Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old nature with its practices and have put on the new nature, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. Here there cannot be Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, free man, but Christ is all, and in all. The Reading is from The Gospel of Luke 14:16-24 The Lord said this parable: "A man once gave a great banquet, and invited many; and at the time of the banquet he sent his servant to 3

The first said to him, 'I have bought a field, and I go out and see it; I pray you, have me excused.' So the servant came and reported this to his master. Then the householder in anger said to his servant, 'Go out quickly to the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in the poor and maimed and blind and lame.' 7 SUNDAY SCHOOL REPORT FOR DECEMBER 10th ~ Vision Statement ~ To be a community of engaged and educated young Orthodox Christians. ~ Mission Statement ~ To encourage and foster spiritual growth of young people in our Orthodox Faith. Kindergarten - 1st grade: Donna Thomson Attendance: 2nd grade - 4th grade: Brenda Roman Attendance: 5th - 6th Grades: Daphne Courey & Terry Theodorou Today we continued the studies in the ezine For to Us a Child is Born, the children enjoyed learning about The Nativity of Jesus Christ and St Joseph and the real St. Nicholas that was the inspiration for Santa Claus. They enjoyed studying the icons and learning how to identify items in the icons that depicted things about the Nativity of Jesus, the life of St Joseph and the life of St Nicholas. We ended with a game of Christmas Bingo that was enjoyed by all. Summer and Regan volunteered to be speakers during the upcoming Christmas pageant. On behalf of Ms. Daphne and Ms. Terry we'd like to wish all of the parents and Sunday school students a very Merry Christmas! Attendance: 4 7th - 8th Grades: Fred Cannaverde Attendance: 5 High School /Orthodox Life: Bill Orosz and Warren Baker Today we began with an overview and discussion Chapter 4 of Orthodoxy and Heterodoxy. This chapter is titled The Radical Reformation the continued efforts of reformers and the rise of new united denominations. In particular we discussed the Evangelical Christian Church and doctrinal pluralism influenced by the political motivation of the Prussian King. This doctrine maintained that members did not have adhere to the precepts of either the Lutheran or Reformed churches, but rather a common liturgical and parish life. This movement was supported by Pietism and was a reaction against the Roman Catholic Church and the first reformers (Luther and Calvin). Pietist Christian concepts of individualism along with the doctrine of sole fide (justification by faith alone ) influenced radical reformers in Germany, England and by exten- 7

8 sion, the United States. We will continue to study the Radical Reformation, its impact and the growth of protestant denominations. Attendance: 13 5th & 6th Grade Upcoming Projects The 5th & 6th Grade Sunday School have studied the The Three T's: Time, Talent, and Treasure. Like the children in the lesson, our kids decided to choose 3 Stewardship Projects to focus on this year. After discussing their own personal 3 T's, they came up with 5 ideas and chose 3: 1. Stewardship to Church - Once a month the class will go to the church for the last 10 minutes of our class and clean the pews of leftover bulletins and clean the icons by the candles. They began this in November and it is ongoing. 2. Vasilopita Baking Class - Saturday Dec 30, 2017 at 9am in the church kitchen the kids will learn how to bake Vasilopita. The cakes will be auctioned off at fellowship hour on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017 and the proceeds donated to the Sunday school program. 3. IOCC Souper Bowl of Caring - Kids will organize a non-perishable food drive to donate to a local food bank. Food drive will begin Jan. 21st and end on Feb 4, 2018 As so many people are traveling this Christmas, I would like to have all parents contact me and confirm which children will be attending this baking project so I know how much supplies to buy. 9 MESSAGE FROM HIS EMINENCE METROPOLITAN ALEXIOS December 12, 2017 To All the Faithful of the Metropolis of Atlanta My Beloved Children in Christ, Christ is born, glorify him. Christ is from heaven, go to meet him. Christ is on earth, be ye lifted up. Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing out with gladness, all ye people. For he is glorified. (Katavasia of the Nativity) It is my great privilege to once again communicate with you, on the occasion of the celebration we are approaching, the Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! This year, I pray that each of you has the opportunity to truly bring out, and focus on the family oriented spirit of this most blessed feast. For this celebration is one that involves the whole Orthodox Christian family. Together we will go to worship, reflect on the meaning of the Nativity, break bread with one another, and enjoy the spirit that comes from this feast. This spirit, of course, is one of reconciliation: man reconciles himself to God, and God reconciles Himself to His creation. In order for this spirit of reconciliation to be made manifest, God sends to us His Only-Begotten Son. His Son, out of love for us, takes on our flesh, and all its weaknesses. It is not merely enough for Jesus Christ, to humble Himself in this way. We must truly receive Him with open hearts. Only then, will we truly be able to receive His blessings, and His mercy. In this spirt, I greet you, your families and your loved ones, wishing you the most blessed and joyous Christmas you have ever experienced.
