Session has announced that we have engaged Rev. Wayne Adcock to be our Minister of Worship and Pastoral Care. He will be leading us in worship services and will be providing pastoral care to our members and prospective members. This position, which is part time, will be for 3 months, beginning Feb 1st, and will be renewable as needed until we call our permanent Pastor. We are so pleased to have him with us and are grateful for his loving and encouraging heart for our congregation. Welcome, Wayne! Athletic Shoes Wear Out But They Can Live On Really, they can. Don't trash your old athletic shoes to be consigned to the landfill forever. Bring them to church so they can be taken to the Nike collection center in Johnson Creek, and they will be recycled through the Nike Better World Reuse-a-Shoe program. Thus far, nearly 30 million shoes have been saved from going into landfills. The worn-out shoes should be brought to church February A second collection cycle will take place the week of Earth Day, April 22. Tell your family, your friends, and your neighbors about this earth-friendly and useful way to dispose of old athletic shoes. 2 Page 2 The Proverb February 2015 SESSION NOTES: Kim Koski (Clerk of Session) / dkoski@wi.rr.com NEXT MEETING: Sunday, Febrary 15 at 11:30 a.m. We have much to be thankful for as 2015 begins. One reason is that Larry Lemmenes has agreed to serve as Elder for a 2 year term. Although he is taking some time off to recover from his recent injuries, we are so grateful for his willingness to serve and the experience that he brings to Session. We are also very pleased that Reverend Wayne Adcock has agreed to serve as our Minister of Worship and Pastoral Care. This is a part time position, for a 3 month term, renewable as needed until we call our permanent Pastor. Pastor Wayne will bring consistency, encouragement and caring to our congregation as we continue our pastoral search. Motion from Stated Session Meeting Dec 9: Motion: We enter into a covenant agreement with Rev. Dr. E. Wayne Adcock for a period of 3 months, with the option for extension, as Minister of Worship and Pastoral Care, pending mutually acceptable financial terms between Rev. Adcock, KMUPC and COM. So moved. Motion from the Congregational Meeting on Jan 18: Elder Candidate: Larry Lemmenes There was a motion and a second to sustain nominations and cast a unanimous ballot. The motion carried. No motions at the Stated Session Meeting on Jan 18. Phyllis Warden will be the Elder in charge of the Sacrament of Holy Communion on February 1st. Please contact her if you or someone you know would like a home communion visit. Enjoy the Peace which is found in the Presence of God! Blessings, Kim Koski, Clerk of Session PASTOR NOMINATING COMMITTEE UPDATE: We met with the Pres bytery to review our current Ministry Information Form (MIF) on January 6 th. Excellent suggestions were offered to enhance our MIF to draw the bet candidates to KMUPC. It was a very informative and productive meeting. Subsequently the PNC has met twice and has upgraded our MIF, incorporating suggestions made by the Presbytery. It has been completed and has been forwarded to the Presbytery for final approval and posting. Once approved we will start to receive Personal Information Files (PIFs) from potential candidates and the interviewing process will start. Sunday school classes meet from about 10:15 to 11 a.m. Next Youth Group meeting will be Wednesday, February 25th from 5:30-7 p.m. New members are desperately needed to help out on C.E. Please contact Sam Salzman if you are interested in helping out. Work will be continuing on the new youth room down stairs soon! Thank you to everyone who has helped support it so far. The children, both young and old, participated in an original Christmas program, written by Holly Salzman. It is a new perspective on the story of Jesus' birth. A big thanks to all that were involved: Dwayne and Kim Koski, the Rock kids, the KFC, Bob Flatt, Scott and Tryna Meyer, Jaime and Sam Salzman, Jan Mahaney, Donna Anderson and especially Holly Salzman. Great way to end 2014 for the KMUPC kids! We started 2015 with a bash. ROCK went to the movies with the red carpet treatment! We played games, made snowmen, had our faces painted, had our pictures taken with characters and received awards for being great kids. KFC played some fun games and had pizza. These fun times rely on volunteers. Thanks goes to Sam and Jaime Salzman, Scott, Alyx, and Tryna Meyer, our paparazzi Stephanie Flessert, Kim Koski, and Gretchen Lemmenes, our surprise kitchen help Heidi Kemos' mom Pat Froebel, and a special thanks to Sara Meyer from Love Bug Face Painting for painting our faces. Looking forward, we have blanket tying with the PW in February plus other activities. Kids of all ages are invited to join or volunteer! Contact Tryna Meyer at or Sam Salzman. ADULT BIBLE STUDY: Sundays at 9 a.m. (Meeting Room) Phyllis Warden is leading a basic Bible study for the next few weeks. Anyone interested is welcome to drop in and participate in the class. This Lenten Season, we are combining a bible study and lunch, rather than an evening service and supper. No need to sign up! Bible study/sing (or read!) your way through this Lenten season with "Will You Come and Follow Me? An Adult Lenten Study on Hymns." Written by Mary Louise (Mel) Bringle and Beverly Howard, this adult study takes a look at the text of various Lenten hymns. The following hymns are examined, one in each session: "Lord, Who throughout These Forty Days," "Will You Come and Follow Me (The Summons)," "I Danced in the Morning (Lord of the Dance)," "To God Be the Glory," "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," and "All Glory, Laud, and Honor." Each session will challenge adults to work through the meaning of the text, learn more about the hymn writers and discover how the text relates to them today.

