2 SUNDAY OF DIVINE MERCY! SPIRITUAL READING & REFLECTION NEXT SUNDAY S GOSPEL READING LUKE 24:13-35 T hat very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. He asked them, What are you discussing as you walk along? They stopped, looking downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have taken place there in these days? And he replied to them, What sort of things? They said to him, The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see. And he said to them, Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory? Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther. But they urged him, Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over. So he went in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us? So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them who were saying, The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon! Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread. THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED! PAGE 2

PRAYING THE ROSARY BEFORE MASS IN MAY The rosary will be prayed one-half hour before each Saturday Vigil and Sunday Mass, in the Church, during the month of May. Please join us in this beautiful devotion to our Blessed Mother. All are welcome. ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT WILL BE HELD FROM 9:00AM TO 12:00 NOON FRIDAY, MAY 2 ND REMINDER: Each Adorer is requested to arrive 5 minutes before your assigned hour. Please note that Adoration ends at noon, followed by Benediction. This is a change from our regular schedule. CONGRATULATIONS AND WELCOME! What an amazing night! In one evening, all three of the Sacraments of Initiation are celebrated - the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Holy Communion. Through the Sacrament of Baptism, we are washed of the stains caused by Original Sin. Next, the Sacrament of Confirmation both welcomes us into the Church and brings us the graces of the Holy Spirit. Finally, as full members of the Church, we can accept the true body and blood of Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Communion. All of this happens amidst one of the most beautiful Masses of the year- the Easter Vigil! Congratulations to Ronnette Macias and Rudy Macias the newest members of the Catholic Church and our parish. Ronnette and Rudy celebrated the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil last weekend. Sam Williams was welcomed into Full Communion with the Catholic Faith and joined the following in reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation: Elvira Albarran, Marshall Paul Gagne, and Chris Pitts. We also congratulate Elvira and Sam who celebrated the sacrament of First Holy Communion at the Easter Vigil. Special appreciation goes to Suanne Then, the RCIA catechist and to the sponsors who supported and helped to prepare the RCIA members. These teens will be confirmed by Bishop Jugis on June 30th with the rest of the confirmandi. We ask that you continue to keep all the children and teens in our sacramental classes in your prayers as they continue their preparations to receive Jesus, for the first time, in Holy Communion on May 24, 2014 and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation on June 30, A special thanks to Pam Jaworski and Steve Jaworksi who were the catechists who helped to prepare the Borja siblings for their sacraments of confession and First Holy Communion. Many thanks also to their parents, godparents, grandparents, and family friends who assisted the children in preparing them to encounter The Good Shepherd in this life-giving sacrament. Totus Tuus, Totally Yours, is a fun and energetic parish based summer catechetical program a week-long parish mission for Catholic youth (grades 1st 6th and 7th 12th) led by college aged teams of two men and two women.
