2 EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD! S P I R I T UA L R E A D I N G & R E F L E C T I O N Do not be amazed! You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Behold the place where they laid him. Mark 16:6 NEXT SUNDAY S GOSPEL READING JOHN 20: n the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, Peace be with you. When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained. O Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, Peace be with you. Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe. Thomas answered and said to him, My Lord and my God! Jesus said to him, Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed. Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, We have seen the Lord. But he said to them, Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe. Now, Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples that are not written in this book. But these are written that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that through this belief you may have life in his name. THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED! Please join us in this beautiful devotion to our Blessed FIRST RECONCILIATION CONGRATULATIONS Congratulations to the children and teens of our Catholic community who recently celebrated the Sacrament of First Penance / Reconciliation at Saint John the Baptist parish: Eduardo Borja, Yanet Borja, Yovani Borja, Marlen Borja, Odalis Chavez, Valeria Chavez, Giancarlo Farias, Kiara Hernandez, Medalin Hernandez, Alejandro Leon, Cristina Leon, Angeles Mandujano, Kira Mayer, Luis Ovalle, Ruth Ramirez and Anthony Vega. Our Seminarian Education Program is primarily funded through the DSA, the Friend to Seminarians Program, and the Second Collection held on Easter Sunday. REQUEST FOR PRAYERS We ask the faithful of St. John the Baptist to continue to pray for our elect and candidates who are in our RCIA program. Pray that their faith be full and unreserved, and let it penetrate their thoughts and prayers. Rudy Macias and Roni Macias will receive the initiation sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil. JOHN THE BAPTIST SCHOLARSHIP Attention High School Seniors of St John s. St John s will be awarding a First Year College Scholarship for the academic year in the amount of $1,000. If you are a confirmed, active, registered member of the parish; a 2014 high school graduating senior, and will be enrolling in college in the fall of 2014, then you are eligible to apply. Our counseling service has a sliding scale fee based on income. We have immediate openings for folks looking for anger management as well as EMDR, individual, couple and family counseling. Dear Fellow St John Parishioners, On behalf of the Knights of Columbus council #9492, St. John of Tryon, I would like to thank everyone for coming out to enjoy our Lenten fish fry this year and making it one of our best years ever! Without your continued support of our events and functions, we wouldn t be able to continue our support of the parish, seminarians and community. I want to let you know that you are greatly appreciated and in our prayers. I would also like to thank all of my fellow Brother Knights who gave so unselfishly of their time and talents at the fish fry. The companionship and the fraternity that have developed over the years in doing these projects is, in my opinion, priceless. You re a great bunch of guys. John Flynn, Grand Knight Council #9492, St John of Tryon CLOTHING DRIVE Catholic Charities Diocese of Charlotte Asheville office is currently accepting all gently used and new spring and summer clothing. We are unable to accept winter clothing donations. Donations may be brought to the 50 Orange Street address 9-5 any weekday with the exception of Wednesday. 4-H BBQ 4-H BBQ tickets are now on sale at the Extension Office in Columbus. BBQ will be held on April 25th 4:30-7:00 at the 4-H Center. Tickets are $8.00 adult and $4.00 child. No ticket sales at the door. NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER The Saint Barnabas Ecumenism Commission will be hosting an official National Day of Prayer Site at the Outdoor Picnic Shelter on Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 12:15 to 12:45 PM. WE hope you will be able to join us and fellow Christians as we pray for our country under this year s theme: One Voice, United in Prayer.
