1 June 2015 Vol. 48 No. 6 The Great Bend Christian Welcome to WOW! To be the church that God is calling us to be, a space needed to be created and a curriculum used that would really connect with our kids on their level in an exciting way. This has been accomplished through the renovation of the children s wing and the implementation of the rotation model. Pastor Sue and Dena Hiss, along with many volunteers, have worked hard on restructuring the entire children's programming from babies to 6th grade. This included building construction, purchasing new furniture, implementing a rotation model style curriculum, and hiring Worlds of Wow out of Texas to give the children's wing a big impact in decor. As a result the hallways have come alive as the animals curiously pop their heads out of Noah's Ark on one side. On the other side a soothing coral and blue sunset over water brings life to the once bare white walls of the children's wing. Upon entering the preschool room, you encounter the inside of Noah's ark, lodging life-size elephants, dairy cows, hippos, a moose and small roaming creatures which creates a whole new world for our preschoolers. In the music and Bible skills room you are overcome by a bright music factory with bubbly words stating peace, love, and joy to help facilitate the minds and imagination of our kids. Enter the story telling/movie room and you will find you're going back in time by walking into a bedouin tent. And last but not least, upon opening the door to the nursery, you are overcome with scenes from "Jonah and the Whale", which includes brightly colored octopus, dolphins, schools of fish, and sea foliage swimming on the walls. The rotation model curriculum will submerge the children in the Bible through hands on experience instead of just information. Each Sunday they will be transported to different themed rooms such as science laboratory, cooking, games, art, musical movement, Bible skills, storytelling, and movie theater helping them to enjoy and examine the power of the Gospel in life changing ways.

4 Thanks so much to Pastor Josh for his phone calls and visits to Hays Hospital when we both were there. Also a big thank you to Glen and Dixie Hughes and Bill and Lois Johnson for the taxi service to and from Hays. We also want to thank our Church Family for all of your prayers and support as we recover. May God bless each and every one of you! Thanks again, Ted and Susan Brown The family of Debbie Berkley would like to thank all of our church family for all kinds of service they have given us before and after Debbie s death. No words can describe the kind acts, comforting prayers, calls, cards, food, and many rides. I m sure she lived longer than expected because of all the prayers and blessings bestowed upon her daily. Special thanks to Rev. Josh Leu who was an exceptional comforter, daily supporter, for the whole family here and in Washington State. He also led the group to bring Debbie home from Washington State when she became ill while visiting her daughter, grandson and the ocean for the last time. May God bless you all. Your love and prayers help so much. Doris Berkley, Jennifer, Shawn & Mason Zupfer, Terri Rous Darren Rous Sarah & Steven DeWhitt Church Family, Thank you so much for my goodie box! I feel so blessed that I have such a loving church family praying for me! Nicole Reiter Thank you for your help with donations for the college boxes. We sent out 11 boxes this year.
5 Getting More Connected To help us as the First Christian Church of Great Bend get more connected in the information age to better communicate with all who are a part of this incredible congregation, we are going to be installing a new program called One Call Now. This new program will allow us to either communicate directly with the whole church, or the various groups in our church in a much simpler and efficient way. For instance, if there is ever a reason that we have to cancel church or Wednesday Night Dinner because of bad weather, this program will allow us to send out one message that will then be delivered directly and immediately to you through whatever form of communication you choose (ie text, phone message, or via .) We will be using it, also, to send reminders about the various events that take place at the church, committee and board meetings, and to keep our parents informed of all of the youth and children s activities. All we need from you as an individual (one form per person, please) is to fill out the One Call Now Questionnaire. To make this easy for you, we will have these questionnaires available for you in the bulletin every week for the next month, which you can fill out during church and drop it in the offering plate. If you have , we will be sending you a link to a form on-line. We will be putting this link up on our Facebook and website. On June 21st we are going to be starting a new sermons series called "At the Movies." During this sermon series we will be using some of the most powerful films of our day to help open us up more fully to the power of the Biblical message. For instance, we will be wrestling with the idea of turning the other cheek with some help from the movie "42" the Jackie Robinson story, facing the reality of life and death with some help from the movie "Bucket List," and trying to wrap our brain around the infinity of God though the movie "Bruce Almighty". Make sure you put it on your calendar because it is a series you don't want to miss! Sunday June 21, 2015
6 6th-8th Grades SUMMERTIME 9th-12th Grades CYF and CHI RHO will continue to meet on Sundays during the Summer Break. CHI RHO (including our 5th grade graduates) meets from 5:00-7:00 pm. CYF joins CHI RHO for fun group games at 6:00 pm and then have their own time 7:00-8:00 pm. We plan to do a lot of fun activities, so check the Sunday bulletin, fccgbk.com, or the facebook page for the current week s info! AND WILL NOT BE MEETING DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS. Words cannot express the depth of gratitude for the transformation of our Children s Wing! Hundreds of volunteer hours went into the project beginning with the concept last summer by the Christian Education Committee; to the monetary donations; to specific design planning, contracting, and implementation November thru April.; to the volunteers who helped prep and paint the rooms and hallway; to the volunteers who helped artist, Michael O Connor, working on site the first part of May; and to the volunteers who helped with the clean-up after and getting the rooms ready for the new rotation workshop model. So many of you helped in some way, it would be impossible to name all of you without missing someone. There is one person, however, to lift up by name. Dena Hiss has taken this dream from the beginning to its conclusion; a year s worth of time and effort. It was her passion and commitment that was always at the front leading and encouraging the rest of us to keep-up. This truly was a whole church effort and if you want to see and hear the results, just come by the Children s wing on Sunday morning between 9 and 10. May God bless our children and continue to grow their faith in all ways. Jesus is the Real Super Hero! Get ready for a super packed super hero week! Online registration begins soon. Watch for more details. If you have helped with VBS in the past and have not been contacted, please let Pastor Sue know! PLEASE PRAY FOR THESE CAMPERS IN JUNE: June 3-4 Rachel McReynolds June Jacob Colglazier, Pastor Sue June Lilly Morrison
