2 Welcome to this time of worship and prayer. ASSEMBLING IN GOD S NAME WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS Welcome to those visiting today! Please fill out a Visitor Card found in the pew rack and place it in the Offering Plate. Also, everyone please pass the red fellowship pad down the pew and back again noticing those with whom you are worshiping today. Prayer Cards are in the pew racks. Please place cards in the basket in front of the pulpit during the Passing of the Peace. Our church is handicapped accessible. There is an area set aside for wheelchairs on the left front section of the theater-type seats we call the Amen Section. 3 *HYMN #223 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross *CALL TO CONFESSION God s bow has been hung in the clouds Genesis 9:13 a unilateral disarmament in spite of our sin. God remains faithful to the covenant of steadfast love, even when we are unfaithful. Without fear, then, we confess our sins. *PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) God of mercy, we begin this Lenten season in confession. We do not live according to your ways, but according to our own. We condone violence, participate in systems of injustice, and use power to our own advantage at the expense of others. Forgive us, we pray, when we are tempted to follow paths Psalms 25:4 other than those you set before us. Teach us your commandments; help us to turn from evil in its many guises, Mark 1:12 and turn us toward your kingdom drawing near. In covenantal love, remember us, we pray, and be for us, once more and always, an ark of safety and new life. In Christ s name we pray. 4 *ASSURANCE OF FORGIVENESS As Noah and his family were brought safely 1 Peter 3:20 21 through the flood onto dry ground, so in baptismal waters we are brought from death into new life in Christ. Jesus Christ, who is at the right hand of God, 1 Pet. 3:22 forgives us and reconciles us and all things in heaven and on earth. 6 Faith Community Notes PW Blanket Project February 18th, 2018 DMPC Women s winter project is the Church World Services Blanket Sale. These blankets are sent to people who have gone through a disaster in all parts of the world. These areas have experienced earthquakes, flooding, extreme poverty and devastating illnesses. It shows them that someone cares. It s like a hug made out of cloth. These blankets can be used in many ways: robes, rugs, shelters, or to carry possessions. Blankets will be $5.00 and may be donated in Honor or Memory of a friend or loved one. Bread and Broth Book Study Begins February 21, 2018 During the Lenten season we will have a Bible Study based on Heidi Havercamp s book Holy Solitude: Lenten Reflections with Saints, Hermits, Prophets, and Rebels. We will meet on 6 consecutive Wednesdays and each week s discussion will be lead by a different church member. We will meet in the Fellowship Hall here at DMPC for dinner at 6:00pm and a discussion will follow from 6:30-7:30pm. Join us for some good food and fellowship! Please mark these dates on your calendar: February 21 February 28 March 7 March 14 March 21 March 28 Witness Service Committee February 25 thru March 11 Once again the WSC will be providing Easter baskets of food to families in need during the Easter season. Easter eggs containing slips of paper for the items needed will be available during February and March. If you know of a family in need, please contact someone on the Witness Service Committee or contact the church office. Tina has tickets! Spaghetti with marinara, with or without meatballs, salad, bread, dessert & beverage. Eat in or take out. 6
