3 PASTOR S NOTE EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD First Reading: Acts 10:34a, Today s Easter message is taken from Pope Francis: simple words from a man whose beautiful simplicity has electrified the world. Blessings to you and your families on this most beautiful of days. Happy Easter in the Risen Jesus, Fr. Hugh, OP and the Dominican Friars Let the risen Jesus enter your life, welcome him as a friend, with trust: he is life! If you till now have kept him at a distance, step forward. He will receive you with open arms. If you have been indifferent, take a risk: you won t be disappointed. If following him seems difficult, don t be afraid, trust him, be confident that he is close to you, he is with you and he will give you the peace you are looking for and the strength to live as he would have you do. Jesus was crucified, and then he rose up and was seen by his chosen witnesses. Peter also mentions the importance of all the disciples bearing witness to what they saw, so that many people would believe in Jesus, and have their sins forgiven through him. Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4 Paul asserts that we must pay attention to higher realms rather than earthly concerns. Our life is not yet completely known to us, until Christ appears and we are raised to glory in him. Gospel: John 20:1-9 When Mary Magdalene discovered Jesus' tomb was open, she told Simon Peter and another disciple. They ran to the tomb and Peter went inside. He found the burial wrappings on the ground, with the head covering separate from the rest. The other disciple came in and they believed what they saw, although until then they had not understood the Scripture's message of Jesus' resurrection. The Music Ministry of Holy Innocents thanks you for your participation in the music for Holy Week We hope that you found the music we prepared a meaningful accompaniment to each liturgy. The Easter season welcomes the return of the sung Gloria, and the Alleluia as our Gospel Acclamation. The Gloria we are now using is from the Mass of Renewal by Curtis Stephan, and can be found as #866 in the hymnal. The Gospel Acclamation is from the Mass of Glory by Bob Hurd and Ken Canedo, and it is #890. We again thank you for your participation and wish you a very Happy Easter! As Pope John Paul II said: we are the Easter people and Hallelujah is our song! PARISH COUNCIL The Parish Council of Holy Innocents is comprised of dedicated parishioners willing to share their individual talents to serve the parish. The council works with the pastor and parish staff in an advisory capacity to support and enhance the life of the parish. Each year, new members are added to the council via a selection process. This year the council is hoping to add six new members to serve for a term of three years. Nominating petitions are available in the narthex, parish hall and at Our Lady of Pompeii during the month of March. At this time, please give prayerful consideration to volunteering as a member of the Parish Council. Pre-registration is required. Place contact the parish office for registration. The closing date to register for Mass is Tuesday, May 24, The event is sponsored by the Family Life Respect Office of the Archdiocese of New York. SUNDAY COFFEE You can play a vital role in helping us continue the Sunday Coffee program. It is really simple; pick a date you are available to set-up the coffee services for the 9am, 11am or both. PJ Collins started the volunteer organization, 10,000 PBJ s and their mission is to feed NYC s Homeless. Can you help? Collection baskets are set-up in the social hall for donations of peanut butter, jelly, Hershey Kisses and NEW socks.
