2 TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME! SPIRITUAL READING & REFLECTION Your word, O Lord, is truth; consecrate us in the truth. John 17:17 THE PATH FOR ENTERING THE KINGDOM OF GOD Now the first thing that I wanted to share with you is precisely the joy of having Jesus as teacher and as a model for our lives. Let us look to him! This gives us so much strength and consolation in our weaknesses, in our misery, and in our difficulties. We all have difficulties, all of us... Looking at Jesus we see he chose the path of humility and service. Rather, he himself is this path. Jesus was not indecisive; he was not indifferent. He made a decision and followed it through until the end. He decided to become man and as a man to become a servant until his death on the cross. This is the way of love, there is no other. This word solidarity runs the risk of being deleted from the dictionary because it is a word that bothers us, it bothers us. Why? Because it requires you to look at another and give yourself to another with love. And we want to take this path. Christ s humility is not moralism or a feeling. Christ s humility is real; it is the choice of being small, of staying among all of us sinners. Be careful, this is not an ideology! It is a way of being and a way of life that comes from love and from God s heart. Jesus is the path, and a path is for walking and following. We cannot follow Jesus on the path of love unless we first love others, unless we force ourselves to work together, to understand each other and to forgive each other, recognizing our own limits and mistakes. We must do works of mercy and with mercy! Putting our heart in them. Works of charity with love, with tenderness, and always with humility!. Therefore following Jesus on the path of charity, going with him to the existential outskirts. For the Good Shepherd what is far, what is on the margins, what is lost and unappreciated is the object of greater care, and the Church cannot but make her own this special love and attention. The first in the Church are those who are the most in need, humanly, spiritually, materially, the neediest. POPE FRANCIS His Holiness Pope Francis was elected to the See of St. Peter in Magnificat, Vol, 17, No. 7, September 2015 THAT IN ALL THINGS GOD MAY BE GLORIFIED! PAGE 2

4 TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME! PARISH ANNOUNCEMENTS O UR L ADY OF F ATIMA A ND T HE F IVE F IRST S ATURDAYS On December 10, 1925 at the Convent in Pontevedra, Spain, Sister Mary Lucy of the Sorrows [Lucia was 10 years old and the oldest of the three shepherds when Our Lady appeared to them in 1917] saw the Ever-Virgin. Then, the Mother of God, addressing Lucia, asserted: My daughter, look at my Heart encircled with the thorns with which ungrateful men pierce it at every moment by their blasphemies and ingratitude I promise to assist at the hour of death with the graces necessary for salvation all those who, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, go to Confession, and receive Holy Communion, recite the Rosary and keep me company for a quarter of an hour while mediating on the mysteries of the Rosary with the intention of making reparation to me. During May of 1930, Lucia was asked by one of her spiritual directors Why should it be five Saturdays and not nine or seven in honor of the Sorrows of Our Lady? Lucia replied by stating that in the chapel on the night between May , she asked our Blessed Lord He answered in the following way. There are five ways in which people offend and blaspheme against the Immaculate Heart of Mary: The blasphemies against her Immaculate Conception; The blasphemies against her Perpetual Virginity; The blasphemies against her Divine Maternity (Motherhood), and simultaneously refusing to accept her as the Mother of all mankind; Those who publicly try to instill in the hearts of children indifference, contempt and hatred against this Immaculate Mother; Those who directly insult her in her sacred images. Taken from: Taking Another Look at Fatima: An Introduction To The Apparitions and Message of Our Lady of Fatima by Msgr. Charles M. Mangan. COULD YOU GIVE A COUPLE HOURS FOR JUST FOUR WEEKS?... Hello ladies and gents of the parish. We are in need of some help. Monday mornings, ladies from the parish clean, sweep, dust, replace candles and polish the sanctuary. One of our weekly volunteers will be temporarily out of commission due to surgery. We are asking one or two ladies or gentlemen if you can help on Monday mornings after the 8:30 Mass for a couple of hours, for just four weeks. We are usually finished by 10:30am. If you can help, please contact Theresa in the parish office at stjohnff@windstream.net. Thank you! Please note that when a regularly scheduled Mass cannot be celebrated here, Fr. Arnsparger will offer the previously requested intention at a private Mass.
