3 MARCH 27, EASTER SUNDAY OF THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD First Reading: Acts 10:34a, Peter discusses Jesus' life of preaching and healing. Jesus was crucified, and then he rose up and was seen by his chosen witnesses. Peter also mentions the importance of all the disciples bearing witness to what they saw, so that many people would believe in Jesus, and have their sins forgiven through him. Second Reading: Colossians 3:1-4 Paul asserts that we must pay attention to higher realms rather than earthly concerns. Our life is not yet completely known to us, until Christ appears and we are raised to glory in him. Gospel: John 20:1-9 When Mary Magdalene discovered Jesus' tomb was open, she told Simon Peter and another disciple. They ran to the tomb and Peter went inside. He found the burial wrappings on the ground, with the head covering separate from the rest. The other disciple came in and they believed what they saw, although until then they had not understood the Scripture's message of Jesus' resurrection. WEEKLY COLLECTIONS - Thank You! A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS: HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly Easter Sunday of the Passion of the Lord March 27, 2016 They found the stone rolled back from the tomb; but when they entered the tomb they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. While they were still at a loss what to think of this, two men in dazzling garments appeared beside them. Terrified, the women bowed to the ground. The men said to them: Why do you search for the living among the dead. He is not here, he has been raised up On their return from the tomb, they told all these things to the Eleven and the others. It is our faith in the Risen Lord which gathers us today. The greatest miracle of Jesus summons us to say I believe. Others might ask of us why do you search for Jesus today? Do you really believe He is alive? It is our Easter faith, which prompts us to be filled with joy and happiness. It is our faith in Christ among us, which strengthens and supports us. Our search today is to discover the living Christ among us. Pope Francis has told us Jesus Christ is the face of the Father s mercy Mercy has become living and visible in Jesus of Nazareth. Not unlike the women, we are believers and bring the good news of the Risen Christ to others. It is this Easter faith which brings healing and hope. It is this faith which gives meaning to our lives. We proclaim the great Easter cry Alleluia.

Is This The Face of Jesus? The Shroud of Turin Maryknoll invites you and your family to learn more about the history and science of the Shroud of Turin. Brother John Blazo has arranged for the organization Shroud Talks to feature a free presentation about the Shroud on Sunday, April 3, 2016 from 2:30pm 4:00pm at the Maryknoll Mission Center. Full-size replicas of the Shroud are part of the presentation along with the research negatives taken more than 30 years ago that started the renewed interest in the Shroud. Shroud Talks was established by Bill Wingard several years ago to present the history and science of the Shroud of Turin and tackle its biggest mystery. Is the Shroud the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ? Bill s research for 20 years allows him to share with audiences a dynamic presentation that has increased interest in what Pope St. John Paul II termed the most splendid relic of the Passion and the Resurrection. Bill s research, coupled with the knowledge and assistance of Barrie Schwortz, the original photographer for the 1978 scientific evaluation, delivers a comprehensive presentation about the history of the Shroud of Turin. Full-size replicas of the Shroud are part of the presentation along with the negatives that started the renewed interest in the Shroud. The Rectory will be CLOSED on Monday, March 28 for the Easter holiday. It will reopen on Tuesday at 9:30am.

5 In anticipation of Divine Mercy Sunday, The Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Center for Thought and Culture -- the Archdiocese of New York's new arts venue located at 18 Bleecker Street -- will be hosting a special screening of the documentary film "The Original Image of Divine Mercy," on Thursday, March 31 at 7PM. The screening will be followed by a conversation with the filmmaker. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at or by calling Use the code ARCH and get a 20% discount. ST. STANISLAUS KOSTKA COFFEE HOUR takes place every Sunday after the 9:00 AM Family Mass. The St. Stanislaus Kostka Society welcomes all parishioners to join them. In his recent creation care encyclical, Pope Francis extends the pioneering work of the Second Vatican Council by drawing on the wisdom of other world religious leaders, for example, the Eastern Orthodox Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. May Catholics everywhere join with members of the other world religions to demand an end to the destruction of our common home and of our impoverished brothers and sisters. Pope Francis encyclical was well received by leaders and followers of other faiths. Find out if there are other faith groups in your neighborhood or town with whom you might collaborate on a common project to better the local environment with a Care of Creation Committee.
