INTENTIONS OF OUR HOLY FATHER We are invited to unite with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, for his universal intention during the month of August. Artists. That artists of our time, through their ingenuity, may help everyone discover the beauty of creation. Or who has given the Lord anything that he may be repaid? Romans 11:35 St. Paul reminds us of a central fact of stewardship. We cannot give the Lord anything, because God already owns it all. God made everything. All that we can do is return a portion of God s many gifts back to Him. Sincere gratitude for our gifts opens our hearts to joyful generosity. August 20th $22, SUNDAY MASSES 8:00 AM AND 5:00 PM PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS NO OFFERTORY PROCESSION OF GIFTS AT THE 8 AM AND 5 PM MASSES. THERE IS NO COUNTING TEAM ASSIGNED FOR LABOR DAY WEEKEND SEPT. 3RD USHERS SCHEDULE SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD, 9:00 AM USHERS TEAM MEDITATION FOR August 27th, 2017 Belief in Jesus as the Messiah is central to being a disciple.. Peter s statement of faith that Jesus is the Messiah, the son of God, comes not from human knowledge, but through a revelation from God. As Jesus announces that Peter is the bearer of the keys to the kingdom, Peter is given the power to bind and loose. Similarly, Jesus gives is unique gifts by the power of the Holy Spirit that we are to use to bear witness to the Gospel. In the first reading, Isaiah speaks to how God works in and amongst His people to bring about justice and salvation. The second reading reminds us that all glory is to be given to God, whose ways are unsearchable. In the Gospel, Jesus gives Peter authority to bind and loose, as He gives him the keys to the kingdom of heaven.

You embrace with your tenderness all that exists. Pour out upon us the power of your love, that we may protect life and beauty. Fill us with peace, that we may live as brothers and sisters, harming no one. O God of the poor, help us to resolve the abandoned and forgotten of this earth, so precious in your eyes. Bring healing to our lives, that we may protect the world and not prey on it, that we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction. Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth. Teach us to discover the worth of each thing, to be filled with awe and contemplation, to recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature as we journey towards your infinite light. We thank you for being with us each day. Encourage us, we pray, in our struggle for justice, love and peace. Amen. Pope Francis published this prayer in his Laudato Si encyclical, and is meant for sharing will all who believe in a God who is the all-powerful Creator. On September 1, 2017, Pope Francis invites Catholics and all people of good will to join in the annual World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation. This Day of Prayer offers individual believers and communities an opportunity to reaffirm their personal vocation to be stewards of creation, to thank God for the wonderful handiwork which he has entrusted to our care, and to implore his help for the protection of creation as well as his pardon for the sins committed against the world in which we live.

12 ARE YOU INTERESTED IN BECOMING A CATHOLIC? Or perhaps you are a baptized Catholic who never completed the Sacraments of Initiation (Confirmation and Eucharist). The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is just for you! Gather with others who desire to know the Lord Jesus Christ in the truth of the Catholic Faith, as we undergo catechesis, reflect on the scriptures, and contemplate our call to faith in Christ in preparation for Baptism and/or reception and completion of the Sacraments of Initiation. Meetings are held on Sundays at 8:00 am in Father McGivney Hall (followed by 10:00 am Mass). If you are interested in getting connected, please call the Parish Center, Deacon Denis Rest in Peace Francis X. Donohue Father of Mary Rolwood 11 Karen Street Kendall Park, NJ Dorothy Januszka Mother of Laurie Davis 1 Cobblers Circle Franklin Park, NJ BEREAVEMENT WORKSHOP SEPTEMBER 9TH THROUGH OCTOBER 28TH Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for yourselves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light. Matthew 11:28-30 Do you find it exhausting to meet the demands of life while adjusting to loss? Come and rest at the ford of your journey in the shelter of others walking the bereavement road. We are offering an eight week workshop beginning September 9th, on Saturday mornings, from 10am to 12 noon in the Augustine Room. To register call Deacon Rivera, or deaconrivera@staugustinenj.org. Physical and spiritual nourishment are offered. ATTENTION LADIES AN AUTUMN RETREAT BY THE SEA A second retreat by the Shore! As Summer is ending and Fall is on its way, the kids are back in school and before the holidays are upon us, take the opportunity to spend some time for yourself at the Jersey shore on Retreat. This year, the second retreat at St. Joseph s by the Sea, will be Friday evening, September 29 to Sunday afternoon, October 1 at St. Joseph s by the Sea in Mantoloking, NJ, a beautiful house on the beach run by the Religious Teachers Filippini, which is fully airconditioned, featuring 22 private rooms with full bath accommodations between rooms. This year s retreat focuses on the theme of Surrender and Letting Go. According to Mary Lehmann, Facilitator, it is an introductory, no yoga experience necessary, nothing strenuous retreat which may be done in your chair if necessary. She adds If you want to participate in a session or two, or just spend the weekend in your robe and slippers and be pampered, have a room to yourself, read a book, walk the beach, enjoy meals prepared for you and just BE. There is no need to DO. We are human beings, not human doings. The yoga sessions are easy and some can be done sitting in a chair. We do sun salute in the morning but some just like to sit and watch and just listen. The Spirit of God is asking amazing women to gather in this beautiful, peaceful setting to find out how they can transition, just as the seasons transition, in the colorful, whimsical, loving flow of Life. Come to experience the freedom and Peace Jesus had in mind. Come to be yourself. Mass & prayer time will also be incorporated into the weekend. For anyone interested, Mary will invite a massage therapist to come on Saturday. There is an additional charge for this. If you want to look into this, we can put the therapist in touch with you for pricing and an appointment. Cost is $215 for the whole weekend, which includes Saturday and Sunday meals. Space is limited, so reserve your space soon by to: Nan at nanmark77@aol.com or Liz at ldeluca@staugustinenj.org. or calling Liz DeLuca at the Parish Office (732) A $100 deposit is required for the weekend. Checks payable to St. Joseph s by the Sea. First priority will be given to Parish Women, women from outside the parish are welcome if space allows. Come away with us, experience the beauty of the shore and the serenity of the sea and refresh your spirit.

14 The Month of October Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima The old Church of Saint Augustine contained a beautiful statue in honor of Our Lady of Fatima! A few years ago we started the tradition of having the Statue of Our Lady of Fatima being hosted in the homes of our parish families to further devotion to our Blessed Mother! On Sunday, October 1st at the 10:00 a.m. Mass, I will rededicate the Pilgrim Statue and once again it will begin its journey throughout our parish. Every family is invited to host the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady! True devotion to our Blessed Mother always brings one closer to the Heart of her son! The statue is approximately 3 feet tall and is hand-carved of wood, (light weight). The statue comes from Fatima, Portugal, where the Blessed Mother appeared to the three shepherd children, Lucy, Jacinta and Francisco. The apparitions took place in 1917 and the final apparition took place on October 13 th. Our Lady encouraged devotion to her Immaculate Heart, to pray in reparation for sin, and to meditate on the Mysteries of the Rosary. I pray that many will feel moved to host the Pilgrim Statue in their home. Don t let having young children deter you from having the statue of Our Lady in YOUR HOME! You will be able to have the statue for one week and it will be up to you to create your own prayer service privately, for your family or friends, whatever you wish! Please fill out the form below and return it to the Parish Center no later than September 8 th! ============================================================================- NAME: ADDRESS: TELEPHONE # I PREFER THE WEEK OF: 2 nd CHOICE IF PREFERENCE IS NOT AVAILABLE YOU WILL BE CALLED IF BOTH DATES ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
