A family must be registered in the parish, attend the baptismal preparation class, and cooperate with the regulations established by the parish. Our baptismal class is held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 8:00 PM. Please call the Parish Center to register any time during your pregnancy. THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION is celebrated on Saturday between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM in the Chapel or by appointment. THE SACRAMENT OF CONFIRMATION is celebrated once a year by the Bishop s delegate, here at St. Augustine. A candidate must successfully complete our Religious Education program. Adult Confirmation is held on Pentecost Sunday and any interested adults should contact the Parish Center. THE SACRAMENT OF THE SICK is administered at home to any Catholic who is seriously ill. Please call the Parish Center. Any parishioner admitted to a local hospital should contact the Catholic Hospital Chaplain through the hospital. A family member should contact the parish when someone is admitted to the hospital. We will gladly pray for any members who are sick, whether at home or in the hospital, at our Sunday Masses; however, it is necessary for the family to request it. THE SACRAMENTAL LIFE OF OUR CHURCH THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY is celebrated by the Pastor or one of our deacons. Weddings may be scheduled on Friday evening, Saturday, or Sunday afternoon. Only a ceremony is permitted on Sunday. The pastor will confirm the date so couples should contact the Parish Center at least ONE YEAR in advance. All the necessary information will be sent to you. The attendance at Pre-Cana or an Engaged Encounter Weekend is required. One must be a registered member of the parish. Our parish upholds the Gospel values and the Church s teachings regarding the sacredness of marriage and those couples choosing to live together in contradiction of those values, will receive a simple ceremony and all Diocesan regulations followed. October 14th $23, Counting Team # 11 October 28th Columbiettes/Kathy Michalski MEDITATION FOR OCTOBER 21st, 2018 Through His suffering, Jesus justifies many and sympathizes with us in our weaknesses. The coming of the kingdom has renewed all creation. Its fulfillment in Christ will bring complete renewal and hope. Even the difficult issue of suffering is changed. No longer without meaning or purpose, it has become an opportunity to serve and to be intimately joined to Christ, the Suffering Servant. The prophet Isaiah foretells the burden to be borne by the Suffering Servant, and how through that suffering the world would find redemption. The writer of Hebrews reminds us that Christ, in sharing our human condition, truly understands our struggles and temptations. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches us that discipleship and suffering are intimately related.

6 FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 2 ND FEAST OF ALL SOULS ALL SOULS NOVENA: Remember Your Beloved Dead Beginning on Friday, November 2nd, we will offer a Novena of Masses (9) for the repose of all our beloved dead. A special envelope dated November 2nd, has been included with your offertory envelopes for the weekend of October 27/28. There are additional envelopes in the Gathering Area for parishioners who do not have them. Please place your All Souls Envelope in the regular collection the weekend of October 27/28 (there will be no special collection). The envelopes will be placed on the Altar for the duration of the Novena. ALL SOULS MEMORIAL POSTERS On November 2 nd the Church celebrates the Feast of All Souls, where we pray for all our beloved dead. Early in October you will find Memorial Posters in the Gathering Area for those who wish to decorate them with pictures/prayer cards of those in your family who have died. You are asked to put your family name on the top portion of the poster. The posters should be returned to the Parish Center by Monday, October 29th, MASS OF REMEMBRANCE SPECIAL MASS TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO DIED THIS PAST YEAR This year our Parish will celebrate All Souls Day at a 7 PM Mass of Remembrance on Friday, November 2nd, 2018 and we will remember those who were buried from our Church over the past year. There will be a special meditation after the homily when we lift up in prayer each person who was buried from our Church since last All Souls Day. It is a very moving moment in the Mass and it is our hope and prayer that it becomes a form of healing and comfort for those who have suffered the loss. The families are encouraged to give us a picture of their loved ones so we can place them before the Altar of Sacrifice. Everyone is invited to attend this Mass. I am aware of parishioners who buried a loved one from another Church over the past year, and I would like to extend an invitation to them to participate in this Mass. Please call the Parish Center and speak to Liz. If you would like to supply a picture, please bring it to the Parish Center by Monday, October 29th, with your name and telephone number on the back of it. All Souls Day is an important day to remember and pray for the dead. Please join us for the 7 PM Mass on Friday, November 2nd. PARENTS WHO HAVE SUFFERED THE LOSS OF A CHILD At the special remembrance Mass at 7 PM on Friday November 2nd as we pray for those who were buried over the past year, we will also include a special remembrance for children who have died (no matter what the age) and they need not have been buried from St. Augustine s. The parents or a member of the family will present a rose for those children who are now with the Lord. If any parent who suffered the loss of a child would like to have their child remembered at this Mass, contact the Parish Center. We pray this special remembrance will bring the parents and their families a sense of peace and comfort.

