreformed Church of England. The Episcopal Church, as part of the orldide Anglican Communion, has inherited this pattern of evening prayer. In this service e are invited to reflect on the business of the past day, to pray for the orld and for ourselves, and to commend all into God s hands as ords of Holy Scripture are said and sung. The beauty of the music is offered to help us set our lives in the light of eternity; the same light hich delt among us in Jesus, and hich no illuminates us by the Spirit. All these things my hand has made, and so all these things are mine, says the Lord. But this is the one to hom I ill look, to the humble and contrite in spirit, ho trembles at my ord.