In 1928, 16-year-old Minka was on a picnic in the woods when she was assaulted and raped [and became pregnant]. The baby was secretly born, named Betty Jane, and given up for adoption. For decades, Minka wrote letters trying to get news of her daughter; she kept loving and praying for her, even though she never dared believe they would meet again. Until nearly eighty years later, when Minka whispered [a] secret, impossible prayer for the first time... Unbeknownst to Minka, that very same day, a judge was releasing the sealed adoption records to her 77-year-old daughter. And soon, Minka's phone would ring. We need hostesses for both these meetings! Now that the New Year is in full swing, the PW is busy with the Baby items. Past experience has shown us that babies are arriving larger and fit into 3 month size clothing quite well. Newborn hats are always needed in the cold weather, and blankets too. Babies come with many needs. So anything that is necessary to keep a baby happy is greatly appreciated by the needy mothers we supply these layettes to. Jean Mickler is chairperson of this mission project. We will be putting the layettes together in March. If you have a lot of Christmas cards, Birthday Cards, Get Well cards or greeting cards of any variety. Remember to bring them to Church and place in one of the 3 drawers of the file in the Narthex. The women at ShoreHaven make beautiful greeting cards and appreciate all the cards parts we can supply. Remember to save your coupons for our Service Men and Women stationed abroad (and here in the States) as the PX on the Military bases, accept all coupons, out dated and all. These may be placed in the drawer file in the Narthex also. Now that we are thinking maybe Spring is on the way it is time to think FLEA MARKET. 8 Page 8 The Proverb February 2015 DENOMINATIONAL NEWS Join us at Discovery Day! February 21, 2015, In Mequon Experience new ways of communicating your faith, participate in meaningful workshops, share ideas, hear from gifted author Rev. Carol Howard-Merritt and enjoy fellowship with members from throughout the Milwaukee Presbytery! Registration: 8:30 am Presbytery Meeting/Workshops: 9:00am to 4:00pm Where: Crossroads Presbyterian Church 6031 W. Chapel Hill Rd., Mequon, WI What: Meaningful worship, thoughtful Presbytery meeting, delicious food, great workshops All people and all ages are invited - to deepen faith and enhance leadership - at dynamic, exciting, inspirational, Discovery Day. Discovery Day "Communicating Faith in the 21st Century" What does in mean to be Presbyterian? What differentiates Presbyterians from other denominations? For me, the answer is education. Education has been a hallmark of Presbyterianism since the puritans set foot in the new world. Presbyterians build and support educational institutions. Compared to other denominations, Presbyterian clergy are the most educated clergy and Presbyterian parishioners are the most educated parishioners. Our pews are filled with schoolteachers, principals, and superintendents. In addition, we are loaded with physicians, professors, lawyers (the good ones!), and other professionals. Furthermore, we believe in continuing education, which is why we have Discovery Day in the presbytery of Milwaukee. At Discovery Day this year, we will have 17 workshops that range from the traditional elder and deacon training, to "Understanding your Church's Brand." In addition to our wonderful local teaching and ruling elders, we have brought in several outside presenters: Mark Eldson (youth ministry), Robyn Adair (photography), Keisha Krumm (congregational growth), and Rusty Borkin (marketing and branding your church). Our keynote speaker is Carol Howard Merritt (no relations to me, at least as far as I know!), nationally known writer, blogger, and speaker on communications and young people. Each year Discovery Day tweaks its program and presenters, and each year it gets better! I am inviting you to this year's offering of continuing education at Discovery Day on Saturday, February 21. Bring your session, congregational leaders, young people, children, pastors, and friends. There will be a nursery for those under the age of 4, and a Day Camp for older children. It is a time for learning, fellowship, and sharing. Discovery Day will be held at Crossroads church in Mequon, in conjunction with the presbytery meeting. You may register here. I look forward to seeing you at Discovery Day 2015! Rev. Craig M. Howard, Executive Director of Strategic Partnerships of the Milwaukee Presbytery
