3 MAY 13, 2012 JUNE ~ 6TH 3, SUNDAY MOST OF EASTER HOLY TRINITY ~ MOTHER S DAY Dear Sisters and Brothers, As you know, on May 8 th I received a letter from the Diocese informing me that Father Edmund is being transferred from Saint Ann s Parish to Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Piscataway, effective on June 12 th. When Father Edmund and I discussed how we would announce his move, we had planned to make the announcement to you on Pentecost weekend. Unknown to us, the list of changes was printed in the Catholic Spirit, and the word got out before we could tell you. We are profoundly sorry that this occurred. As I explained at the Masses last weekend, a newly ordained priest must have at least two assignments of three years each before becoming eligible to become a pastor. Father Edmund s three years here at Saint Ann s, his first assignment as a priest, has well prepared him for his next assignment. All of us with whom he has interacted, have helped to bring out in him the great priestly virtues he shows his prayerfulness, his ability to preach well, his care for the sick, and his happy personality. He has shared many of his gifts with us, touching many lives---especially the children in our school and in the sacramental programs. His preparation for the celebration of Mass and his homilies are outstanding and thought provoking. We will all surely miss him. I know that I will miss a good friend--his wise counsel and the wonderful things he has done for all of us. He knows that he is most welcome at Saint Ann s any time, and I have invited him to come back often. Even though he jokes about his short stature, his departure from our parish will leave big shoes to be filled by the newly ordained priest who has been assigned us. He is Father James DiFillipps who was ordained on Saturday. He will come to us on the 12 th of June, just in time for the Festa. I asked you to consider joining me in thanking Father Edmund, as he celebrates his last weekend Mass with us on June 10 th at 12 pm. At the end of that Mass, Father will lead our annual Corpus Christi procession. After the procession, at 3 pm, all of you were invited to a reception and meal in the cafeteria. Now to this week s Feast. As young math students, one of the first lessons we learned was that one plus one equals two. But mathematics in God's Kingdom is a little different than here on earth. If you were to ask God, He would no doubt say that one plus one equals one; or better yet, one plus one plus one equals one. How else to explain the mystery that we celebrate today, that ours is one God, with three distinct persons Father, Son and Holy Spirit? It may chagrin math teachers everywhere, but God defies our human logic by remaining one God. There is no separation, no Thoughts For The Week division among the Persons of the Trinity. Rather, the three constitute a community of mutual, life-giving relationship. While we cannot fully understand the love of the Trinity, we can see in it a model of how we are to love others, seeking to be united in our pursuit of what is good and holy. As we reflect upon salvation history, we can see the great blessings that the love of the Trinity has manifested in the lives of God's people. What a blessing it is that God the Father so loved humanity that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to come into the world. As Jesus revealed to us the Father's love, and taught us how to live as God's children, He also gave us the Holy Spirit to be with us until the end of time. While we acknowledge the great blessings we receive through the Trinity, we also recognize that the Trinity presents a powerful challenge to us. After all, the blessings we receive through the love of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit are not for us to keep to ourselves. Rather, they are meant to be shared as we endeavor to pattern our lives after the Trinity and work to build inclusive, mutual and life-giving relationships with others. This includes family members, relatives, friends and even those we do not know but who are, nonetheless, our neighbors. This challenge is presented clearly to us in today's Gospel. Jesus commissions His Apostles to go out to all the nations and spread the good news of salvation. As people of faith, we know that Jesus wants all of us to take up this task of sharing the Gospel with others. Today we receive, as it were, our marching orders to go and make disciples of all nations, leaving no doubt that by its very nature, our Church is missionary to the core! And the way we fulfill our missionary mandate is by patterning our lives on the Trinity, striving to live in communion with God and others. When counting plates or pencils, one plus one plus one equals three. When it comes to our lives as disciples of the Lord Jesus, however, we must think differently. Let us never forget the unity to which we are called, both with the Triune God and with one another. Let us remember that in the Kingdom of God, one plus one plus one equals one and that One is God. Let us continually pray for Father s intentions, and thank God for the gift Father Edmund has been to us. Let us thank God that Father Edmund accepted the call to become a priest. May he have many happy and fruitful years in ministry. In your charity, pray for the sick and the lonely visit them if you can. Also, please remember to pray for all who have wandered from the faith, and all who have died. May God always be pleased with us! Monsignor Michael Ministry Highlight ~ Parish Nursing Ministry Irene Roglieri Parish Nursing is an opportunity for nurses of the parish, as well as other health providers and volunteers, to focus on the spiritual, emotional and physical dimensions of parishioners as they strive to achieve wellness and manage illness. We do this through education, advocacy, support groups and home visits. All are invited to volunteer their special gifts. From time to time St. Ann Parish also sponsors Diocesan workshops on topics dealing with various aspects of family life. The Parish Nursing Ministry holds a Flu Shot Clinic in the fall, sponsored by the Somerset Valley Visiting Nurses Association. This clinic is held on a weekend after Masses, making it especially easy for working people to get a flu shot.

