1 Saint of the Week Saint Philip Neri Born in 1515 at Florence, Philip demonstrated such good character as a child that he was nicknamed Philip the Good. He became a priest in 1551 and dedicated himself to the education of the young of the city, using a new method that joined theater and music to the catechism. With the support of Pope Gregory XIII, he founded the Congregation of the Oratory, He died in Rome in 1595 and was canonized in He is depicted with a long face and white beard, a black habit or chasuble, while adoring the Virgin Mary. He is invoked against rheumatism and earthquakes. He is the protector of the young. The name Philip is from the Greek and means lover of horses. ** Taken from Saints A Year in Faith and Art by Rosa Giorgi Please pray for the Church in our Diocese Heavenly Father, Bless your Church with an abundance of holy and zealous priests, deacons, brothers, and sisters. Give those you have called to the married state and those you have chosen to live as single persons in the world, the special graces that their lives require. Form us all in the likeness of your Son, so that in Him, with Him, and through Him, we may love you more deeply and serve you more faithfully, always and everywhere. With Mary we ask this through Christ our Lord. This week we pray especially for: Ethan Hokamp of Our Lady Queen of Heaven, WI Rapids Theology II North American College Prayer Intention of the Week: For all the baptized who have made a commitment to Jesus, that having set their hand to the plow, they May 21, 2017 may never look back, but Sixth Sunday of Easter only follow the Lord with joy
2 2 Welcome to Our Lady of Peace Parish Marshfield THANKS! THANKS!! THANKS!!! My dear people of Our Lady of Peace Peace to you all! As it is written in the book of Ecclesiastes 3:1, There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. I was asked to be at Our Lady of Peace for a few days, almost six months have passed. Days have rolled by very fast! Now the time has come to say, Good Bye and take up new assignments in Eastman and Wauzeka Parishes and move forward. A BIG thanks to Fr. Eric Berns and you good people. Father Eric has been more than a mentor to me; he has been like a brother and friend. I had an opportunity to learn a lot from him and also to share a lot about India and my life in particular with him. I feel heavy in my heart to depart from you all and say Good Bye. You have poured your love and affection on me in many ways. I came as a stranger but am going with many, many friends. The experiences at Our Lady of Peace will remain in my memories forever. This is the life of priests. When we are sent to a place, we try to bloom and then are uprooted and planted in another place to bloom again. From Our Lady of Peace in Marshfield I am uprooted and asked to be planted in Eastman and Wauzeka. One side sad to leave you, and the other side happy to go to a new parish along with a lot of anxieties and expectations. Hopefully, everything goes well. I ask for your prayers as I leave on June 29, May 20, 2017 is a special day for me. On this day, I will be completing my 26th year of priesthood. May 21, 2017 will be the start of my 27th year. As St. Mother Teresa said, A priest is expected to be a faithful priest not a successful priest. I will be a faithful priest until the end of my life if not always successful. I need your prayers. Please do say a wee prayer for me and I assure you of my prayers. You are all welcome to visit me in my new parish, but let me know in advance. If you visit, I will be more than happy to feed you with spicy Indian food. You will be welcomed. Good Bye until we meet again. God Bless- Fr. Rajan. A Novena is a tradition of praying a certain prayer(s) for nine days. Its origin dates back to the nine days that the Apostles and Mary spent together in prayer between the Ascension of Jesus into Heaven and the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost. This novena was first prayed at the direction of Our Lord Himself when He sent the Apostles back to Jerusalem to pray and wait until you are clothed with power from on high by the coming of the third Person of the Blessed Trinity. (Luke 24:49) Gift Presentation: Would you consider carrying up the offertory gifts at Mass with your family, your spouse, or even by yourself? All you need to do is let the ushers know before Mass that you are willing to do it. It would be wonderful to see new faces presenting, to the Lord, our earthly gifts that become the Eucharist.
