1 First District News O h i o C h r i s t i a n U n i o n N o v e m b e r U n i o n B e n to n v i l l e C. U. The Kings Daughters Class will meet on November 1st at the Winery for lunch. The lesson will be on the disciple James. Satisfied will be singing after Sunday School on November 11th. Everyone welcome. Our annual turkey give-away will be on Sunday, November 18th, after church services. It will be held at the Bentonville School Parking Lot. Our church collected 36 bags of rice for the Manchester Community Care Center. Our Rally Round the Residents at Kenton Pointe was enjoyed by everyone. The residents enjoyed receiving the treats that the children gave them. There were 26 from our church there and we all had a good time. Veterans Day is November 11th. We thank all the Veterans for the service they gave our country. Because of their service we have the freedom to worship as we want. Our blessings and thanks to each one of them. We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving on November 22nd. We have so many things to be thankful for. "But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:57 Our prayers go to the many who are unable to come to church because of illness. 2 W e s t U n i o n C. U. The Singles and Doubles Sunday School Class raised $1163 at their annual Coats for Kids auction which was held on October 6th. They thank everyone who attended the auction or participated in any way. If you have any questions call Angela Horvath at The first Youth Rally Quiz of the season was held at the Adams County Christian School on October 14th. They are happy to report that we placed third in the Junior Sword Drills and third in the Junior Quiz. The next quiz will be on November 11th. Thanks to everyone for their prayers and support. Thanks to Mary Kimberly and Velma Vogler for being our delegates to the First District Council held at Cornerstone Christian Union on October 20th. We had a Pastor Appreciation dinner for Pastor Lee and his family after morning worship service on October 21st. They were also presented a gift of appreciation. Our condolences to Geneva Brozee in the death of her sister, Mary Copas, who passed away on October 21st. Our condolences to the family of Jackie DeMint who passed away on October 23rd. He was the son of Jack and Anna Lou DeMint. NOVEMBER ANNIVERSARIES Adam & Rachel Grooms 11/11 We had Trick or Treat in the Fellowship Hall on Friday evening, October 26th. Hot chocolate and cookies were served and candy was passed out to the children. Pastor Lee reported that even though the electric was off for most of the time they were able to talk to and witness to a lot of children and adults. Thanks to the volunteers who helped and to those who donated the treats. Pray for the seeds that were sown. If weather permits Corbett Phipps will take those who want to go on his annual Leaf Tour of Adams County next Sunday afternoon, November 4th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. 3 H i l l s C h a p e l Tis the season! Hold on, its not Christmas yet. This is November and November is the season to be thankful. In Luke 17 you will find the well know event where Jesus healed the ten lepers. I am guessing most of you know the story with a fair amount of accuracy. If you are like me, there is a good chance that you have even adopted somewhat of a judgmental attitude toward the nine who didn t return. What were they thinking? If you have never had those thoughts kudos to you and I would ask that you pray for me. Not only did these men have a debilitating disease, they had to face their sickness alone, because leprosy forced them to be separated from both their friends and family. As I thought about this event and their lack of gratitude, I began to consider a disease that all of us have. The disease of sin and a prognosis of death. We all have suffered at the hand of a disease that steals our joy, robs us of hope, removes any sense of peace and separates us from God. It doesn t take a great deal of effort to remember the depravity I experienced until like these 10 men, I met Jesus. While I knew a change had occurred, it was only over time I began to understand the depth of that change. Like the nine who continued on their way, I too have been guilty of not returning to the feet of Jesus. Why? I am not completely sure, and I could make all kinds of excuses, but somehow all of the things I would say lead back to a serious lack of gratitude. Over time, I think it is our nature to somehow see the work done in us as primarily beneficial to the Kingdom, our praise as something that God thrives in, and our efforts as something that God needs. I encourage you to just take a moment today and remember the depravity of your past and consider the blessing of your current place in life. Maybe like me and the nine healed lepers you find yourself with places to go and people to see. You recognize the difference God has made in your life, but for some reason you just don t have time to tell Him thank you. Will you take time today? Will you forget about all the ministry you do, the expectations you and others place on you and take a moment to return to the feet of Jesus and say THANK YOU? My guess is it will be the highlight of your day and every other day you choose to do it for the rest of your life.

The Meeting of the West Union Helping Hands will be held on Thursday morning, November 8 th in the Fellowship Hall at 10:00. The Bible Lesson will be by Thelma Knechtly. After our meeting, we will be having a meal at 11:30. Thanks to each one that attended Our Annual Soup Supper and Auction on Friday night, October 26 th, for the three Missionary Families that we support monthly,. Although the electric was out for most of the auction, just about everyone stayed, and seemed to enjoy themselves. We set candles, flashlights, etc. on the tables so we could see a little bit. The Mission Outreach Committee is looking for members who would be interested in helping. Also, the 1st District Program Committee is looking for members. Joe Cunningham provided information on the Ecuador Projects. All of the kids did a great job at the Rally on the 14th. The team of Ryan Mack, Bella Dettwiller and Brady Dettwiller placed 3rd in Jr. Quiz and 3rd in Jr. Sword Drills. Congratulations to them! The next Rally will be November 11th at 2:00 at Adams Co. Christian School. It will soon be time for Operation Christmas Child Shoebox collection. We having been collecting different items each month all year and will be packing our boxes soon. We are excited to see how many boxes and blessings we will be able to share. Also, if you are packing boxes as a church or a group, you can go to and register your church to receive free tickets to Newport Aquarium. HE IS GOOD! There are many still on our prayer list who are sick and in need. We are remembering: Grace Young, Martha Ralston, Fred McCarty, Wanda McCarty, Dorothy McCarty, Loretta Porter, Patsy Roberts, Phyllis Spires, Ruth Brown, Millie Hayslip, Mary Lou Grooms, Roger Trefz, Eric & Jo Ann Morgan, Tommy & Jackie Brown, Frances Ward, the Seas family, the family of Shirley Unger, among many others. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. May our prayers be effectual and fervent enough, and may we be righteous enough for them to avail. We had a really great Annual Fall Fun Day on October 6th. We beared through a few pop-up showers and had wonderful summer-like temperatures for the day. We were blessed with 16 young children, 5 teen helpers, and several adults. Our theme was Seas Jesus and Rechaaaarg Your Faith. And, everyone seemed to have an AHOYable time.