Baptisms: Baptisms are celebrated each month on the First Sunday at the Noon Mass as well as the second, third, and fourth Sundays at 1:30pm. There are no baptisms during Lent. Arrangements must be made in advance and new parents are required to take a Baptism Preparation class held on the second Saturday of each month at 10:00am with Deacon Conrad in the CMR. Please call to register at Sponsors & Godparents: If you are 18 years or older, you must register as an adult and be Confirmed in the Catholic Church. If you are married, your marriage must be recognized by the Church. This is especially important if you wish to be a Sponsor for Confirmation or Godparent. It takes 6 months of attending Mass to be eligible for both of these privileges. Marriages: The common policy of marriage requires that arrangements be made at least One Year before the date of marriage and before any social plans are made. Either the bride or groom must be a registered parishioner. Weddings Masses / Ceremony may be scheduled on Friday afternoon, Saturday morning or afternoon; Sunday afternoon ceremony only. There are different kinds of spiritual gifts but the same Spirit; there are different forms of service but the same Lord; there are different workings but the same God who produces all of them in everyone. 1 CORINTHIANS 12:4-6 By giving each of us different gifts, God made sure that the Church would have the combination of talent and treasure that was needed to do God s work. However, what happens if one of us does not bring our contribution to God s altar? God s plan is not fulfilled. Some important work is left undone. DEACON RECRUITING IS NOW UNDERWAY The Diocese is looking for men who are interested in becoming Permanent Deacons. A new diaconate formation class will begin in September A General Information meeting is being conducted at the St. John Neumann Pastoral Center in Piscataway on Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at 6:30pm. On Monday, June 4th at 10 a.m., the 8th Grade students will have an Award Assembly in the school cafeteria. A picnic for the 8th Grade will take place following the Assembly. On Tuesday, June 5th at 9 a.m., the Pre-Kindergarten class will have a closing program in the school cafeteria. At 6:30 p.m., the 7th Grade parents will meet in the 8th Grade classroom to discuss the undertakings and projects that will be a part of their children's activities in the new school year. On Wednesday, June 6th at 12:45 p.m., the 8th Grade Graduates will enjoy a luncheon with their Priests, Sisters and Teachers in the school cafeteria. At 7 p.m. the Graduates will attend Holy Mass. After the Mass, they will have a Graduation Ceremony in St. Ann Church. On Thursday, June 7th at 9 a.m., the Kindergarten class will have a closing program in the school cafeteria. Their meeting with the First Grade teacher will already have taken place on Monday, June 4th. On Friday, June 8th, the new Kindergarten Class for will be invited to the Kindergarten Classroom from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. During this time, Parents of the new Kindergarten children will have time for additional information about Kindergarten procedures and they will also have time to become acquainted with one another. We wish the present Pre-K and Kindergarten children a happy summer and look forward to their return in September. We congratulate our 8th Grade Graduates and wish them well as they enter the High Schools of their choice.
