2 Dear Parishioners, Many of you will have been on holiday or are going on holidays I hope you find refreshment, renewal and recreation. Holidays are important, part of that should be the worship of God. The Church of Ireland is part of the world-wide Anglican Communion, of 80 million people. So you should be able to find a Church very like our own. I don t know whether you realise it but there is a Diocese in Europe. It is the largest Diocese of the Anglican Communion covering ⅙th of the earth surface, including Morocco, with some 295 churches. English Churches and Congregations have been established since the reformation. The Episcopal Church of the United States has also 6 churches on the continent. Moreover, the Church of Ireland is in communion, through the Porvoo agreement with the Lutheran Church of Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Estonia and Lithuania. Also there are the Spanish Episcopal reformed Church and Lusitanian church (Portugal) are also members. In fact their bishops visited Dublin at the Synod in October, and the schools service in Christ Church Cathedral as well other engagements. In fact, we have 2 clergy from Dublin working in the Diocesan in Europe. Rev Darren McCallig, formerly Chaplain of TCD, now Vicar of St. Albans, Copenhagen, Rev. Mark Wilson, formerly chaplain in the Adelaide and Meath Hospital now a chaplain in the Algarve. When I have been on holiday, my wife and I have always received a warm welcome in these churches. They would be delighted to see you. For further information type in google Diocese in Europe. With best wishes, Canon Paul Houston Madagascar Fundraiser A coffee morning, cake sale and silent auction will take place on: 24 June from 10am 4pm in Bernard & Marie Neary s home, 7 Croaghpatrick Road, Cabra, Dublin 7. 4 A thought for the summer ahead I came across this lovely poem recently and thought I d share it with you. It s from the book Benedictus by John O Donohue. The eyes of Jesus I imagine the eyes of Jesus were harvest brown. The light of their gazing suffused with the seasons. The shadow of winter. The mind of spring. The blues of summer. And amber of harvest. A gaze that is perfect sister to the kindness that dwells in his beautiful hands. The eyes of Jesus gaze on us, stirring the hearts clay. The confidence of seasons that never lose their way to harvest. The gaze knows the signature of our heartbeat, the first glimmer from the dawn that dreamed our minds. The crevices where thoughts grow long before the longing in the bone sends them towards the mind s eye. The artistry of the emptiness that knows to slow the hunger of outside things until they weave into the twilight of the heart. A gaze full of all that is still future. Looking out for us to glimpse the jewelled light in winter stone. Quickening the eyes that look at us to see through to where words are blind to say what we would love. Forever falling softly on our faces, His gaze plies the soul with light, laying down a luminous layer. Beneath our brief and brittle days until the appointed dawn comes. Assured and harvest deft. To unravel the last black knot and we are back home in the house that we never left. CNS were recently awarded their fourth Green Flag for transport. Congratulations to all the pupils and teachers who have worked so hard to make this happen. Well done! News from CNS Parents Association: Some of the upcoming events which you might like to attend. Pass it on! 21 June Junior Infant and 6th Class plays; Farewell to 6th Class! 23 June- Summer BBQ- Fundraising night in Luttrelstown Golf Club 27 June- School Sale 29 June- End of year service 30 June- School closes for summer holidays! 5 New Vestry and Church Wardens commissioned in St. Mary s Church, Clonsilla On Sunday 28 May, Canon Paul commissioned the new Church Wardens (Ann O Connor and Alex Alino) and the Select Vestry in St. Mary s. On behalf of all of us, I would like to wish them all God s blessings as they take on their roles for the coming year. On Sunday 7 May, a beautiful sunny day, Dublin & Glendalough Diocese was the starting point of the celebrations of the 130 years of Mothers Union in Ireland and in particular in All Saints Church, Raheny where the first Branch of Mothers Union was opened in 1887 by Ms Anabella Hayes, wife of the then Rector. It was fitting for members from all over Ireland gathered to witness the Archbishop Most Revd. Michael Jackson bless the pilgrimage journey that the current All-Ireland President Ms Phyllis Grothier is taking around all the Dioceses in the country over the next two weeks to commemorate the 130 years with the Theme being 13 Decades of Love & Service. A Cherry Blossom Tree was planted by Revd Neal O Raw, a former parishioner of Raheny to commemorate the event. The guest speaker at the service was Christine, Lady Eames former World-wide President from Northern Ireland who spoke very eloquently about the work of Mothers Union around the World and in Ireland on the theme of Faith in Action. Ms Phyllis Grothier, All Ireland President and Ms Karen Nelson, Diocesan President read the first and second lessons respectively. Revd Norman McCausland, Rector and Rev David Mungavin, Diocesan Chaplin to Mothers Union, led the Service to a full church. Rachel Devlin 5

6 Boy s Brigade 2017 Display in the Castleknock Parish Centre Boys Brigade: Thank you to everyone who came along and supported the company on their annual display night of 28th April. It was a resounding success and very enjoyable to watch. The different sections worked hard than their efforts certainly paid off. Thank you to those who contributed prizes for the raffle and made donations. A special thank you to Dave Robinson who acted as Inspecting Officer on the night. Once again I would appeal for helpers for the upcoming year in September; even helping on an irregular basis would be a great start. Have a superb summer for as long as it lasts. Harold Success on the track for CNS at Morton Stadium. Well done to all who took part! Our Annual Parish Fun Day will take place on Saturday 16 September (2-5pm) in Castleknock Parish Centre. 6
