2 SPIRITUAL READING & REFLECTION LOVING WITH THE FATHER S LOVE At every street corner minor wars break out, just as at the crossroads of the world there are always major wars going on. At every turning point in our lives we may either make peace or make war and we find ourselves perilously well-designed for making war. This is because when our friends possessions rub up against our own they often produce an irritation. Brothers, however, have all the goods of their father to manage and to share. This is why children of God are the only genuine peacemakers. For them the earth is the house that belongs to their Father in heaven. Everything on the earth belongs to him, even the soil itself. Yes, the earth is in fact the house of their Father. No part of it do they disdain no continent, no island however small, no nation, no back yard; they despise nothing no square, no sidewalk, no office, no store, no dockside, no railroad station They make it their business to create in the world a family spirit. Each morning as they take to the street they marvel at this new opportunity of getting to know with their bodily eyes all those brothers whom they have only met as yet in the depths of faith. They cannot isolate themselves from them or treat them as strangers; even the right to a seat in a bus becomes questionable Social distinctions become less clear cut. Categories based on human evaluation begin to break down. Few differences can appear important when compared to the title shared in common as sons and daughters of God; and these differences stand out about as prominently as a single thread of dyed material on the surface of a white sheet. As on an X-ray screen we see everything disappearing that is not essential to the organism its clothes, its muscles, so in the light of the title Son of God everything disappears except our divine lineage. Each adorer is requested to arrive 5 minutes prior to your chosen hour. FAST & ABSTINENCE Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Latin Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal, as well as two smaller meals that together are not equal to a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Latin Catholic Church from age 14 onwards. The conference theme will focus on Human Dignity at the Beginning of Life, and continuing education credits for healthcare professionals will be offered. A White Mass, honoring health care professionals and their role in the Church, will open the conference. Speakers include: Maureen Condic, Ph.D., University of Utah, School of Medicine; David A. 6 FAITH FORMATION RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION RCIA Classes Monday, February 25 th RCIA classes meet on Monday evenings at 7pm in the parish social hall. If you are interested in purchasing the book that the RCIA class is using, it is available for purchase in the parish office gift shop: Apologetics and Catholic Doctrine, by Archbishop Michael Sheehan. ($29.95 plus tax). WOMEN S BIBLE STUDY Thursday, February 28 th Women s Bible study will meet in the Parish Social Hall on Thursday at 10am. This study is on the Book of Judges. FAITH FORMATION Parents: Please check your Faith Formation Calendar. We have classes every week except for Monday, April 15th. We strongly encourage you to review their textbooks and or assignments each week. Pray with your children encourage them to pray their prayers. Students: Study hard but PRAY harder! Pray the Rosary every day! Families: Be sure to follow our Inclement Weather policy. Sacraments of Holy Eucharist and Confirmation: First Holy Communion (2 nd grade) Sunday, May 5 th at 11:00am Mass. Join us for part 3 in St. Benedict s Press 8-part series on The Sacraments (DVD), hosted by Father Matthew Kauth. We will learn how all the Sacraments are channels of divine grace that flow from the Body of Christ and that they are God s gift and love to His children. Christ touches us and we touch Him. So hopefully by the end of the series we will be able to better understand what St. Paul said: It is no longer I that live but Christ who lives in me. (Gal. 2:20) ST. JOHN MEN'S GROUP NEW MEETING DAYS! Tuesday, March 12 th 3pm Brothers in Christ is studying a video series from Fr. Patrick Winslow, on the Gospel of John.
