Be doers of the word and not hearers only James 1:22 It s easy to understand the definition of stewardship. The hard part is living it! What do you do to live God s Word? Do you share your time in prayer with God? Do you use your talent to help those in need? Are you generous with your financial resources? If not, what are you waiting for? August 26th: $22, Counting Team #5-September 9th Athletic Association-Eddie Modzelewski OUTREACH MINISTRY Be a fountain, not a drain. (Rex Hudler) All those who help the Outreach Ministry are certainly the largest fountains. (Envelopes can be found in the Gathering Area of the Church). MEDITATION FOR SEPTEMBER 2, 2018 Jesus, who is the fulfillment of God s laws and prophets, tells us how to live out God s commandments. Today, we think about the best way to live out God s commandments, passed on to us through Moses, by witnessing God s blessings and presence in our midst. We can go beyond our human traditions and rituals by washing our hearts and getting rid of evil thoughts and desires. We practice it by caring for all who are vulnerable and in need. In the first reading, Moses calls on God s people to witness God s blessings and presence in their midst by keeping His laws and commandments. In the second reading, James asks God s people to follow the Word of God and not the ways of the world. In the Gospel, Jesus warns the Pharisees, scribes and the crowd not to simply observe human tradition and rituals. Rather, they need to look into their hearts and clean out evil thoughts. As Summer is ending and Fall is on its way, the kids are back in school and before the holidays are upon us, what could be better than to take the opportunity to spend some time for yourself on Retreat at the Jersey shore. This year, the retreat will be Friday evening, September 28 to Sunday afternoon, September 30 at St. Joseph s by the Sea in Mantoloking, NJ, a beautiful house on the beach run by the Religious Teachers Filippini, which is fully air-conditioned, featuring private rooms with full bath accommodations between rooms. Join us with Mary Lehmann, Facilitator, on an introductory, nothing strenuous, no yoga experience necessary retreat which may be done in your chair if necessary. She adds If you want to participate in a session or two, or just spend the weekend in your robe and slippers and be pampered, have a room to yourself, read a book, walk the beach, enjoy meals prepared for you and just BE. There is no need to DO. We are human beings, not human doings. The yoga sessions are easy and some can be done sitting in a chair. We do sun salute in the morning but some just like to sit and watch and just listen. The Spirit of God is asking amazing women to gather in this beautiful, peaceful setting to find out how they can transition, just as the seasons transition, in the colorful, whimsical, loving flow of Life. Come to experience the freedom and Peace Jesus had in mind. Come to be yourself. Mass & prayer time will be part of the weekend. Check-in at the retreat house may start at 4:30 pm and the first gathering will be at 8:00 pm. Cost is $245 for the whole weekend, which includes Saturday and Sunday meals. Space is still available, so reserve your space soon by e mail to: Nan at nanmark77@aol.com or Liz at ldeluca@staugustinenj.org. or calling Liz DeLuca at the Parish Office (732) All women are welcome, parishioners and non-parishioners, so bring a friend along. Come away with us, experience the beauty of the shore and the serenity of the sea and refresh your spirit.