8 MISSION SUNDAY PARISH OF SAINT AUGUSTINE OF CANTERBURY TO ADOPT SISTER PARISH MARY, MOTHER OF MERCY, MONGOLIA LETTER FROM FATHER GIORGIO MARENGO, PASTOR CONSOLATA FATHER Dear Reverend Father Bob, With great pleasure I ve received the proposal of Archbishop Alfred Xuereb, Papal Nuncio to South Korea and Mongolia, to come in contact with you. First of all let me express my deepest gratitude for being open to what God would show us along the way of fraternity and communion among our respective parishes. The reality of which you got a glimpse through our dear Nuncio is very special. Our parish was officially established in 2012 by the late Bishop Wenceslao Padilla, whom we are still mourning after his sudden death may he rest in peace. It was his desire to show particular attention and care to a very small community that came in existence only in recent years, formed by a few adults who welcomed Christ into their life. The Church had never been present here until in 2006 when a group of Consolata Missionaries (including me) settled in Arvaiheet, after having spent three years in Ulaanbaatar to study the language and get acquainted with the local customs. It wasn t easy at all to get accepted locally, because despite the freedom of religion ratified by the new Constitution, there was and there still is great suspicion towards religious groups, after the humiliating experience of Communism and in a context of widespread Tibetan Buddhism. So we had the privilege of experiencing some of what must have been the usual experience of Bishop Padilla when he first arrived in Mongolia in 1992, immediately after the fall of the Communist Regime and the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Holy See. The presence of ours is in fact the first and only one in rural areas outside Ulaanbaatar. God s grace is always amazing and it allows us to let His Divine Mercy touch the heart of these people. Today our parochial register counts 44 baptized members, including two who are already in heaven and five who now live in Ulaanbaatar. This number corresponds to 3.3% of the total Catholic population in Mongolia, that numbers around 1,300 baptized members (out of 3 million of the Mongolian citizens). Our Church is a traditional Mongolian ger, the felt tent used as home by the majority of Mongolians. Much of our effort is oriented to help people getting to know the Good News and accompanying those who have somehow decided to follow Christ in their life, especially through daily prayer (Holy Mass, Rosary, Eucharistic adoration) and catechesis. But our concern is also for the many acts of charity that this reality requires, in terms of care for the children, the poor and the afflicted. We run a daily care center for kids ages 2 5, and after-class program for school pupils, a sewing project for unemployed women and a public shows program. We do all this only relying on God s Divine Providence. Our Sunday Mass collection rarely reaches the equivalent of 3 US dollars. Perhaps through the invitation of Archbishop Xuereb your parish could consider to send us a monthly donation as a concrete sign of solidarity with this remote and poorest parish in Mongolia. You would be sending your donation through the Apostolic Nunciature. But sending us a donation would be only one aspect of our twinning project that would include prayer and information sharing. Why don t you consider a visit to our parish next summer, when Mongolian nature turns so beautiful and welcoming, after the long and severe winter? You and your collaborators would be warmly welcomed in our guest house at the parish compound. Dear Father Bob, thanks again for this opportunity to share with you some of the missionary work in the land of Chinggis Khaan. Please remember us in your prayer as we face many difficulties in the mission received by the Church. 9 Archbishop Xuereb on his pastoral visit to the parish of Mary, Mother of Mercy, upon his arrival makes a visit to the Blessed Sacrament-Jesus is the Heart of the Church. Upon his return, Archbishop Xuereb reached out to Father Bob inviting him to twin with the parish of Mary, Mother of Mercy, the poorest parish in Mongolia. At the suggestion of Father Giorgio, the pastor and a Consolata Missionary, he asked if Saint Augustine could send a donation of $100. a month which would help the parish greatly. The donation will be done by a bank wire transfer to the Apostolic Nunciature and the Archbishop will be able to get the donation to the parish. Archbishop Xuereb s family, who are parishioners, at a family gathering recently attended by Father Bob, decided they would match to the donation of Saint Augustine for the parish of Mary, Mother of Mercy! The donations would be processed through our Outreach Ministry which now has become global!
