3 Our Lady of the Rosary Church Sunday, December 2, A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRIESTS Father Joseph, Father Louis and Father Albino Advent is the beginning of our liturgical year and the first season of our liturgical seasons that the Church observes. It derives from the Latin word Adventus which means (arrival/coming). The dominant color of Advent uses in the church is purple/violet. The church observes it, to remember and celebrate the arrival of the Messiah into the world to save humanity from their sins. So in this Advent Season we are encouraged to make preparation of ourselves for the arrival or coming of our savior. His coming is so important because he comes to save us, to bring us all to the Father as His adapted children. Let us make this season then, a meaningful time to our lives, a chance to prepare for our salvation and a chance to ponder on the goodness and love of God to us by sending His only begotten Son Jesus for our own good. A scapular is a piece of cloth worn over the shoulders that originally signified a person belonged to a particular monastic order (the name scapular comes from the Latin word scapulae, which means shoulder ). The Church teaches that sacramental objects like scapulars or holy water do not confer grace like the sacraments. Instead they signify effects particularly of a spiritual nature, which are obtained through the intercession of the Church. By them men are disposed to receive the chief effect of the sacraments, and various occasions in life are rendered holy (CCC 1667).
