2 WOMEN S CLUB FASHION SHOW TUESDAY, MAY 16th, MASS AT 6:00pm for all the deceased Mothers & Women s Club Members followed by a FAHION SHOW IN MARIAN HALL Admission: A Baby Item(s) (These donated items will be delivered to the Pro-Life Women s Center to help less fortunate mothers). Spring & Summer Clothing fashions from Dress Barn will be modeled. Pizza & beverages will be served. Join us for our last meeting of the year and help us make a difference in a new mothers life! Mother s Day is Sunday May 14th. Our Mother s Day Novena Cards will be distributed this weekend by the ushers. You can drop them in the collection baskets on Sunday or send them to the Rectory. What a beautiful way to remember our mother s. Please come and show your devotion to Mary Mother of God. Our School is having May Crowning on Friday, May 12th at 1:30pm in Church. Also, please join the school children in saying the rosary in Church on May 8th, 17th, 22nd & 31st at 1:45pm. MAY 12th IS APPRECIATION DAY There is no way we can thank individually all those who are actively involved in various ministries and make Sacred Heart a better place of worship. To show our gratitude, all the ministers, volunteers and helpers are invited to our Appreciation Day on Friday, May 12th with Mass at 6:00pm followed by a dinner party in Marian Hall. ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL The monthly pledge billings for the Archdiocesan Annual Catholic Appeal pledges have been mailed. It is very important that these pledges be paid so that our parish will reach our goal. Please be generous and help Catholic Charities Moms, the hearts of the families they serve. HOLY NAME NEWS Holy Name invites all men to join them at their last meeting of the year on Sunday, May 21st, at the 9am Mass. Also, we will be collecting non-perishable food for our food pantry, for the last time this year. Needed items include canned meats, dry cereal, cookies, soups, and paper goods. WORLD DAY OF PARAYER FOR VOCATIONS Today, Good Shepherd Sunday, is a special celebration of World Day for Vocations: The world-wide Church invites us to honor all Christian vocation. We are called to be united as one flock under the guidance of our Shepard, Jesus. By our baptism we are all called, chosen, and sent to carry on the mission of Jesus. You are invited to participate in this annual celebration. PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS Provident God, You bless us with the gift of Jesus who cares for us as a good shepherd. By our baptism we are anointed and sent to continue the mission of Jesus. Guide your people to prayerfully choose a way of life that best serves you with their gifts. 3 Always On Sunday.. Last year at our first Parish Pastoral Council meeting the question came up, How do we encourage people to come to our Church? After many meetings and from the many responses received, a GREETERS ministry stood out as one of the most needed services in our Church. If a person is visiting the Church for the time, his/her impression of the people in the Church would determine whether he/she would come back again. At SACRED HEART PARISH we did not have to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere especially for all of our first-time guests and members alike. As a parishioner s first contact on arriving for Mass, Greeters play a key role in the unfolding of the liturgical action of the Eucharist. Our goal is to make every person who comes through the Church doors feel like a part of our parish family, by welcoming and supporting them in a positive, friendly, and spiritual manner. We want everyone who enters Sacred Heart to feel welcome and loved. Greeters are a ministry of hospitality. It goes beyond greeting and welcoming newcomers or parishioners; it begins in the parking lot and extends beyond the lobby of the Church. The Greeter serves as an extension of the priest people assigned to welcome or assist newcomers. We needed a Greeters Ministry. In April 2006 we formed the Sacred Heart Greeters Ministry to welcome our parishioners and our newcomers to our Church. A Priest cannot personally greet each member of the congregation, but a Greeter can act in his place welcoming all those who come to share in our Mass. The Priest extends his personal expression of warmth by shaking hands after the Mass is over as we leave the Church. We provide a personal touch to make everybody feel welcome. A friendly smile and welcoming words greatly bless us all. An honest smile and heartfelt handshake given in Christ s name nourish someone s soul or satisfy someone s need for more closeness. We also distribute special handouts. Greeters highest virtue is their willingness to express human kindness. Human kindness is the ultimate act of godliness. It is the most unselfish service we can give to our Lord. A kindhearted greeter and a warm hearted Church is a perfect place to be for the Lord. Be a part of this Ministry and let us grow together in Christ. If you are happy to be a part of Sacred Heart Parish, come and be a part of the Greeters Ministry and help share your joy. To serve the Lord is easy! We are to love others. One way of sharing that love is to be kind to others, to help them, give them a smile and a kind word. Being a Greeter is a wonderful way to accomplish this service to the Lord, our Church, and anyone who comes. I most cordially welcome new members of our GREETERS MINISTRY. They will be at the Church doors to greet all who enter our Church for Mass on weekends. 5 PARISH INFORMATION CONFESSIONS: Saturdays 4:00 to 5:00pm EUCHARISTIC ADORATION: The first Thursday of each month from 1:00 to 7:00pm. BAPTISMS: Sunday Afternoon at 12:30pm on the First & Fourth Sunday of each month. Arrangements should be made by both parents in advance at the rectory with one of the priests. Both parents and sponsors must attend a meeting on the Third Monday at 8:00pm in the Rectory Sponsors must be practicing Catholics. MARRIAGES: Arrangements should be made at least four months in advance to assure time for the banns and the procurements of the necessary documents. It is the wish of the Church that all marriages be solemnized at a Nuptial Mass. FUNERALS: All arrangements should be made at the rectory by a member of the immediate family. The family is encouraged to receive Holy Communion at the Funeral Mass. SICK CALLS: Holy Communion will be brought to the sick upon request. In the case of any probable danger of death, call the priest immediately. NEW PARISHIONERS: We welcome you to Melrose Park and particularly to the Family of Sacred Heart Parish.
